The Owl at Twilight
Food was very good. Other than that, one of the LOOOOONGGEEST dinner experiences ever. We arrived 10 minutes early and were told that one of their servers was stuck in traffic - "but you're ten minutes early anyway". Couldn't be seated for about 20 minutes. No offer to be seated and enjoy drinks while we waited nor an invitation to sit at the small bar. We had to ask if it was OK and then we were told we would have to wait to order drinks because he was making drinks for someone else at the moment. It just went downhill from there. Was chastised for the seat I chose as the owner wanted me to sit at the seat he pulled out for me. (He did this to other guests later in the evening, as well.) Took ten minutes to get our first drink and was close to an hour and 45 minutes before our food was delivered. Didn't stay for dessert because we would have been there until midnight! AND - there were five empty tables in the room we were in - Server was fine; our guess is the kitchen couldn't keep up. Two tables that had been seated when we came in didn't get their dinners for a good hour after we arrived. Maybe it was just a bad night - but it definitely was a bad night.
I offered them spots at the bar or on the outside porch but they declined. I could not seat them as table was not ready. I told them I could get their drink order just as soon as I finished making other guests drinks. I can only make so many drinks. I'm not sure why she was upset as I always pull the chair out for the ladies. Maybe she is not used to that. It was a very busy Saturday and we did our best. We are a slower paced restaurant not like others and maybe this person didn't know that.
All four at our table were extremely pleased with their meals. Very good all around dining experience in a rural setting. Friendly, pleasant atmosphere with a nice wait staff.
Love the live music! This is one of the few fine dining restaurants in the Adirondacks and it’s consistently good. Not a large place, but it gets packed with folks from all over. We prefer to sit on the screen patio and the classic Adirondack furnishings. Highly recommended!!!
We enjoyed our meals. Owner helped wait table due to waitstaff being busy. Local cheese with bread was nice addition.
Always an enjoyable evening. Check their site for live entertainment. Dinner apps and entrees are excellent and presentation is wonderful.
Creative cocktails and an extensive wine selection. Be sure to ask for a table on the porch.
Best food in a range of 50 miles. The proprietor, who handles seating and the bar, has an occasional poor night. We’ve had a number of wonderful meals here and sadly one that was bad enough of an experience that we won’t go back.
Food was fabulous and just the right portion. We enjoyed everything!
My husband and I made our yearly visit to The Owl at Twilight in Olmstedville, NY and once again, we were very pleased. The service (Anna) and the food was wonderful. We tried the grilled calamari appetizer, which was very tasty and tender. I had the almond encrusted salmon, which was a special and the portion was generous. It was served with arugula salad with mandarin oranges and grape tomatoes with a balsamic reduction. My husband enjoyed the chicken breast stuffed with spinach and sun dried tomato. If you like red wine, I would recommend the Nero d’Avola. We didn’t get dessert this time, but you should try the key lime pie.
Absolutely wonderful meal. The scallops appetizer was amazing as was the salmon special. My husband loved the duck special. Our favorite dessert of key lime pie was well enjoyed.
Thank you Mark and Dennis for a great meal
Couldn’t wait to get back to The Owl this summer. This little place never disappoints. They always have menu items that you don’t see as everyone it The Adirondacks serves the same boring items. The grilled Calamari was so tender and the shaved kale and Brussel Sprout salad delicious. Authentic Maryland Crab cake and New York strip steak were great. All desserts and ice creams made in house. Fun drinks too!
We loved it! We are making it our Anniversary place from now on! Food was amazing, staff and owner were friendly and caring! I can still taste the beignets , better than New Orleans!!!
See you in June, Mark!
Outstanding food. Pricy, but you get what you pay for!
We had a very nice dinner. Food was great. Server was somewhat spacey. Atmosphere is always nice.
It's a rare restaurant that is so consistently outstanding in every regard. From the owner (Mark) to the staff to the ambiance, the food, the drinks, etc it's located in a beautiful section of the Adirondacks with both indoor and patio dining - we usually do the patio with the authentic Adirondack furnishings. The food is always spectacular with attention to every detail. Definitely worth the drive!
Had a wonderful dinner on the patio. We love the Owl and will definitely be back when they reopen next season.
They were short staffed, had an untrained bartender, who wound up being our waitress, who was not trained well as a waitress either. After numerous attempts to dine here, we were all disappointed. Probably will not try again.
We have enjoyed two delicious dinners in the past 6 weeks at The Owl. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the service was good. The host was friendly and accommodating. It is well worth the ride to plan a visit!
We live in the area and go as often as we can to The Owl at Twilight. We came tonight because Gerd Rube was singing and it was fabulous. He was personable and great singer and songwriter. The cozy atmosphere made it feel like a private concert. The food of course was delicious. We started with the wild mushrooms and caprese salad; my husband had the skirt steak, and I had the pork tenderloin, we both cleaned our plates. They had a special Tiramisu so we shared that for dessert, while he sipped a McCallen's 12 and we listened to the great music.
Great food! One of the few places in the area where the price is justified by the quality of the food and uniqueness of the flavors.
Excellent food, outstanding service, everything one could want for a great night and a better dinner.
My husband and I very much enjoyed the food which was very well prepared and presented. Our server was new and was missing most of the time we were there.
A gem of a place in an out of the way corner of the Adirondacks. Friendly, unpretentious, attentive service (including stops at our table by the owner), great view on the back porch. Highly recommended, we shall return.
Excellent quality of food and the ambiance is warm and inviting. The service was quite slow and we had to ask for bread at least 3 times before receiving any. However the right company and atmosphere and great food helped to offset the less than stellar service.
Wonderful people Great Great Food exceptional dinner experience etc etc etc
The food was delicious and presented very nicely. It is well worth a drive to be there.
Still the best in the Adirondacks - there's a lot of good restaurants in the ADKs and the number is growing, but Owl is still our favorite. The food and drinks are beyond compare, a very special place to dine
A bit out of the way but worth the drive. Quaint setting. The food was delicious
Sat on the porch on a summer night. Very relaxing and very friendly and helpful service.
Every thing was great. So good we returned 2 days latter.
We had a delicious meal with excellent service
My entree was $1 more on Bill than on menu
The honey vanilla ice cream was superb
We will be back!
Great place, only open in the summertime. We sat on a screened in porch with three other tables. They provide blankets on the back of the chair in case there is a chill. Owner greeted us with a smile. Service was fine until the second glass of wine which came slowly, about halfway through our entrees. I ordered Boca Chica tacos which were a disappointment-- confusion upfront about what kind of fish was being served. When it arrived it looked like straight up fish sticks from a box. Tiny piece of fish and a lot of breading. Not much flavor. Scallop appetizer was fantastic, salads delicious. Key lime pie was terrific. I'll go back.
Our favorite place when we are on vacation at lake George
Especially enjoyed being seated in the screened-in room at the back, complete with lap blankets if the evening turned chilly! Quaint and pleasant!
Our meal was delicious. I had the Potato encrusted Salmon and my husband had the Chicken Ravello. We both had the mussels appetizer. I had a glass of Nero D'Avola which is my favorite red wine. Anna gave us spectacular service and we enjoyed chatting with Mark, the owner. We make it a point to dine here every summer and we are never disappointed.
Remote but excellent restaurant - casual, but great food, friendly staff. Best food in the area by far.
A party of five looking for a good food experience in NYs Adirondacks after a full day of white water rafting on the nearby Hudson and Indian Rivers. And, we found it. Everything was delicious and a great treat. A real gem in the middle of the State's "Forever Wild."
Great updated menu. Some old favorites and many new things to try. Service and food were, as always, superb.
What a delightful experience! This is a gem of a restaurant tucked away in a peaceful setting. We sat out on the lovely screen porch and enjoyed a delicious meal, all courses were expertly prepared. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice wine selection. The seafood stew was the best we've ever had. We will certainly visit again on our next trip up to the area.
Always a pleasant dining experience. They are consistently worth the several minutes extra drive.
