As always our welcome, service and meal were excellent. The wine list is small but diverse, and local/regional spirits pepper the well thought out specialty cocktails list. Maple sea scallops were tender, flavorful and delightfully juxtaposed with slivers of orange and yellow carrot and crispy onions-textures were well balanced and the portion size was perfect. Spring pea soup lightly truffle oiled was smooth, tasty and unexpectedly (but wonderfully) without cream.
We are fans for life and so grateful to be able to enjoy all that Jonathan and his staff bring to us here in this little Western corner of the state.
Another great meal. Never disappointed!!
Our
Favorite family go-to place for a special treat.
The food was certainly decent and well presented, but all four of us came away feeling a little underwhelmed in terms of its creativity and flavor. Admittedly, we're accustomed to more flavorful, ethnic foods, and this was decidedly New England, so what we felt wasn't inspired, others who enjoy more understated seasoning might really appreciate. The price of the meals suggested they would be a bit more imaginative and wowing than we found them to be. For the right diners, the Oxford House would be ideal. For us, though, it was just a little too mainstream--too similar to too many other restaurants in the Mount Washington Valley.
Delicious food!
Our return visit to the Oxford House Inn was no less spectacular than the first visit. Once again we were made to feel right at home in this comfy, welcoming space. The freezing temperatures outside were banished by the warmth of an open fire in the receiving room. Service was again impeccable - professional, friendly, helpful and attentive. Even though it had been a year, our waitress remembered us and treated us like royalty. The food was incredible - we decided to start with the Winter Board featuring a beautiful Camembert flanked by house-made rillette and pickled onion jam. We were a bit unimaginative since we all had the Grilled Filet Mignon, served with cheddar smashed fingerling potatoes and garlicky kale, topped with an amazing Bearnaise. The meat was superb, cooked perfectly and infinitely tender. We wrapped up with a trio of desserts - the Meyer Lemon Budino, Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee and the Dark Chocolate Molten Cake. The sweets were each magnificent and a perfect ending to a glorious meal. We did start with a pair of very well-made craft cocktails - the Maple Manhattan and the Classic Margarita and had a lovely bottle of South African wine made by a native of Freiburg, ME, where the Oxford House is located. Truly another memorable experience and one that will have us coming back again and again.
We always enjoy the Oxford House. We are locals and it is wonderful to have such a restaurant 10 minutes from out house.
Best mussels I have ever had - by a long shot. Wait staff was extremely professional, and service was fantastic. Value for money was also very high!
Second year we went for New Years Eve dinner and it didn't disappoint! Serving some unique dishes in a very comfortable atmosphere with excellent and friendly service.
This is our absolute favorite go to for date night--made all the more special by celebrating New Year's eve with friends on this particular visit. The prixe fixe menu was delectable with choices capturing local delicacies (Maine salmon and beets) to staple holiday dining (filet mignon with Bernaise) and everything in between. Perfectly portioned so the 5 courses did not overly fill anyone but rather left all completely satiated. Chef Jonathan's mastery of food pairings make the most basic ingredients divine and all without trying to hard-he has the art of presenting fine food with simplicity and style.
We have only been there for dinner. Excellent food. Bread to die for. Most excellent salad I ever had. Fennel sausage bites, smokehouse almonds, Bermuda onion, clementines, with orange balsamic vinegar. We were never rushed. We had lots of time to enjoy wine and talk, as the full dining room was not noisy. This was the second time there. Previously we visited in summer with the fantastic view of Mt Washington. This time we were there in winter with the fireplace going. There is a private residential school in the town and it is near summer and winter activities so a reservation is a good idea. Nice wine list.
Every time we eat here we have an outstanding experience whether it is a burger, the best around, or one of their many creative and more elevated dishes. We love it as there is a simple everyday menu as well as a fine dining elevated menu that updates regularly. Always an awesome night of dining!
We have never been disappointed having dinner at The Oxford house inn. It has become an annual event at thanksgiving.
From handcrafted cocktails to the creative entrees to the delicious desserts, the experience is always a pleasure. The waitstaff is very attentive to your needs. Love this place!
This was our second visit to the Inn. Our dining experience was excellent yet again. The ambiance, food presentation and service were top-notch. Best dining experience of the year. Will be booking again in December.
Phenomenal experience again at The Oxford House Inn. We dined here two evening during our vacation and we were not disappointed. The flavor combinations were delightful and gave us many ideas to try to replicate in our own kitchens. Thanks to all of the folks who make this restaurant such a wonderful place.
The food was delicious and nice ambience. The Inn was very quiant with beautiful details. Service was top notch.
Amazing food, cocktails...we just love it there!
From the bar drinks to salads to main course, everything was excellent, including the service!
We were celebrating a friends birthday. The evening was fabulous! Our server Jaylen did a great job. Never had a bad meal....love the Oxford House!
EXCELLENT as always! A go to place for us when ever we’re in the area. The ever changing drink menu is phenomenal and the food is always perfect. Staff is wonderful as well. We dined in the basement bar area for the first time, usually up stairs. It was nice and cozy and a more relaxed space. Thanks for a great visit! Look forward to seeing you again soon!
I wish I could give 6 stars. The food is incredible and everyone is warm and professional.
Excellent atmosphere, great service, outstanding food. Highly recommended for a nice dinner in Fryeburg
The Oxford House is our favorite restaurant in the Valley and has been for many years. The food is consistently well prepared and delicious. The views from the back dining room are spectacular in the summer and the downstairs pub is so cozy in the winter. The menu changes on a regular basis but luckily my favorite hoisin pulled duck has never gone away. It's wonderful!!
Phenomenal, per usual!
Excellent as always! Creative mix of new menu items with perennial favorites. Clare is great!
It was a delight once again. We went last Saturday to bring our friends to show them the best restaurant in Northern New Hampshire/ Western Maine. We are from Montreal and consider this restaurant comparable to some of our best. Jaylen, our waiter, was excellent and wish him well in his future endeavors. We will be back as soon as we can.
Had a fairly large group in town for an important business dinner, and the restaurant with which we had originally made plans backed out on us last minute. When numerous area establishments were not willing to help us, the Oxford House Inn went above and beyond. Even when OpenTable didn't show the time we wanted, the staff moved things around not only to accommodate our large group on the night we needed, but even to accommodate our preferred time.
The food and the service were fantastic. I would definitely return and recommend to others.
We stayed overnight after dinner and loved the entire experience. The house is stunning, a John Calvin Stevens Arts and Crafts design with original features which adds to the ambience. The bar was a great place for a pre-dinner drink, and all the dining rooms are classic! If one eats on the porch there is a majestic view of the New Hampshire white mountains. The food was wonderfully presented and the wait staff superbly trained. Can't wait to go back!
This was our second visit to the Oxford Inn for dinner. The food, service, and atmosphere are fantastic. We enjoyed it so much that we are heading there for a second night this week.
We stopped by for our 30th Anniversary! Everything was outstanding ! We would highly recommend this restaurant and plan on stopping by again.
I love this place. Never lets me down. Menu changes with the seasons and there is always too many things I want to order. The specialty drinks are great too. Can’t wait for my next trip north.
The Oxford House is a really nice restaurant and B&B. My wife have really enjoyed both the formal restaurant on the main floor, and in the past the more informal grill in the basement. Food excellent and unique, and staff very nice.
We had dinner two nights in a row and were wowed with the view, the service, and everything we ordered! From excellent cocktails to mouthwatering entrees to delectable desserts, we enjoyed every bite, and will most definitely return the next time we are in the area!
This is the place our family always chooses for celebrations, but it's also my favorite place to take myself out for a relaxing, wonderful meal, where the menu is interesting, seasonal, and locally sourced, the views are gorgeous, and the service is thoughtful. Our favorite wait-person is one of the very best I've ever encountered.
We had an absolutely delicious dinner at Oxford House. Our server was very personable and attentive. We were on vacation and didn't have hotel reservations for that night. Their Inn was full, but the hostess made some calls and found a place in town for us to stay. We thought that was above and beyond!
Outstanding service, beautiful evening view from the porch,
all four courses were delicious, waitress exceptionally
punctual and attentive...
Always a wonderful time, great food and drink. Bistro meals are well priced!
We've been here numerous times, both for special occasions and for upscale, fine dining. We've never been disappointed. My entree, lobster & seafood "fruit de mare" was delicious (They call it something else). Service is friendly & professional. The Oxford House Inn remains among the top fine dining restaurants in the Valley. The Bar/restaurant downstairs is a lively alternative to the dining rooms upstairs. The back room provides a scenic view of the White Mountains & Meadows. The front porch enables comfortable out-door, screened-in, dining with a round-top or two, during good weather, while the several in-door, dining rooms provide a fine-dining atmosphere.
I have eaten at the Oxford House several times over the last few years. It is always flawless and exquisite.
