Great food but bar was really slow!
Great staff and excellent food. Very good wine selection, too. Thanks Amritsar and Rob!
Nice, late night stop. Burger was good.
Meat-lover's dream meal. Choices were great. Brussels sprouts were seriously good. Shishito peppers and Beef fat fries were fantastic. Charcuterie options were endless and delicious. Service was good but a little scattered. Drinks were really good and creative. If I lived close-by, I'd go there daily.
Absolutely delicious dinner and drinks. I highly recommend the cavatelli which is a small plate but very generous portion.
Really liked the décor. The bar area is the best. Warmest spot, not very warm where we sat, had to get coat during dinner. All of our food came with heavy sauces, really hit bottom and didn't feel that great when left. Service was very attentive. We ordered a half of bottle of wine and it came in a very small craft, had to ask for a real half. Probably better to just order by the glass or get a bottle since the half didn't measure up.
I think this would be a great bar experience, since so warm and cozy in the bar. Good spot for a glass of wine and cheese platter! However, even the bread is heavy. Need to add something light for the cheese, the bread over powers it all. But definitely worth a try!
Unfortunately, the service here has declined with each visit. We've visited her four or five times during peak and non-peak hours. The last three times, our food arrived at the table well before our wine. Worse, when the wine did arrive, it was warm. In addition, on this particular visit, our server seemed annoyed when my wife informed her that she avoids dairy. We did appreciate the server going over the menu to ensure our choices were gluten-free, but she became short when my wife asked about dairy. Finally, while this did not bother me as much, my dining companions were bothered when someone came over after we had cashed out and chatting, and informed us that they needed the table for a large group. While we were offered another table to continue our talk, I have never been asked to move for that purpose before. Nor when I was a server (for 5+ years) had I ever witnessed such a request. In retrospect, the maniacal clearing of our table as soon as we were done with every single item made sense after the ask.
We are not difficult guests, as I used to be a server and understand the difficulty involved. This trend of service is sad because we enjoy the menu and ambiance.
I've had nothing but excellent experiences here before, but this last one was a little underwhelming. I ate Sunday brunch there and ordered the Steak and Eggs, with the meat cooked at Medium and the eggs Over Medium. The steak was definitely underdone and had to be sent back (the eggs were fine-ish). My plate when it returned--which to their credit was an entirely new cut--was better, but the new eggs were as Over Easy as they come. I'm assuming they were trying their best to get everything back out to me as soon as possible, but these two directions aren't terribly complicated. A chef worth his salt knows when meat will be too bloody and eggs will be too runny. It's probably an anomaly, but they should be careful with things like that considering their prices, which are a touch higher.
Food was good, but service was slow although we had indicated we had theater tickets and arrived on time for a 6:15 reservation with a performance at 8.
Just way too much meat and not a single salad or any vegetable that was light and not over prepared. We felt like there should be something less heavy to offset all the meat. Greens in one dish were tough and unchewable. Portion sizes for charcuterie were odd - some tiny - the pate - some a good amount - the bresaola. The cheese portion also very small and not something 4 people could even taste. The charcuterie was served without utensils. We had to use forks we had already had in our mouthes or our fingers - neither a good idea in flu season. Also the beer sampler was a fine idea until the server told us they were out of one of our choices and talked us into a beer we hated - something with pineapple -not a logical suggestion given that our other choices were stouts.
Portion sizes very hard to grasp - bowl of pasta was teeny although we were told it was entree size, the fried chicken was teeny - told the small size was enough for 3 with the other food we ordered. We were told we had enough food for 4 and all left hungry and we are not crazy overeaters. Might go back to the butcher shop because the flavors were good, but the restaurant was hard to figure out.
The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve been twice so far and have received top notch service both times. This is a great place to linger over food and conversation without feeling rushed.
We went to The Partisan for our anniversary. We loved everything about the place! The food was fantastic, the service was great, and the ambiance was nice. Will definitely go again when in the city.
The food was absolutely amazing! They had some small plate classics, each with a unique twist that made it something bold and new, but not anything too risky that would cause one to question if it would be good. The food was perfect the drink list was abundant, and the service was excellent. 10/10 will be coming back here next time I'm in DC.
Great experience. Friendly service and able to answer a ton of questions. As a non-meat eater, the server pointed out we could eat and what could be substituted. Definitely go!
Wish they had more menu options than mostly sandwiches. The dinner menu is so amazing and has some great dishes. Would love to see them for lunch!
We wanted a non pretentious date night place. This was perfect. They were accommodating when we wanted to change seats twice but it was also quiet and not busy (5pm on a Wednesday). Really enjoyed the food and our waitress was lovely.
Great place, cool bar area and the food was outstanding.
I had heard great things about Partisan so decided to check out the place. While the food was really good I was underwhelmed with the service of the front desk. There was no one present when we arrived and saw a line waiting to ask questions. The waiting staff was good and offered good recommendations. We went with our 2-year old and it didnt seem to be too much kid friendly. They didnt have a separate menu for kids.
Brunch on Sunday has a limited menu, which was still quite good. The maple butter on the triple burger was a great touch. We were sorry to find out that they do not offer any of their meat and cheese trays during the brunch meal.
Had lunch the first time and the food was great. Went back for dinner. Didn't know that there was such an extensive beer / wine list. Food was excellent. Service was good and friendly. Definitely recommend!
A busy and somewhat noisy restaurant. Luckily, the host asked the sound guys to turn down the music or we would not have been able to talk! (Thanks for the courtesy; we really appreciate it.) The food was unusual and fun. The small bites were a nice selection of cheeses, meats, and pates. And the main courses were substantial enough with a variety of choices and ingredients. The brussels sprouts had, in my opinion, too much garlic, but that just may be me! But overall the food was interesting, the service was very good, and the wine list by the glass short but good choices. Interesting cocktails and beers too. We'll be back.
Overall, a nice evening. Charcuterie was good but pricey. Most of the small plates were very good. Loved the fries, lamb, and butchers cut steak. Brisket had good flavor but was very salty. Only real complaint was the value. Small plates are small, and $14 for the tiniest pour of rose was disappointing.
Consistently good food and service. Got us out of there within an hour, per our request.
Good brunch but I wish you got a bit more bang for your buck. Great for drinks and shared plates!
Great food and the best bourbon menu I've ever seen.
My girlfriend and I were visiting DC and looking for place with good craft beer and food before a play. The Partisan delivered on all accounts. The fresh meats and cheese plate was excellent thought the cheese portions could have been a little larger. The mushroom ravioli was more like a tapas than an entree but very rich and flavorful. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful with the fresh made meats and menu options. This was great option for us and not crowded at all for pre-theater. They have an amazing bar and high end liquor options to all tastes as well as craft beers and wine.
Great ambiance. Upscale casual. Very DC.
We always enjoy the Partisan, but this last trip was even better than we remembered. The dishes we ordered were all great! I want to know the secret to how they cooked the bavette steak. The staff was really on their game, also. Love the creative cocktails and unusual beer options.
Love the charcuterie!
We spend nearly every Friday night at Partisan! We live nearby and it’s such a great spot to grab a meal. Jenna is a great server and she, honestly, is the best server we’ve had there. Our order was perfect, served quickly, and exactly as we asked for it! High praise.
The beer and the food.. and the ambiance. Always excellent!
The food was extremely salty and our waiter was horrible. Overall, the amount of $ that we paid, was not worth the quality of food that we received. I know of many other delicious restaurants in DC that I'll be going to!
I was extremely disappointed. I made reservations for a Saturday lunch (January 27th) during Restaurant Week. The Partisan website confirmed that they offered a Restaurant Week menu that we highly anticipated. After being seated and given regular menus, I asked for the Restaurant Week menu. The server informed me that management had decided not to offer the Restaurant Week menu on the last two days of the special. We were disappointed and were not offered any accommodations for our inconvenience. My brunch entrée, pancakes, were bland and mediocre at best. I felt that The Partisan was using a bait and switch technique. I felt that they should have notified all patrons who made reservations thru Open Table for Restaurant week that they were discontinuing the offer. We traveled from Northern Virginia specifically to try out Partisan since I frequently attend events at the Capital One arena.
Best presentation of Wagyu beef I have ever had. Perfection!
yummy if you eat meat. good burger, beef cheek, charcuterie, and fried chicken
We tried The Partisan for restaurant week, probably not the best time to judge a new spot, but honestly we were disappointed with the food. The Brussels sprouts were way too greasy, the pound cake was a rock, and our entrees (wagyu brisket and fried chicken) were ok at best. Service was slow, and not very friendly either.
The best part of our experience would have to be the beer list.
Authentic and cool. Great date spot, good location.
The restaurant was absolutely freezing. After asking about the temperature, we were told the restaurant would not warm up. The bar area was slightly better but not by much. The cold definitely impacted the overall dining experience.
The waitress was awesome
The food was below our expectations for the price, and having read the reviews. Portions are small - triple stack burger was actually a small double decker. Spaetzle Was tasteless.
I come here for the burger whenever I'm in town, and it's truly special- one of my top five nationwide. Could stand to be a little more welcoming, though on my last visit they did seem understaffed.
