About The Park Room
Located on the second floor of Park Lane Hotel, The Park Room invites guests to indulge not only in delicious food, but in a spectacular view of Central Park available from any seat in the restaurant. With an entire wall of large windows along the northern most side of the restaurant, The Park Room overlooks both 59th street and Central Park and offers diners a view unlike any other restaurant location in the area.
The Park Room’s new menu, offers a variety of different options ranging from soups and salads to fresh seafood as well as The Park Room’s signature dishes. Guests can indulge in appetizers such as the Pepper Crusted Calamari served with a cilantro chili sauce or start off their meal with the restaurant’s featured soup of the day, which can be served with a Grilled Brie Cheese Sandwich. For a main course, The Park Room’s signature dishes include a Wagyu Burger topped with horseradish cheddar cheese and bourbon onions.

We booked a Sunday brunch for holidays. On our arrival, there was a crowded event happening at the location despite our reservation. We failed to find a manager to discuss the situation, a guest participating the event asked us to leave. We called the reservation number, a lady informed us that all reservations moved to another place at the hotel. She was extremely unhelpful and failed to understand we wanted to eat at the specific place we booked. She did not offered any real apology. We had to find another spot for brunch last min. I say, this place does not live to any of the expectation, staff is not classy. Stay away!!
VIEW AMAZING.Ambiance wonderful.Food very good...BUT the restaurant was empty 12 in the afternoon..Maybe 20 people..At noon upon arrival..The place was a little in disarray..SERVICE BAD..CONSTANTLY asked for cooffee refills and water..The few times ive been here in the past 5 years..Its ALWAYS this way. I go for the view..Mostly..Central Park is pictiresque
Where do I begin . We went here expecting a nice holiday brunch. What they failed to mention was they cut brunch off at 11. Who ends brunch at 11 on Christmas Eve ?! Pictures were deceiving , only two sad ornament displays in the entire dining room of shabby furniture , and un-set tables. The mirrored doors were shut until our 12 o'clock reservation time when they were unceremoniously opened by a waiter who said " all right , you can all come in now " and then walked away. No one brought each group to a table , no one checked for reservations . The waiter then gave us two menus because they didn't have enough menus for our group of 4. We asked for a drink menu and we're snarled at. Most unprofessional service I have ever encountered for a $300 bill. Don't just walk away from this restaurant , RUN !
I received a confirmation for our reservation, but when we arrived there was no one around and the restaurant was empty. We had a hotel employee do some investigating and were told that the restaurant was closed due to a private event occurring later. Needless to say, we were not happy about the situation and our waste of time.
I suppose must one be suspicious of restaurants with great views. The view was a ten out of ten
and the Dining Room elegant and quiet. That's where the good news ends. We arrived on weekday at 1;30 and was immediately told that we needed to have our order in by 2:00.
The menu though not unreasonable had what I thought to be an odd selection. They had one of there specialties as vegetable ravioli. It was overcooked pasta in a soupy sauce. My guest had a pastrami sandwich that was bone dry. The service was cold and unconcerned. Fortunately the view was good along with the company. From now I will view Central Park from a different location.
A scene in the new TV show "Vinyl" was shot in the Park Room...which seems great, except that the show is set in 1973 and the producers didn't change a thing. Sarcasm aside, the place seems very, very dated. Service was not horrible, but wasn't good. And the waiter wasn't friendly at all. My food was bad, although my friend said his was okay. So there are all the negatives. Any good news? Yes...the view is amazing. I was there in winter so we could see into Central Park. I suspect in summer it's a nicer view, although you probably can't see as much when the trees are covered in leaves. The dining room is quiet with large tables and a lot of space...which is very hard to find in NYC.
So if you don't mind old furniture and grumpy waiters, you'll enjoy the view. I suspect if you set your expectations correctly you'll enjoy your meal, but if you have high expectations you will definitely be disappointed.
This is my second visit to the Park Lane Hotel's Park Room. It's a lovely room, overlooking Central Park. The waitpeople are very nice and attentive, especially Atif (?). I hope I have his name right. He's a middle-aged gentleman with a swarthy complexion and moustache. He came to our table, although he wasn't our waiter, and said welcome back! How nice it was to be remembered.
Quite honestly, being a native New Yorker and knowing most hotel restaurants are over-priced and not that great, I wouldn't have gone in the first place, were it not for the pianist, 100 year old Irving Fields. Mr. Fields has not lost his touch, sense of humor or winning smile, and after my first experience with the restaurant and Mr. Fields performance there, I had to go back!
As previously, the food was reasonably priced and delicious, and the view unbeatable, so as long as Mr. Fields is there, we WILL be back!
I've been to the Park Lane before, and had lunch and dinner there. I truly think the place is mismanaged!
The Park Room is beautiful, Irving Fields playing the piano for lunch is a marvelous addition, the waitpeople are attentive and nice and the food is delicious but ... did you ever try to get them on the phone? NOBODY answers the phone on their main line. Only reservations (for hotel stays) answers. When I finally got through to reservations (for the hotel stay) they told me I had to make the reservation through Open Table, but no where on their site does it say that, nor could they tell me how to find it on the site! You must know first - go to their website, then - click on Park Room - and if you go all the way down after those steps, you will see Open Table.
I attempted to make another reservation for this coming Sunday, as I have friends in town that I am sure would love it. From my last experience, I knew where to go on the site. The first thing that came up on Open Table was "no reservations available for the next 4 months"! Since the room was EMPTY last Sunday, I found that hard to believe and started over. This time I got what I wanted.
I am sure they are losing a lot of would-be customers because of their lack of logic and forethought. The restaurant had exactly 5 people, besides us. However, lunch with Irving Fields was a delight. The man is 100 years old and a charming, handsome genius on the piano. And he doesn't have to be asked to tell stories about his music, career, travels or anything else. That's why I'm going back this Sunday, but someone should tell management about the difficulty in making a reservation for a meal!
When you walk into this restaurant, you leave the noise and hustle bustle of the City behind. It is a peaceful dining experience with a magnificent view of Central Park .
We both had salads with chicken. We were both surprised by the generous portion of the side of chicken. It is always a pleasure dining here because the food is consistently good and the portions very decent.
Service is similar to Europe so please no rushing.
Wickedly expensive for truly mediocre food. However, on Mother's Day I could cut any restaurant some slack. But the service could not have been worse. Fifteen minutes from the time we were seated to being greeted by a staff member. Ten additional minutes to receive a cup of coffee. (The carafe from which it was poured was just next to the table on a hot-stand, making the experience even more ludicrous.)
Even after the restaurant had cleared out, the basics (taking away buffet plates, filling coffee cups) seemed beyond the staff. After standing up the second time to request coffee and water, the hostess shot back at me: I sent someone over already. Mother's Day is a lousy day to dine out. This just happens to be a truly lousy place to brunch.
