The Park Restaurant in the Echo Park neighborhood of central Los Angeles is perfect for great nourishment and relaxation. The Park Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We went on a Sunday night on the recommendation of a friend and weren't disappointed. We found parking on the side street next to the restaurant. As it turned out, it was Southern BBQ night. The food was fresh and tasty, especially the blanched brussels sprout leaves salad - yummy! The staff was friendly and attentive. The prices were reasonable.
If you go during the week or on a Friday or Saturday night, parking might be somewhat of an issue. The restaurant is small so you might also have to wait without a reservation. Other than that, I'd totally recommend this 'neighborhood gem.'
I had their special of the evening, Mushroom Pot Pie and my sweetie had her favorite, Spaghetti and Meatballs. (See a previous review praising the Park for consistency - she still raves about their Spaghetti and Meatballs. Great flavor and texture.) The Mushroom Pot Pie had a wonderful broth, deep, rich with a savory flavor I can't quite put my finger on. The only down side was that the root vegetables were uneven in their texture - some tender, some tender-crisp. On the other hand, the sour cherry biscuit that topped the pot pie was absolutely wonderful - perfect texture - light, fluffy, didn't get soggy at all, and the subtle sour cherry flavor paired well with the mushroom filling. (The uneven veggies are why I rated the Park a 4 on food tonight.
The Park always proves to be one of the best restaurants in the city where the food takes precedence over everything else. All the ingredients are amazingly fresh and prepared to perfection. On this occasion we had the buttermilk fried chicken which was the most tender piece of chicken we've ever had. The amazing thing about it was it is NEVER greasy yet juicy...it defies all logic. Flavor, tender, juicy and a generous proportion. Even the side dishes are prepared if they are the main course with the Kale, which I never eat anywhere else, was tender and tasty!
The service is always amazing, attentive but never intrusive. Great job Rob!
I have been dining here for 2 years. This is my first review but the feeling has continued and has been consistent since the first visit. There are no glitz, glamour or smoking mirrors, only a true culinary experience. At this restaurant the owner cooks for you every night. There is no relief team. Another great staple is the staff. The staff has remained the same since my first visit. The service is personal, friendly and they are knowledgeable. The quality of food and service is much higher than the amount that will come out of your wallet. Stay local and humble!
I went with some work friends, and upon entering the restaurant, we were expected to pick up our own menus and wine list and pick up water glasses and fill them and take them to a table, which we picked out ourselves. Needless to say it was a bit difficult to hold the glass, fill it - which required two hands, and hold on to the menu and wine list. Not good service.
We have eaten here several times and have always had interesting food and great service. It is a great place if you are going to the Music Center. It is only about 5 minutes away.
It is good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our only problem is parking can be difficult.
The Park remains one of the best restaurants in the city where the food is equivalent to that of a 5 star celebrity chef restaurant! The Fried Chicken is amazingly moist and tender without being greasy and oily! Everything is fresh, tasty and the service is wonderfully attentive!
A definite gem in Los Angeles!
I hosted an impromptu management meeting here - it was a little bit more upscale than I anticipated - but in a good way. From the outside it looks like a cute neighborhood cafe - inside is fresh, forward thinking, modern Californian cuisine. The waitstaff couldn't have been more accommodating. I'll definitely return, maybe with a for a "real" date and not a business date!
I've written a lot of reviews for the Park, so it is tough to come up with new things to say, suddenly I realize how grateful I am to be able to say that. I just wrote a review of a restaurant where the quality is faltering. The Park is consistent - consistently good, consistently raising the bar with creative new dishes, yet keeping enough of the favorites that you can be sure they'll be serving something you crave - even if you didn't know you were craving it. And the service? Consistently pleasant, attentive and satisfying. Ahhh, The Park!
When the special is a choice of soup or salad (incredible gazpacho or amazing iceberg wedge) plus a choice of the best fried chicken or mac and cheese with a corn pudding stuffed tomato -- it's frustrating to make a choice, but the reward is you can't go wrong. The banana cream pie was the only dessert offering and it was delicious, so that was easy.
Don't get me started on the regular menu. Everything on that is also noteworthy, so go back if you have a hard time choosing.
My friend and I really enjoyed our food at the Park. If you don't already know that Echo Park is an "iffy" area, you'll find out if you come here or visit the neighborhood. Parking is also very difficult. I hope this place makes it because the the food and service were really great!
Some restaurants are great at a few things, but The Park seems to do everything well. Southern fried chicken, fish tacos, lamb kabobs, BBQ, Jidori chicken, brisket -- they're all amazing. All of those things aren't on the menu every day, but that's a reason to go back.
Came in for lunch the other day. I hear the Chef is working on a new lunch menu, and I am glad as I feel the sandwiches need some updating (at least for my taste).
I had the Banh Mi, which came with Pork Belly, some carrots, an aioli/mayo of sorts, cilantro, all on a baguette. The mistake I made was not reading the whole description of the sandwich, which indicated it had Pork Belly. I enjoy pork, but I do not enjoy the layers and layers of fat pork belly has with very little meat. This was not The Park's fault, and I should have been more sharp. When trying to find a sandwich though, I feel the lunch is limited in creativity and doesn't represent The Park like how their dinners do.
Service was top notch, and I do intend to return.
The Park is that neighborhood gem that you are always looking for. They keep the menu interesting and I've loved everything I've had there. Service is always friendly and the atmosphere is great! I've been going since they first opened and it just keeps getting better!
Given some of the reviews, I was a little disappointed. Everyone's food was good, but I was expecting more. The restaurant is small, so making reservations was a good idea, especially for our group of eight. But the floor is tile and the sound really reverberates, so I had a terrible time hearing anything at the table (which is generally not an issue for me). We probably won't be going back unless we need a place to eat down the street from Dodger Stadium. But I wouldn't make a special trip.
I was looking for something interesting with a food rating on Zagat of 24 or higher, where we could go on to the Greek Theater from there without a huge effort (15-minute drive), and found The Park Restaurant. I'm stunned that I didn't know about this restaurant with the many Dodger games we attend! We had a delicious dinner, found the menu to have many options that are not run-of-the-mill, and the server was just lovely. They accommodated our request for a bit larger table after we told them we weren't going to staying for more than just a quick bite. Highly recommend.
This restaurant blows my mind. The food is amazing. Buttermilk fried chicken was the best ever. Savory strawberry rhubarb tart was delicious and surprising. And the general atmosphere is like a party. Every table having fun. And as one of our party said, "Everyone here seems like I would want to be friends with them". Bravo Chef Josh. The Park is a gem. Shhhh.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. We went here prior to going to the Pantages. It's not far and they got us taken care of in time even though we arrived late. The Tuesday Prix Fixe special is such a great deal for such a nice plate with soup or salad and dessert to boot. For only $20 is fantastic. The waiter/pseudo-owner Rob is so attentive and full of information and suggestions to help narrow down your wine and food selections. He does such a great job!! We had the chicken piccata and the mushroom risotto. Both were very good. The wines made the meal. Ancient Peaks '11 was the best.
