Afternoon Tea
The iconic Palm Court at The Plaza hotel with a complete renovation helmed by Master Architect Thierry Despont. The Palm Court showcases classic American savory menus from morning to evening, while Despont has brought the grand feeling of Central Park indoors, creating an ambiance that feels warm, private and glamorous. Bespoke furnishings provide a relaxed, yet elegant setting well-suited for either a professional breakfast meeting or an evening of cocktails crafted by mixologist Brian Van Flandern. Afternoon Tea truly shines with custom tableware and china, a tea list with worldly depth, and of course, a bit of Eloise too. Pastry Chef Matthew Lambie creates unique dessert experiences that effortlessly combine both classic and modern elements, while staying true to the Palm Court grandeur. This elegant room marked with its stained glass dome and impressive height adds a touch of old New York to a very polished and modern sense of hospitality.

I would recommend the Palm Court as a one and done experience. I was happy that we went and had a great dessert. We had a reservation and they were hesitant to sit us even though there were many open tables. The server seemed annoyed by us... maybe because we were just getting dessert and drinks (9:30 PM at night). I thought it was a cool place and our son loved his huge sundae. Glad we went but will not be back on our next trip!

Birthday afternoon tea. Was ok, the hostess didn’t even tell us we could have a drink at the bar while we wait. Server was a bit rude. I’m pescatarian and I and asked for no mean just more of the fish and egg sandwiches they brought me peanut butter and jam which i didn’t like. The toilets were out of order so had to go downstairs. Was just ok.

The assistance getting us to our table was very rude and unprofessional. The wet chair I was supposed to sit on was cleaned with a wet tissue so it ended up me cleaning it on my own. No excuse of the lady - she was not willing to help or do her job.
In my food I found a hair. Thanks for giving me this food for free in the end but even the manager did not apologised at all. He just wanted me to understand that there are a lot of people working on preparing the food and that things like this can happen. They can, yes. But not for a 125$ meal. Especially if the toast of the bites were not fresh at all. If you prepare the food ahead make sure to keep them right during the time you are serving. And in addition the hotel should check on the toilets more often. No toilet paper, it was smelling and the floor was wet. Unfortunately me and my family had a very bad time at your place

This was our second visit to the Palm Court. The July visit was fabulous. Outstanding service made the visit a day to remember forever. We could not wait to return to the city and come back for another Palm Court experience.

Unfortunately, the service this time totally ruined the experience. Our server was inattentive, only poured one cup of tea and was very difficult to understand. We had to ask another staff member to identify the food selections.

He disappeared throughout our stay and finally brought the check after three requests.

Based on this experience, I would not recommend the Palm Court. It was definitely not worth the $125/person.

Our server wasn’t attentive had to request the champagne add on. Requested hot water and never received it was never offered fresh tea. Waited over 20 mins for the bill only to be over charged and the server said it was correct, when we eventually got the waiter back after another 15 mins he corrected it and said it was a system mistake! Unfortunately we won’t be back. We was at blue box by Tiffany the day before and the food and service was 110% better and 50% cheaper x

This was everything I dreamt it would be! The food for afternoon tea was delicious, the tea was amazing and our waiter, Kazi, was AMAZING! Ask for him when you go! He was very knowledgeable about all the tea and poured every glass for us. Loved every minute of it!

Arrived at the plaza and was shown my the door man to the restaurant, once we checked in for afternoon tea we were left waiting and the lady whom took are name was very unpleasant and didn’t bother to tell us to do anything. We then asked someone who then assisted us. however the rest of the staff were fantastic, explained the menu well and specially the teas on offer. 3 of us had the New Yorker and one of us had the champagne tea. It was perfect. We then went to the bar afterwards and had a few cocktails. The plaza is a beautiful hotel and was a lovely experience. The afternoon tea was pricey but worth it. I would highly recommend anyone to try it.

We had a fabulous experience at The Palm Court for Afternoon Tea. Everything was wonderful especially our server Fariz. We were here three years ago for Afternoon Tea and loved it. This time everything seemed elevated thanks to Fariz. We can’t wait to come back!

Going for afternoon at the Palm Court was a wonderful experience. The service, food, and ambiance was great! It is pricy, but you pay for the name. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas time and everyone was so polite. I will say that the area we were sat in was quite crammed even though I had made a reservation far in advance, and there were plenty of other open areas.

The Palm Court is definitely a special occasion and kid-friendly way to have afternoon tea, especially at the holiday season. This is our second year doing it and likely our last. The cost is very dear for what it is, which is essentially not special enough to warrant the prices.

We waited nearly 40 minutes for our seat even with a reservation. The hostess didn’t give us any information while waiting other than our table was being set up - nearly 6 parties sat before us. For a location of that caliber, I would have expected much better service. Would not return.

The service was terrible. They were 30-45 minutes behind with reservations. The hostess was clearly over worked, but extremely rude. They forgot to find us when our table was finally ready. Once seated it took over 20 minutes for anyone to come speak to us. Tea and sandwiches took another 30 minutes. We didn’t see or hear from anyone else on the wait staff until our bill just appeared at our table. For the price, location, etc.; I would expect a much higher level of service. This is terrible service even if it was a diner in the middle of nowhere. Terrible.

The star attraction to attending the high tea at The Palm is their ambiance. Our party all ordered the Holiday High Tea. Our lead male server took our order and only returned to settle the account. Their savories and sweets were eye catching and delicious. Over all, due to the lack of service it seemed more like a 3 - 4 star experience rather than the 5 star I would have wanted and expected to provide.

Arrived promptly at 4:00pm reservation time. We didn’t get seated until 4:24pm. Server came to our table at 4:28 and said “may I take your order?” No description of the menu; no asking how we were doing; no apologies for keeping us waiting 24 minutes; no recommendations. This set would be unacceptable for a cheap diner. It is TERRIBLE for a $100+/per person restaurant. No explanation of food items when tray got brought to our table. TERRIBLE!!! Food was ok. Tea was ok. Service was worst I have ever had at a restaurant and this was the Plaza... restaurant makes a big deal about needing to be on time and only getting the table for 90 minutes. Server checked on us twice during tea service and was very rushed. I asked for my water glass to get refilled and they spilled a lot of water next to my glass and on my plate, but didn’tapologize and didn’t wipe it up or give me a napkin or bring me a new plate—TERRIBLE! And when we left, nobody was at host/reception stand to complain to. Really disappointing service. Worse than terrible—it was horrible. We brought our 11 year old daughter to celebrate our 22nd anniversary and whole experience from check in to departure was lousy. I’ve been to tea at the plaza twice before, but never had service so poor. We won’t go back.

Worst afternoon tea, don’t bother!!
My partner and I have been booked in for afternoon tea to celebrate our anniversary for almost a year. We visited NY from London and couldn’t wait to come to The Plaza...
We waited 15 minutes after our reservation to be seated and although the waiter was lovely, the food was not. We sandwiches were average and the cakes were so horrible we couldn’t even eat half of them. Coffee / teas are not refilled nor is any of the food and there is a constant stream of kitchen crates being brought through the restaurant. The decor is very tacky with fake trees everywhere and there is no dress code so people are wearing tracksuits and beanie hats which really lowers the tone. For two people you’re looking at over $200, please do not waste your money or time, you will be so disappointed just like we were.

Eloise brought us in. Happily, there wasn't a single snippy little girl with attitude among our servers--they were all seasoned gentlemen.

We wouldn't complain about the stratospheric prices but for a couple issues: an unenforced dress code; more customers than not were wearing tennis shoes, which website materials said weren't allowed. We had to leave the City Museum early to come back and change shoes, not that it mattered to most in attendance. We were also expressly advised to be on time, though we ourselves were kept standing around for 25 minutes before we were seated.

Went for afternoon tea for my moms birthday. They completely forgot to bring out the birthday dessert even though I reminded them when we checked in, and we saw it go to other tables. At this point I didn’t bother to ask again because we wanted to get out of there. The waiter came to our table about once, very flat attitude. Took forever to bring out just a simple tiered the tea tray, which had stale tasting sandwiches that could’ve come from a cheap deli. The scones and tea were fine, nothing to write home about. The desserts were shockingly bad. I don’t know how you mess up simple little desserts but the one with marshmallow on top was so bad we almost gagged. The little cheesecake square was the only thing that was fine. The ambiance is nice so we enjoyed ourselves anyway but very disappointed to have planned this expecting the best and being very underwhelmed.

Spent a few days alone in NYC for my birthday. Knew I wanted to celebrate the occasion with a special meal, and high tea at The Plaza Palm Court was just that. I chose the holiday tea which included my choice of two champagnes (Moët & Chandon brut Rosé, of course). So many delectable bites, from foie gras mousse and caviar + creme fraiche blini, to the sweet seasonal petit fours. They even brought a plate of French Macarons with a candle to top off a very filling spread! Lots of families, and little girls with bows in their hair, filled the dining room. Yet I felt perfectly at place as a solo diner. Can’t wait to return to The Big Apple and do it again soon!

Took my daughter to the Palm Court for tea and was just blown away by the whole experience. Our server, Kazi, made it so magical for my girl. He treated us so well, made my daughter feel special (even gave her a special birthday treat, though it wasn’t actually her birthday. They had a conversation about birthdays and he said he would give her a treat since she wasn’t there on her actual day). We enjoyed the food and the tea so much and would definitely do it again.

This place is so over its prime. Of course the original features of the building are stunning but the decor is dated and run down. The staff are not attentive and the menu doesn’t correspond with what’s advertised online.
