The Painted Lady
Beautiful, chic atmosphere, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and cuisine to the level of art work with a wine list to be envied. Worth every penny for the amazing experience.
The service was great. The food wasn't particularly innovative but was good (oyster mushrooms were over salted, desserts were not great). Over priced compared to fine dining tasting menu standards in bigger cities but a nice experience overall.
We have dined at painted lady many times. This time were very disappointed with the food. Probably won't return.
Exquisite 8 course food tasting covering all the bases
our dinner at the painted lady was spectacular, visually, texturally, gastronomically. the evening was perfect and high 5's all around.
A wonderful setting for special occasions. Excellent food and interesting wine pairing.
We were celebrating our anniversary. They surprised us with a special dessert. Every course was a tasty treat. The wine pairing was perfect. The service couldn’t have been better. Thank you!
The Painted Lady should be on any Foodies list. The chefs tasting menu was excellent. Most notable was the beef, seafood soup, and deep fried smoked mushrooms.
Loved the food and service! I felt I got to taste local foods at it's finest.
Enjoyed our evening here!! food and service was excellent! will definitely recommend to our friends and family .
Bday was very nice! The wine paring was the best!
One of our best meals EVER and it was in a small town in Oregon.
Took my husband to the Painted Lady to celebrate his birthday. It was our first time there. There was a set 8-course tasting menu the night we dined there. Each course had something outstanding.
The pace of the service was perfect. Our server was very knowledgeable, especially regarding the wine pairings with dinner. We received quite the education. It was a tad overdone on the formality side but exceptional service nonetheless.
In our reservation, I noted we were celebrating a birthday and that anything they could do to help make the evening special would be appreciated. When we got to the dessert course, there was a candle on his plate - no singing - which we appreciated. Also, they packaged a separate dessert for us to take home as a gift. Very nice and so delicious.
Fantastic food, service and overall experience. One of the finest meals out that I have had.
This is without a doubt one of my two favorite restaurants in the world. The other is in New York City and has comparable quality on all levels. I had four meals with groups of friends this year during my August visit and every one was a treat. The wine list is international and includes the best of the local burgeoning Oregon and Washington vintages. Mark will entertain and educate you and the wines will delight.
All the foods are Northwest sourced, including the Alaskan Halibut and the Snake River Farms Wagyu, prepared with flair, and are a joy to the palate. So many taste sensations in one bite making a harmony that is remarkable. Don't miss this experience! The tables do fill up but I was able to get early seating times and work with them. For larger groups, like 10 or more, they have private rooms upstairs. I had one group upstairs and the service was as good or better than in the main dinning area. BTW. As intimate as the main room seems to be, I never overheard a single word of conversation at a neighboring table. And we had so many good conversations these dinners will be lifelong memories for all of us.
The staff is all professional. This place runs like a machine. They serve a tasting menu. Everyone gets the same courses, subject to allergy and other restrictions that they will ask about. The food arrives and the plates are later removed seemingly without effort. There is a slight pause while they introduce each course; you will want to hear this and they make it short and informative. Everyone knows what to do and when to do it. I was very impressed. This is a Restaurant that knows what it is about and does it flawlessly. This level of service is rare and a treat that is worth the effort to get here to experience.
This is definitely my "go to" restaurant whenever I'm anywhere near Portland, which means any August
for the foreseeable future. Eight courses sounds like too much, but by the end you will be pleasantly
satisfied, not stuffed.
Hard to find the right words to describe how wonderful our dining experience was. A true feast for all of the senses.
Every dish is like a piece of artwork! 8 course dinner, absolutely delicious! And the service was top notch, wonderful guy from Dublin. Highly recommend to anyone coming to this area, it’s a one of a kind dinner!
The only thing we didn't like was the music ! Choice of "style" was NOT appropriate to the ambiance .
We would have enjoyed chamber music or slow jazz ! sounded like something in a bar ! Otherwise , LOVED the experience !
We recently enjoyed a delicious and delightful dual birthday celebration at the Painted Lady. We annually join a couple of dear friends to find special dining experiences on our birthdays. And, The Painted Lady definitely fit the bill. The service (professional but not stuffy), food and ambiance were all excellent. We’ve already spread the word and will continue to do so.
The food was amazing but the supercilious attitude of our wait person really detracted from our experience. It seemed that when he realized we weren't going for the wine pairings and all the extras, he really lost interest in making our experience a good one. I observed other wait staff who were much more down to earth and friendly. This guy clearly thought we were the dregs of society who had somehow maneuvered our way into his very fancy restaurant. Also--$110 for a tasting menu and $90 for the wine pairings seemed a bit overpriced to me, especially when we had had the tasting menu and the wine pairings 2 years ago for literally half the price. I won't be back any time soon.
wonderful experience (again). great service. fabulously creative menu.
Absolutely top class - delicious food, as well as friendly and attentive service. The wine pairing was also excellent. By far the best restaurant we visited in Oregon.
We went for our 50th wedding anniversary dinner. In addition to outstanding food and service, the restaurant received and displayed roses sent by my husband on a special flower stand at our table. When dinner was over, the host emptied the vase and wrapped the flowers for our journey home. Every attendant wished us "happy anniversary", and took time to chat with us in addition to attentive serving. The chef prepared a special anniversary dessert treat. The elegance of the food, the comfort of the surroundings, and the personal service made our special evening even more so. A memorable evening.
Came here for our wedding anniversary. It was one of the best meals I have ever had! I am so glad that we went and experienced this amazing place. The service was excellent as well as the food. It was more than enough of a meal contrary to some that complain that there isn't enough. Slow down, take small bite, and enjoy the flavors, It is an experience like nothing else. Everything I ate, each course, was spectacular. You must go once in your life. The price is high, nearly $400 for two of us including our wine, but it was worth every penny! If there is anything making you hold off on going, disregard. You will not be disappointed.
This was our first time and we loved the entire experience. We chose to include the Wine Pairing (and would strongly recommend this option to others). Every one of the eight courses was a joy to experience. Absolutely a high-end experience that we will do again.
Very quaint and intimate setting. Service was robotic, lacking the personal interaction and warmth that we are accustomed to in the Southeast US (Charleston). In spite of the requisite 8 course dinner that drew out service - it was over 2 hours - we felt rushed, with plates being whisked way the minute we finished the course.
The courses were inconsistent....some were outstanding with prep creativity highlighting ingredients perfectly (tomato salad, miso soup, halibut); others were good but with the ingredients or the creativity in disconnect (Gnocchi, Wagyu Beef) . The desserts were just ok, the weak link even though they seemed to be the easiest to execute. With some dishes, I think that the chef was trying to do "too much"....too weird, too fancy, too hip, too diverse. Go to a 5 or 6 course menu and focus on creative excellence that obviously exists in the kitchen, that's my recommendation. Do them all well and you can still command the same royal price. And get a wait staff that actually makes your customers feel like they are special, welcoming and interested in the diner. I think this is close to a top shelf restaurant but still has work to do.
Very special dinner - not one complaint
Service was outstanding and food was the best I have had at a restaurant in Oregon.
Highly recommend and we will be back
Was all that I expected and more!
Little on the pricey side but awesome food and amazing service.
Truly enjoyed our tasting adventure at The Painted Lady. Understand the meal is pricey and you should absolutely spring for the wine pairings, but a great dining experience. Only possible critiques were that they served each course quickly, granted it was a still two hours, but did feel a slight sense of urgency to the evening vs. being relaxing. Also didn't love the first two courses, but the rest were phenomenal. A must do splurge night while in Newberg.
Great as usual
We had a great time. The food was spectacular, and the air conditioning was very nice on a very warm day. The staff were extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings being served, and the house is very charming. They made my birthday very special. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion!
Every coarse was executed perfectly. The food was explained thoroughly and tasted amazing! The wine pairing a bit pricey.
The food was amazing and the chef went above and beyond to accommodate allergy issues for one of our party. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful, particularly when it came to the wine list. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion.
Simply outstanding! While I normally eschew tasting menus, this eight course meal was outstanding
in every sense. The wine list was extensive but the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful in picking the
right wine for our meal. You may also opt for a wine pairing with your meal. We were told that one or two items on the menu change nightly so I will not go into the specifics of our meal but I will say that
at the end of the night I did not feel over fed. The entire meal covered two hours with the individual courses arriving in a timely manner. The service was efficient so don't expect a lot of conversation. The staff was busy seeing that every table got the same level of attention.
This is the only four star restaurant in the valley and I can see why. I highly recommend Painted Lady.
This is the French Laundry of Willamette Valley.
Birthday’s and anniversary
Amazing service but even better food. The best food experience we have ever had!
Excellent as always! Fourth time here in that past ten years. The Painted Lady has done a great job staying on top of their game. Fantastic tasting menu highlighting the season with flawless execution. Superb service by a warm and knowledgeable staff.
We went to enjoy this experience on our third wedding anniversary and it was the best decision! Every course was perfect, intricate, and delectable. The wine pairing was definitely a must and the service was friendly, professional, and knowledgable. Definitely a treat we will never forget. Thanks for making such a memorable night for us, Painted Lady!
