Contemporary American
Oregon's only AAA four diamond and Forbes four star restaurant, The Painted Lady in Newberg offers a seasonal tasting menu nightly celebrating the products of their local neighbors- Oregon's world class ranchers, farmers and vintners. Inspired by the grand tradition of restoring Victorian homes across America, the restaurant uses classic culinary techniques to create a stunning modern menu. With timeless grace and a contemporary palate, The Painted Lady is more than a restaurant, it is an experience to remember.

Disappointing. We’ve been to the Painted Lady 5-6 other times and have had amazing experiences every other time, which is why this last trip was both disappointing and concerning. There was clearly a lot of thought put into it, but the first 3-4 courses plus canapés (with the exception of the oyster mushroom tempura) lacked salt/acid and tasted flat or boring. One of the canapés was a wagyu on roasted root veggies (so much promise), it was unfortunately under seasoned and had a slimy mouth feel. Sadly, this was a tone setting start. The dashi crab soup was so off putting texturally and also under seasoned that I stopped after 3-4 bites. My dining partner tried mine after enjoying hers and remarked that mine tasted like a different dish entirely. Similarly, the rabbit dish was cluttered. The rabbit was hidden in a green sauce that gave you the impression of your mother’s Chicken Salad, except the rabbit was dry/stringy in texture. Finally, the bison with acorn squash purée and butternut squash brunoise was properly cooked. The meat was wonderfully cooked and seasoned (finally some finishing salt!), but the black garlic and 2 types of squash made everything come out very sweet.

There was one overwhelmingly positive note...the poppy seed dessert was amazing! Finally some acid, seasoning, and a perfectly balanced dish with an amazing wine pairing.

I don’t expect a restaurant to be perfect, wow me with every dish, nor do I intend to pile on, but when they are asking a high $$/person for dinner, I do expect a properly seasoned and balanced dish. I sent multiple plates back to the kitchen with food still on them. I’m saddened by our last visit. Saddened that one of my favorite places to eat and send people has slipped. I do wish the best for them and would love to go back again, assuming the quality returns.

The Painted Lady is quaint and cozy. The food was wonderful and I especially like the format of small flavorful courses. This was our second time dining here, so we knew what to expect. It is s wonderful experience.

As always, everything was superb! The food was divine (The miso custard! The mushrooms!); the service was gracious, warm, and impeccable. The wines perfectly complemented the food (the sommelier remembered the wine we ordered last time and made sure it was on hand—talk about service!) The Painted Lady has set the bar very high for Oregon wine country dining—our local treasure!

I appreciate all the effort that the servers provided us and felt that the food was presented beautifully and cooked properly. My complaint was the lack of flavor. Rarely did any of the meat or vegetables wow . And while I don’t expect wow on a daily basis, I do expect it when I pay $200 per person for food and drink. At that price in Oregon all the dishes should taste amazing.

The Painted Lady is a destination for those that have a desire to be wowed by culinary innovation in flavor, texture, taste and presentation. The service and pacing is impeccable with the backdrop of warm inviting room with ample space between strategically placed tables. Each and every time we dine hear we relish in the fact that this stand-out experience is right in our back yard. The theme for this special Winter Wednesday was the Silk Road. The chefs took all the exotic flavor profiles and ingredients and applied them to locally sourced trout, lamb, duck, handmade noodles in a gentle flavor profile with each course an artistic palette of taste and texture. We look forward to many return visits.

Fabulous dinner as usual! The wait staff are impeccable and the ambiance is very quiet and elegant. The food is always inventive and delicious with beautiful presentations. The menu is always really different each time I have been. Ours had a few Japanese style dishes with a Dungeness crab , mushroom broth that was really exquisite. There was also a rabbit nibble that was fun and of course the beef tenderloin with potatoes was also to die for. Wine list is also wonderful. They have an experimental dinner on Wednesday’s I would like to try some day.

First off my girlfriend and I felt the ambience of the restaurant was top notch, as was the food! I had dined at the Painted lady before, along time ago, but it had been awhile. I new it would cost a lot, but I knew the food would be great and we hadn't been to a nicer place in awhile. Prior to our reservation, I called to see if we could bring a bottle of wine, (that was special to us) and with the outrageous $35 dollar corking fee, I felt it made since to not bring it and purchase wine there. Boy do I wish I had, not only was a glass of Oregon Pinot, in Oregon $30, the cheapest bottle of wine was $55 or $60! I understand that alcohol is a money maker for establishments and they often charge for glass of wine what the bottle costs, but I couldn't help feeling like I was ripped off. Many of the bottles were well over $150 dollars! Two adults who drink wine, can easily go through a bottle over the course of a 2.5 hour meal. I'm not sure who their clientele is, but I won't be returning as our bill was higher then nice restaurants I've been to in the Bay area with a higher quality of food. The website also eludes you have a choice between the chef's menu $110/person or a tasting option for $95. This was a $15 per person option that seemed to be decided for us. This review may make me seem cheap, but I did not feel the value was there and as I mentioned, I felt ripped off! Perhaps I'm getting to old to spend this kind of money on dinner, but feeling ripped off is probably not the feeling an owner of a restaurant was a person to feel as they sign for their bill!

As always the service and ambiance are exceptional at the Painted Lady. We love ‘experimental Wednesday’s’ in the winter when the menu is usually a theme and the dishes are all new and, well, experiments. Many of the dishes end up on the permanent menu and all are creative and artfully paired with a wine.

Seems like they're cutting corners. They seem to be going for elegance, and yet no tablecloths or placemats...just a bare table. Also I asked for a sweet wine, and our server hastened to inform me there were no more courses being served. There was still one course remaining. Even if there wasn't, could I have a glass of wine anyway? Weird reaction to a simple request.
