Afternoon Tea
The iconic Palm Court at The Plaza hotel with a complete renovation helmed by Master Architect Thierry Despont. The Palm Court showcases classic American savory menus from morning to evening, while Despont has brought the grand feeling of Central Park indoors, creating an ambiance that feels warm, private and glamorous. Bespoke furnishings provide a relaxed, yet elegant setting well-suited for either a professional breakfast meeting or an evening of cocktails crafted by mixologist Brian Van Flandern. Afternoon Tea truly shines with custom tableware and china, a tea list with worldly depth, and of course, a bit of Eloise too. Pastry Chef Matthew Lambie creates unique dessert experiences that effortlessly combine both classic and modern elements, while staying true to the Palm Court grandeur. This elegant room marked with its stained glass dome and impressive height adds a touch of old New York to a very polished and modern sense of hospitality.

My medium rare steak was underdone. There were only 3 other tables dining and food was delivered quickly, but waited a long time to get wAitress attention for drinks and bill.

The Palm Court is beautiful, classy, and while the tea and champagne and food were delicious, they were not worth the insane price that was charged. The service seemed condescending when I asked for tap water (they chuckled a bit as if I couldn’t afford better), and didn’t take the time to explain the menu or teas as if we were supposed to know everything when we got there. After paying the bill, my boyfriend and I got up to leave and one of the waiters come rushing after me and shouts, “ma’am, did you pay your bill?!” since I am a younger woman and I’m assuming he thought we were doing some sort of dine and dash cause we couldn’t afford it? I don’t really know, he wasn’t even one of the men waiting on us. Everyone in the restaurant turned around and looked at me and it was embarrassing and rude the way he went about it. Nice way to exit from a $300 bill. Will not be going back.

For the price/status and high scale of this place is, the service did not meet the standard. We traveled across country and chose to spend a birthday celebration of “tea time” at The Palm Court and was completely disappointed by the treatment of the staff inside the restaurant.

They downright ignored my friend and I, until we kept giving them the eye of wanting service. We sat down approximately 12:28pm with reservations at 12:30pm, we finally got approached around 12:45pm. We noticed several tables who sat after us got greeted immediately by a waiter who seemed to be the Head Male Server (Do not recall his name; however, he exude the body language of a head server.)

Several staff members walked passed us numerous times as we were near the entrance to the kitchen. We noticed they stood in the corner and talked amongst themselves in low voices and looked our direction multiple times, but not one of them seemed eager to want to assist us.

When our waiter finally helped us, he was courteous; however he didn’t introduce to himself (he had no name tag) and/or was he thorough about the menu. We did tell the server it was our first time; it seemed that our service was not wanted.

As we walked out after spending a couple hundred dollars, I noticed the bartender and another female staff member talking and looking our direction. They did not seem welcoming what so ever.

Overall, the best part of our anticipated experience was the lovely young lady at the host stand who was very pleasant. Her body language, smile and professionalism was what I would expect from a place like The Plaza. I did not enjoy my birthday brunch due to the treatment of some of the restaurant staff.

It’s completely overrated. There’s a food court down stairs that would have been better and more reasonably priced.
I would not recommend the Palm.

Outstanding venue and service.
Food is good although would expect slightly more for cost - Harrods is demand price and you receive more food.
Service in plaza second to none.

No soap, toilet paper or hand towels available.

We had dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Our experience was excellent from the very beginning. The entire staff made us feel welcome and special. They congratulated us and took very good care of us the entire evening. The food was excellent but the service and ambiance are a step above. We had a mezze plate appetizer with several different types of hummus. The bread was so warm and there were also stuffed grape leaves which were perfectly made. Not soggy or sour at all. Our main courses were cooked to perfection and desert was excellent as well! I would definitely recommend for a special occasion!

Very disappointed, more so for my mother whose always wanted to visit the Plaza. This was for her birthday breakfast. They may be dressed impeccably but the wait staff service was poor, very strong accents which made it difficult to understand. The food and service was nowhere near the standards expected at such an iconic place. Despite booking months in advance, the table we sat at was set for 6 but we had a party of 5, wouldn’t have minded if they set the table straight after taking one setting away to give us more space. It wasnt busy. The bill was then placed on our table before we even finished eating, say 35 mins after arrival. My card was initially declined (only because it was this particular cards first use outside the UK but it was very quickly resolved after checking a verification code on my mobile). Trying to explain this to people who didn’t seem to grasp English wasn’t easy, the initial decline wasn’t dealt with very discreetly by the staff either causing a degree of embarrassment to our party. The setting was great, no doubt, but the restaurant was very quite and if this is the level of customer care they shouldn’t really be surprised.

While on business in NYC, our Champagne Tea was one of our self-care moments. From the moment we walked into the Palm Court of The Plaza Hotel. until we departed, the staff treated us like royalty. We will go back soon. Do not miss this opportunity.
