The Painted Lady
Had a lovely 8-course meal to celebrate two birthdays amongst our party. Food was spectacular —alternatively creative and exceptionally well-prepared. Service (i.e. our server, Alexandra) was absolutely first-rate — personable and attentive without being overbearing. We will definitely be back.
Great dining experience, the food tasted great. The value was great too as it was a experimental Wednesday.
Painted Lady continues to be a wonderful place for a special outing.
The food was excellent and above all the timing of each course was perfect. We were not rushed nor did we wait too long between courses . The wine pairing is a must .
Terrific space for an elegant dinner; we did the 8 course meal with wine pairings, very nicely presented. Quality food and presentations, the pairings were excellent. A Trocken reisling with scallop entrée was perfect. We went on a Sunday night and only one other table occupied, so like a private dining room. Spendy ($200 per for the above mentioned) but worth it.
One of the most unique and enjoyable dining experiences I've had in many years. Food was incredible, chef was exceptional, wine pairings approached perfection and staff knowledge of food and wine worthy of five stars. For a leisure evening of great food, the ability to engage in conversation The Painted Lady is well worth your consideration. You won't regret it.
Wonderful food, explained nicely, portions are the correct size for number of courses, wine is excellent (either the pairings or recommendations).
We had a wonderful time. Staff were very knowledgeable and the service level was perfect.
The food quality was excellent and presentation was well done. Extensive wine list, but we did the pairings and were very happy with the matches and price for quality. Very quaint place with an attentive wait staff. A great romantic get-away in the Willamette Valley.
Ridiculously small portions for the ridiculously high price. Food was tasty but you sort of feel like you're truly being taken advantage of - PUT SOME FOOD ON THOSE PLATES!
The waiter, originally from Ireland, was excellent, and a joy. Drinks were good but also terribly overpriced.
Service was fantastic, the food was very good and the presentation was excellent all that being said it’s still too expensive. We were there fo Valentine’s Day so it was more than normal prices and it was 8 courses so I understood the increase but it’s just too much for a Newberg Or. restaurant. We had a great time and we will probably return and recommend to our friends but it’s hard to appreciate the value of this restaurant.
The Painted Lady is always a very special experience. Spoil yourself, there is no need to wait for a special occasion!
All around one of the warmest and most delicious dining experiences in Oregon.
Birthday Celebration , it was a set Thursday night Champagne dinner deal. All was great with the exception of the portion size should meet the price tag.
It was a "salt" experimental dinner and some of the dishes were inedible. Also the cork fee on wine was exorbitant at $35.
I profess my comment by saying this was an experimental dinner I attended. I have had several dinners here and all of them have been good to great. But this dinner was lack luster. Food was eatable but not enjoyable. None of the dished would I want again, lacking in balance.
We have always looked forward to the Painted Lady’s Experimental Wednesdays. In the past we have reserved 2-3 times per season and always were joyful at the creative cuisine revolving around a diversity of themes. We felt so fortunate to have a restaurant of this quality within our local community. On this occasion the theme centered around the author, Roald Dahl. While the menu clearly embraced the whimsical and dark Dahl creations, the cuisine was lacking for the first time. We have never strayed from a universal 5-star rating in any of our past experiences. This visit the service lived up to the exemplary flawless quality of the past. The food, however was disappointing enough to cause us to cancel our February reservation. The only standout course was the amuse bouche “donut with duck liver mousse” - the Twit Bird Pot Pie was a stunner in presentation with the adoring chicken foot popping out of the pie, but the taste and temperature underwhelming. The sausage stuffed lamb was even more tepid and lacked flavor because of the temperature served. Perhaps most disappointing from a highly regarded restaurant was the dessert course. A deli sized slice of chocolate layer cake, devoid of any inspiration or beauty. The Carmel gelato saved the day and most of us declined to finish the bland cake and politely passed on wrapping it up, for fear it would remind us of our sincere disappointment.
As former front and back of the house industry employees - we recognize that things happen. The flu moves through the ranks and the culinary team is short on execution, people move on (we missed Bernie’s warmth and welcoming smile), the times may have created unknown challenges. We will pause, continue to monitor other guests reviews and hope that this Experimental Dinner disappointment was a “beyond our control” anomaly.
Food, service (Alexandra!!!!), wine parings were amazing!
Restaurant decor, dim lighting, tabletop arrangement are getting a bit worn and dated.
Very pricey ($200/pp with wine pairings) but a great overall experience.
Excellent food and service.
I did the wine pairing and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Towards the end of our meal as the restaurant filled the ambient noise started to rise with the larger crowd.
By FAR the best dining experience in Oregon wine country. Superb service. Delicious and adventurous food. Start with a signature cocktail. The wine pairings are perfect. TRUST the chef. A perfect destination for special occasions or celebrations.
As an added bonus, they paid special attention to a dairy allergy in our dining party and knocked it out of the park for her.
A special gem whether visiting or live locally. Will stay on our list of special dining experiences.
At this restaurant, everything is alway exquisite!
The Painted Lady always gives you a brilliant meal combined with world class service and thoughtful presentation.
Great tasting menu experience! The service was incredible and each course kept you guessing. They also provided a special birthday treat for enjoyment later.
What are the best meals I’ve had ever. Can’t believe this is something found in a small town. Five star dining in a small town. I’ve been all over the world and I’m telling you this is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to.
The service was exceptional 5 star and very attentive. My husband and I did the 8 course dinner with wine pairing. Our wait staff was exceptionally knowledgeable about the wine. The pairing were expertly done and introduced us to the best Pinot noir we had in Oregon. We truly enjoyed this 5 star dinner and was the highlight to our Oregon trip. We enjoyed the Patricia green Pinot so much we visited the winery the following day. Can’t imagine missing that vineyard but we would not have found them without the wine pairing. That is the kind of insider experience we are all searching for in this this kind of experience - truly enjoyable - outstanding!
Always the best! My favorite restaurant in Oregon.
World-class food and wine experience. Fantastic!
We thought the 2nd floor dining room was claustrophobic, the food was unhealthy (no greens) and the price was ridiculously high.
The restaurant is in a lovely former home and well set-up for small tables. They provide a pre-fixe, 8 course of small plates. Wonderful food and very good wine. A bit spendy, so best for special occassions.
My husband and I love trying different restaurants and have experienced tasting menus throughout the world. As we live in the Northwest , we decided we should try The Painted Lady
We were underwhelmed. The service was impeccable but except for the miso soup which was delicious and unusual the other courses although beautifully presented were not interesting or even tasty in some cases
I had hoped to do the 5 courses as I have a small appetite ( other restaurants including Michelin star rated have been able to do this) but The Painted Lady said we had to both do the same number of courses. The result was I was not able to eat the last 3 courses
I am glad we tried the restaurant but won’t return
Terrific meal served by folks who are proud of what they do. Each dish was well composed. Lots of play on textures.
My husband and I have been coming here annually for years. The service is spectacular and the ambience is lovely. Because the dining room is small it can get noisy. We have always found the food to be fabulous but this year there were a few dishes that were disappointing.
What a gem! It’s a must if celebrating something special.
We celebrated my wife's birthday at the Painted Lady. This is a high end restaurant that always meets expectations. It did not disappoint. All the many courses were beautifully arranged and prepared to perfection. I am a vegetarian (seafood) and they had no problem accommodating me. They treated us like royalty, yet were friendly and very willing to answer questions. I gave a moderately high noise level as a large party of 8 or so were very loud, thoroughly enjoying themselves as well.
Truly one of the greatest dining experience of our lives. Amazing food, impeccable service, beautiful food and wine pairings. It’s pricey, but worth it!
Outstanding dining experience, not to be missed! Creative, tasty and truly inspiring, the wines paired with each course were perfect. We'll be back!
Fantastic dining experience. I've been to numerous fine dining restaurants, but The Painted Lady is one of my favorites. The food was all delightful. The staff was attentive and eager to meet dietary restrictions of the party. The wine pairing is a must and it can be split with a partner. It's really amazing how the wines compliment the food. I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend this for a special occasion.
Amazing service and meal. So impressed! The only thing missing was some good Oregon craft beers.
