The Palmetto Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Service was SUPERB! Ate there twice during our meetings and both times, had a great experience. Had the buffet, which was expansive and really appreciate the choice of intensity of bottomless coffee and the to go cup! My only issue was the price; $30 for breakfast plus tip is really steep and there aren’t other options available in the hotel. Other than price, this was a wonderful option and I highly recommend it!
Been dining at the Cafe since 1999...it's our favorite spot in Charleston...the She Crab Soup is divine...entirely appropriate for dessert...very fresh food, the subtle and simple elegance of the low country...excellent atmosphere for conversation and quiet, leisurely dining...sophisticated service...
A "go to" place for us when we want a white tablecloth restaurant, friendly and professional service and classic American food. Server John Scott was a 10/10 as was the food (Caesar salad with oysters and scallops; and scallops). Dessert was also very good - a chocolate molten cake like none we've ever had with roasted nuts and a sweet drizzle. Palmetto never disappoints.
My wife and I went to brunch last Saturday with a reservation. Lily was as charming and professional as ever. Unfortunately the waiter we had(Gray) did not pay attention to detail or timing as we are accustomed to. It is not a big deal to me but I think management should be aware. For example, I've never had to clear my plate after going to the buffet and then have to borrow silverware from another table. Hope this helps

The Palmetto Grill is my FAVORITE dining venue of any kind in Charleston. The sunny atmosphere is elegant yet casual and the service is exceptional. The Sunday brunch buffet is delightful with an abundance of scrumptious selections ranging from healthy and light to irresistible-and-worth-every-morsel! The gracious staff is most efficient and pleasant. I have enjoyed brunch at this establishment twice; on both occasions, Paul was our server. He is such a gentleman and treated us like royalty - while exuding a friendly and hospitable manner. I can't say enough about this lovely restaurant. It is not to be missed!
This is one of the best brunch/lunches in Charleston. We are local and for some reason never made it the Palmetto Cafe (have been to Charleston Grille). We intend to make up for lost time. The brunch buffet was amazing with so many choices, my husband did not know what to select. I ordered the "Tasting Sampler" from the lunch menu and it was so delicious.
The atmosphere is elegant without being stuffy. Our server (Gray, the best!) gave us impeccable service and we will ask for him when we return.
The food was prepared very well. The dishes were tasty, creative and fresh ,top of the line ingredients were used. The service was top notch as was the ambiance. The only recommendation would be a revamp of the desserts, offfered. After such a delicious main entree the dessert was a let down. They are in need of a good pastry chef, and a fine meal would be complete.
We had brunch at Palmetto for our daughter's birthday. We ordered from the menu instead of having the buffet. The food was very good as always but the service was terribly slow. We felt as if the wait staff preferred that patrons have the buffet. A little disappointing especially since it was a special occasion.
Overpriced and noisy! We went there for Father's Day brunch and it was a zoo. We ordered three a la carte breakfast items and it took over 30 minutes for them to be served. I think they assume that most people will go with the buffet so weren't staffed in the front or back of the house to deal with anything but buffet service. The noise level was so bad that we could barely hear each other talk. (Lots of out of control babies and kids which isn't the restaurant's fault.) The bill was $84 for three breakfasts (no alcohol or extras) which I felt was a bit much considering the slow service and the chaotic vibe. Our server was sweet but completely frazzled and overwhelmed. The management needs to have more staff on schedule especially on a busy holiday weekend.
Overall, the food was borderline awful to terrible (across 3 meals and appetizers). I am a local and can assure you that the seafood is NOT fresh. My meal was almost inedible (avocado crab salad). The presentation was lovely but the food was not. The service was the best part of the experience and it was quite good. The ceiling has noticeable water damage. The restaurant is in need of a deep cleaning overall and major cosmetic repair. The cost was exorbitant. Cost is a nonissue for an excellent (or even good) meal, but this meal was a waste of money. I'd avoid this restaurant. I would not go back and would not recommend. It was convenient to an event which is why we went -- big mistake.
Palmetto Cafe does not disappoint. I have visited for breakfast brunch anniversaries, family dinners and business dinners. Michelle was very efficient, timely and professional. She crab soup was phenomenal and Michelle graciously offered us additional sherry. The Caesar salad with local shrimp (with dressing on the side) was very attractive with the chef's special touch (you'll have to see it). And, of course, we were served a pineapple morsel dipped in chocolate as a thank you from the restaurant. Looking forward to going back!
