Afternoon Tea
The iconic Palm Court at The Plaza hotel with a complete renovation helmed by Master Architect Thierry Despont. The Palm Court showcases classic American savory menus from morning to evening, while Despont has brought the grand feeling of Central Park indoors, creating an ambiance that feels warm, private and glamorous. Bespoke furnishings provide a relaxed, yet elegant setting well-suited for either a professional breakfast meeting or an evening of cocktails crafted by mixologist Brian Van Flandern. Afternoon Tea truly shines with custom tableware and china, a tea list with worldly depth, and of course, a bit of Eloise too. Pastry Chef Matthew Lambie creates unique dessert experiences that effortlessly combine both classic and modern elements, while staying true to the Palm Court grandeur. This elegant room marked with its stained glass dome and impressive height adds a touch of old New York to a very polished and modern sense of hospitality.

Warm and energetic servers made up for the 45-minute wait (from our reserved time). Some of the sandwiches were stale. Really overall an uneven experience.

Once we were finally seated (almost an hour late) our service was outstanding. Our waiter was so enthusiastic about the experience it was contagious. We sent multiple post-cards provided by the restaurant, who also places postage! (Very nice touch)
They need to incorporate a system where they will text you when your table is ready. We cut our shopping short to go stand in their lobby for our reservation. We understand schedules run behind but it was extremely annoying to be held hostage when we could have been doing other things on our short vacation

The Plaza is iconic and you go for the ambience. That being said, we expected a little more for the amount we paid. The service we received was almost nonexistent. Our server ignored us for a good hour

We were served by the lovely Ursula, who made us feel special and cared for throughout. She was knowledgeable, provided great recommendations, and was happy to help at all times. It was my birthday on the day, I was provided with a complimentary plate of mini pastries and desserts, with a candle to blow out and make a birthday wish. I've wanted to visit the plaza for years and Ursula made what was already a special experience even more fabulous and memorable.

I took my daughter-in-law here for High Tea as a Christmas present. It was a wonderful experience. The Palm Court is very elegant and the service is wonderful. The food was very good. I loved the spreads they have for the scones- lemon curd, a delicious cranberry jam and clotted cream (but more like whipped cream). There were five sandwiches presented- the smoked salmon layered on brown bread with chive cream cheese was really good, as were the cucumber and egg salad sandwiches. The roast beef on a tiny bun was very lovely but the bun seemed a bit stale as was the ham on a small roll. Desserts were beautiful and we took most of them home. Tea was served in elegant teapots with matching plates. We enjoyed everything.

Its a great experience. Its a great bucket list item but I'm not taking it off the list. You need to schedule well in advance if you want to go for a special occasion, especially if its near the holidays. Also take the time to visit the shops at the Plaza in the lower levels. While you're there, take some time to stroll 5th Avenue and Central Park!

The Palm Court is a beautiful venue. The service was good, but the food was just meh. Afternoon tea is a favorite activity when we travel. This is the first time I haven't really enjoyed the fare. The sandwiches were a bit dry. They were stingy with the clotted cream. Only a few of the pastries were tasty. The scones were good, but overall, meh. For almost $100 per person (there were 4 of us), we could have gone to a Michelin star restaurant instead.

They seated us 21 minutes late which was off-putting. Once we recovered from that setback the food and service were terrific. Kids and adults loved it!

It is not worth $95 per person. In January 2019, high tea without alcohol was $75 per person. It did NOT improve in any form and thus is not worth $20 more dollars than 12 months ago.
By all means, walk by, take pictures, but SKIP the tea. The food is on the better side of average. The sandwiches dry out almost immediately, there is no tea cozy on the tea pots. The tea gets cold quickly and yet the tea seating is for 2 hours.

The experience is simply not worth the money.

I have always wanted to have Afternoon Tea at The Palm Court at The Plaza in New York City!
And, my wish finally came true!

The service was impeccable, and the food (taste, presentation, quantity) was delectable!

However, the noise was aggressive as everyone was talking loud, and we could hardly hear our waitress or the piano player.

The price is also very high, but I will say that the experience itself is "priceless"!

Thank you!

My friend and I have come to the plaza 6 years in a row now to do the afternoon tea as our Christmas gift to each other. Each year we are always blown away by how well the service is, the quality of the food and tea. I am gluten intolerant and feel like my food is just as good as the regular menu. Our server this year, Faraiz (spelling?), was so outstanding and courteous. I wanted a particular tea but they didn’t have it so he made an excellent recommendation and even offered to switch it if I did not like it. I really appreciated this. We look forward to coming back next year!!!

Went to the palm court with my daughters for tea, there first time doing this. The dining room was beautiful. The tea was great, champagne for the adults was great. Though the food was mediocre at best. The service was awful, plus our waiter looked sloppy, unbuttoned top button on shirt and tie hanging low, would take 30 minutes plus to check in on us. If I am spending north of $400 for 2 kids and 2 adults for tea, tea sandwiches, and dessert pastries I would expect impeccable service and a certain level professionalism. Oh well, do it for the experience if you want, otherwise there are plenty of better options at that price point in Manhattan that would really wow you with food and service. I think they are riding on their laurels and have become a bit complacent.

There are many restaurants in NYC that offer Afternoon Tea, and we have been to many of them, but The Palm Court ranks among the best. For years we have chosen The Palm Court as our "go to" afternoon treat to relax and unwind. The restaurant is mesmerisingly beautiful with its wide open design and live Palm Trees towering over head. The Staff is professional to the letter yet friendly and accommodating. The food is prepared with the skill of a magician. Delicious sandwiches, fresh scones that are often still warm and miniature pastries that are as beautiful as they are tasty. Teas offered are many, each unique from bold to delicate tastes. Not to mention the fabulous bartender who will skillfully make any drink exactly to your liking(you must try the Mint Julep). With all that said, we love Afternoon Tea. So if you are looking for a memorable experience, try The Palm Court.

The setting was beautiful, but scones were substandard. The sandwiches were the highlight but even the bread had started to dry out. We enjoyed the ambience and service was lovely. We looked up the cost before we went and the cost mentioned on both the website and your confirmation booking were different to the cost on the day. Website said $75, your confirmation said $85 and the Plaza Menu stated $95. We don’t mind the cost, but require consistency and value for money. We have experienced High Tea in different venues around the world and this was the most disappointing. Very sad to say...

Service was unimpressive. Waitress had a bit of an attitude and messed up part of our order. Twilight tier had substitutions which was not explained prior to ordering. Restaurant is beautiful but service and food not worth the price.
