The Palmetto Cafe
I didn't realize this was a hotel restaurant when I booked the reservation. I might have considered another location had I realized it was in a hotel. The food and service were very good. The brunch buffet was fairly fresh and hot. It was a little noisy and very expensive. But overall an enjoyable brunch.
Our server was divine
Service was amazing as was the food.
Brunch is a buffet which is unexpected for such an expensive and nice restaurant. Lunch menu mainly consists of seafood and salads which is rather disappointing, but nevertheless the shrimp and grits are great.
For a “first” class establishment the Sunday Brunch was a disappointment. Besides a beautiful appearance of the fresh fruit and some smoked salmon only scrambled eggs cooked three different ways with potatoes or grits with shrimp in a soap tasting sauce was available. No ham, roast beef or similar was served. Comparing this brunch to the ones served Upstate the Palmetto Cafe event comes out like the “poor relatives menu”. Definitely not worth the expense.
The Palmetto Cafe was elegant, bright, beautiful and welcoming. We (two female friends visiting from out of town) did plan smartly ahead with a late afternoon reservation (2 p.m.) The portions are large and this was our meal for the day since we had evening tickets for a play. The short rib appetizer on plantains that we split was superb . I ordered the caesar salad with both scallops and chicken for my protein. I had ordered the salad with dressing on the side but it did arrive fully dressed. I chose not to send it back. The scallops were divine but the chicken was overcooked and tough. I left about half of what I was served. With one large table near us it was a little noisy, but the ambience of the room more than made of for the noise. I would definitely go back but probably share an entree if you are not a big eater.
Outstanding in every way!!! Impeccable service, ambience and delicious food that was beautifully plated!!!
Beautiful restaurant. Food was food. Great service
Excellent food. The Palmetto Omelette was outstanding. Our waiter John was both professional and courteous. He made the experience a pleasure and enjoyable. We look forward to our next opportunity to dine there
In my opinion, a high-end breakfast buffet should have a made-to-order omelet station, not just a pan of scrambled eggs. Also, it is doubtful that the small shrimp in the shrimp and grits were local. More likely, they were frozen imports from Asia or South America. I enjoyed the cheese blintzes, smoked salmon, and fresh fruit, though. Service was slow at 7:30 am, although there were several servers milling about and only a few diners. My husband, daughter and I have dined at the Palmetto Cafe on several occasions (usually holidays) and have generally been happy with the food and service, but this visit was disappointing.
Always wonderful! I go there frequently and often recommend it
What a pleasant way to spend a Sunday brunch, in a relaxed, comfortable bright space! We had a lovely experience and a terrific meal, complimented by well prepared and very tasty cocktails. Frankly, everything on the menu looked so good it was hard to decide what to order. The good news is that we could only enjoy so much at one sitting. We will be back!
Wonderful service!! Great brunch buffet, lovely atmosphere, were happy to accommodate bringing in our stroller.
The Sunday Brunch was very good. They also have Gluten Free bread/toast is you ask for it.
All good! Just a bit overpriced - like $30 for 3 seafood tacos. But for a special occasion, it's a great place to go for excellent food.
We stayed at the Charleston Place hotel for a weekend and had two breakfasts and two lunches at Palmetto Cafe -all excellent. The crab salad for lunch is unbeatable and blueberry pancakes for breakfast -divine. The servers were outstanding -made you feel welcome and appreciated.
Had a wonderful brunch in the Palmetto Café - will definitely be back!
Incredible brunch. It's not the biggest spread ever, but they make it count. The caramel brioche is one-of-a-kind. The hollandaise on their eggs benedict is like silk.
While overall in Charleston the service we encountered was excellent. John, a 13-year veteran here, provided exquisite service and provided another level of hospitality that I've rarely experienced.
Great spot for brunch and classy-southern-vibes.
The atmosphere was lovely - a table looking into the garden. Food and service excellent as one would expect in this first class hotel. Our kids stayed at the Belmond celebrating their wedding anniversary. It made sense for us to drive down from Pawleys Island to meet them for brunch. The others had omelets and I ordered the smoked salmon platter. The coffee was fresh and served in a French press.
My wife and I had a spending brunch at The Palmetto Café. The food was outstanding. The service was superb. The setting was outstanding. I live in Charleston from 1991 to 1994 and have only been back once. What a memorable brunch.
Whenever friends are in Charleston, they ask to go to Palmetto Grill because of the great menu, delicious food, and particularly on Sunday when they are able to enjoy the brunch. This past Sunday was especially enjoyable. The lovely lady cooking omelets was so personable, making our brunch even more special!
Overpriced, service sub par for a hotel of this caliber, had to ask for drinks.
Excellent buffet with outstanding food. Excellent service from check in and throughout the meal.
Excellent as usual. Great service from John.
A great little spot inside the Belmont hotel. When there to grab a bite around 13:00 with no expectations. The ingredients are of high quality, the recipes are researched and innovative. The chef as done a great job. The waiting staff is one you expect to find at an high end white table cloth dinner restaurant. The prices are a bit high, but you get your moneys worth. Great place for an important business meeting or a date. The guest will be impressed.
Wonderful experience. You will need a reservation.
Our waiter was less than attentive on several points. Thank God Lilly was there to help us with most of them. I am NOT a whiner. The Palmetto Cafe is among my top five places to go ever and I would like to keep it there. Thought you might like to know about who was not paying attention to detail. I expect that two good friends will be visiting soon and will continue to recommend without reservation.
My daughter and I had the most wonderful experience at the Palmetto Café... the food was wonderful, the customer service was great and the coffee was outstanding. Thank you for such a great experience.
The Buffet is a little bit overpriced $31 pp. Would like to try their regular menu. Not sure if would be back for the brunch Buffet.
An exceptionally high quality breakfast buffet with an extraordinary range of items. Omelets cooked to order.
Wonderful brunch Buffett
Always wonderful. Light, wonderful ambiance, good service, food always amazing!
Amazing food and ambiance, as always. Always a pleasure!
I come to lunch quite often as l reside in Charleston and enjoy it very much the menu is great! Just would like to see a change in the tricolor butter maybe regular butter or a honey butter , just for a change for a while thank you .
Service was very friendly and efficient. The brunch was outstanding—-every single item was fresh and delicious!
Delightful, superb. Best place for an elegant lunch in Charleston.
Enjoyed having brunch at the Palmetto Cafe. Paul, our server was very attentive, helpful and accommodating. Food was well prepared -- hot food was hot, cold plates were cold. Omelet station attendant was very accommodating in making sure my selection was prepared just right!
Really good food. We had the breakfast Buffett and was absolutely delicious
