I wouldn't really know how that Pavillion is, because even though the restaurant accepted my reservation in Opentable for a dinner on 21 October, and even sent me a reminder on the morning on the 21st, we arrived in the evening to find out that the place had closed for the season on 15 October.
I showed up and it was shut down for the season. Extremely disappointed that OpenTable did not know it was closed and had allowed me to book through them. Was very embarrassing to arrive with my out of town clients to find no sign of a restaurant.
I arrived a few minutes early for my 2pm Sunday reservation (my party had already arrived and was seated) only to be greeted by two lackluster individuals who were guarding the front entrance and seemed that they didn't want me to enter the restaurant as they were perplexed that I had a 2pm reservation?? To make matters worse, 5 minutes after being seated, I was told that the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes and we needed to put in our orders now (please note, on Open Table, the last reservation listed was at 3:30pm!). We were told this was their last day of operation. Regardless, if the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes, then why did they have an option for a 2pm reservation!! It gets worse... the wait staff took away our salt/pepper shakers as well as sugar bowl and we hadn't had our meal served to us yet!! There were other filled tables where their food was in the process of being served or were waiting for their meals and their condiments were still on the table!!?? Once we were served, never once did our waiter come by to ask how our meal was or how we were doing. I was really excited to try to restaurant but they greatly disappointed me. I might give them a 2nd chance next Spring when they re-open but it would take a lot for me to reconsider.
Toilet were very dirty, the waiter didn’t know the menu. Bad service, they made two mistakes. Food was ok, not worth the price. I liked the fact that it’s an outside dining but there was a bad smell. Sorry but I cannot really recommend it.
The restaurant was very underwhelming. I was excited to try it out, but the food selection was limited, and the flavoring was off. I ordered mussels and supposedly garlic fries. The fries were regular steak cut fries, half of the mussels were closed, and limited amount of broth, so it was dry. My friend had the maple glaze chicken, they had the sauce on the side. I would definitely not come back, nor recommend this place to anyone I know.
I was really disappointed in the whole experience. The food was awful, the service was worse and the restaurant wasn't near full. Also we were seated at tables inside the building and two of us, who wore dresses, were bitten ferociously by either fleas or bedbugs. It was horrible. Will never eat here again.
Great outdoor dinning without the traffic BUT, be prepared for minimal service. This place always struggles to provide good service. I like to go for lunch on days with the farmers market and watch the people while I wait...and wait.
I had great casual lunch & dinners
Here from Mother's Day thru aug
But end of season , they were limited to
3 kinds of cocktails , and half the menu
Not available , such as oysters & lobster rolls
Our waiter did not mention all what was
Out until taking our orders, big group of 8
So wasted a lot of time . I will chalk it up
To last week of season though.
Great spot! In the middle of the action in Union Square yet tucked away in the corner so it's quiet. The food was delicious
The service was not good. They kept making mistakes with our order and didn't seem to understand what we wanted. Very disappointed with the restaurant.
How much better can it get then sitting outside in Union Square Park enjoying good food, surrounded by an oasis of green .
This is a great-looking cafe with a Mediterranean ambiance (if you don't look too closely at anything, because it's all a little cheap and fraying at the edges, and if you overlook, say, the bizarre astro-turf on the walls outside the bathrooms). The menu is interesting and some of the dishes (the cauliflower, for example) are excellent. However, except for the well-meaning hostess, the service was terrible, with several waiters being amazingly inattentive and/or throwing attitude. The place seems kind of unhelmed, like some investors threw some money at it a long time ago and have since left it adrift. But I'd put up with all that again just to sit in one of the cafe chairs, sip a frothy cocktail and reminisce about Paris, Nice or Monaco.
Overall, had a great dining experience. Chose The Pavilion for its location and ambiance. Didn't go with high expectations for great food or service but was hopeful. So I was pleasantly surprised at the level of attention we got and the quality of food. We ended up having a lively brunch, with perfect weather (sunny and 70@) with the Farmers Market abuzz with people. I now look forward to going again for evening cocktails.
Sehr schönes Ambiente und sehr leckeres Essen. Die Aussicht auf den Markt war auch toll. Die Einrichtung und tollen Pflanzen waren wunderschön.
Huge disappointment. The food was cold, the coffee at brunch was cold. The service was absolutely terrible. Waited a long time for service when there was only one other table dining at the restaurant at the time. Then got almost no attention. Had to send food back for being cold and inedible, and when it returned 15 minutes later, it wasn't much better. Manager just sat texting and waiters just stood around talking. Do not eat at this restaurant.
We walked in and all the people who worked there ignored us. We asked a man if we should seat ourselves and we did. He didn't give us any menus and we sat there waiting for like fifteen minutes until the waitress came and then took another five to grab menus. Our drinks were so slow and our food was so slow and it took forever. Even paying the check took forever. It was horrible and not worth it. Way overpriced for the experience and small portions.
I thought the Pavilion would have checked all the boxes for my 35th birthday party, great ambiance, dining al fresco and great looking menu. Too bad all of that was squashed by the absolutely horrifying service we received! After over 30 minutes sitting at the table, we still hadn't received our first round of drinks, we patiently requested time and time again for the waitress to check in on why its taking so long and she would just say "let me check." Now if it were a busy night, I would be much more understanding but of all the tables in the restaurant about 1/3rd of them were full, so there was no excuse. She would constantly ignore us, even when she was standing right next to our table. We were even talking to the tables around us about how terrible the service had been.
I will say the food was pretty good, my shrimp was slightly over cooked, but not bad and everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had. I would never recommended anyone go here for any more that a couple of drinks at the bar. Great location, terrible service!
I did the open table reservation for our 29th anniversary. I replied to your email about the occasion thinking that you might surprise us. You did not! So I am not sure why your inquired.
The 'hummus' dip was very watery and full of sesame 'tahineh'. The so called vegetables were microscopic given the fact that you have the farmer market right next to you. My lobster roll was mediocre with a mediocre type of bread and too much 'sauce' and small pieces of lobster as if it was in a blender. However my husband's Bronzini was good, according to him. Trust me we have a very refined palate and if we say good, it is a big deal.
There was a lot of noise but we did not mind. Overall it was not that special experience.
Love this place! I work nearby so have been many times. Best outdoor seating in the city, and good food. Just went for Sunday brunch for the first time and it was great.
The food is nothing to write home about although it isn't bad. The prices are not bashful. What you're paying for is the unique and attractive setting which is well worth it. A seasonal gem.
Food is good, ambience is great, service was miserable.
Nice spot on a summer night. I had the squash spirulina with pesto and it was fantastic. Highly recommend.
Food is always good - salads are excellent and healthy- right in union square and has great vibe - good for groups of friends - lunch is great for business
I've been coming here for a couple of years now. This by far was the worst experience. Food was awful, greasy and undercooked. Drinks were ok, nothing memorable. Not worth the price! Won't come back
This place is very underrated. Experience was great from start to finish, food, service, restaurant is beautiful. The only downside is that it isn't at capacity but it refreshing for NY.
Great idea, and good food, but unpleasantly loud and chaotic.
Beautiful place to enjoy the energy and warm weather outdoors. Love the ambiance. Food was delicious.
What a gem! Only open in the summer so go before the season ends. My lunch partner and I both ordered the quinoa and arugula salad with salmon. It was perfect. They served a very generous chunk of salmon.
I have service 4 stars because our novice waiter kept forgetting things but it was really no big deal. He was trying.
Good food, nice presentation. But portions a bit small and drinks are pricy even for the neighborhood.
Brought friends from out of town. Great ambiance sitting outside in union square covered by umbrella. Hostess accommodating and server extraordinaire. We had mussels and checken sandwich ... yum ... what a ice place o have a chat with friends over lunch. Bravo...
Great food, great location but not so great customer service. Our server never checked on us. We were trying to find her for the longest and she seems upset the whole time.
This was the perfect place for lunch while out sightseeing with visitors. The atmosphere was charming and the service excellent. There were light choices on the menu for those of us cutting calories.
I had lunch here with my friend and the food was delicious.
The food was great. We got the bronzini and mussels. Both meals came out really good. The only draw back are the cocktails are pretty weak for $16 ea.
um, what a total disappointment. Honestly, I wish I had chosen a different restaurant.
Got to have the roast avocado! Really interesting menu of inventive combinations
Terrible service !!!
After the mixed reviews, surprisingly great experience.
Staff was friendly and accommodating to our changing parties' size.
Service was attentive and food was good
The setting speaks for itself
I would definitely return - food is very good - right in the union square farmers market - great for people watching
