The Oven - East
Boneless chicken marinated in yogurt and fresh ground spices then cooked in the tandoor and served on rice.
A traditional Indian soup of pureed lentils, flavored with spices and garnished with rice and fresh cilantro.
Seasonal vegetables and paneer cheese cooked in our spicy coconut milk based sauce.
Great! Service was prompt and professional. Our food was very good.
Best food of all the oven locations. Just as it tasted in the 90’s.
Excellent food, staff and atmosphere
The service was incredibly slow. Our waiter rarely came to the table and was rarely seen. We waited for an unreal amount of time before he took our order and then it took forever to get our soup which was Luke warm. Took a long time to get out food which again not hot and the chicken was pretty dry. Then we waited forever to get boxes and our check.
Great corner booth. Carly is a fantastic server!
Always enjoy The Oven during winter months. The Soup is so good! They were not busy the Saturday before Valentine’s Day for lunch but service was very slow. Seemed to be understaffed. Had a wonderful server but seemed slow in the kitchen as she kept apologizing. Food was delicious!
My favorite place to eat in Lincoln. Never disappointed with the food or the service
Always great service and food!😊
The Oven has been a reliable favorite for decades. The warm ambiance and delicious menu options are the best in Lincoln!
My husband and I went out for date night. We always have a great experience at The Oven. We usually go for the Chicken or Lamb Madras but we decided to do the shared plate: Non-Vegetarian Thali. WOW. We were blown away by the variety of items and it was the perfect amount of food. We love Naan so we ordered extra and left there full & satisfied. Our server was patient with us, we were chatting up some other diners that night, and she took time to explain what each item was on the Thali plate when she delivered it to our table. She even made recommendations for the next time we come back. One of my favorite restaurants in Lincoln.
We love this place
I love their food, their drink list and being able to sit outside!
We dined on a Friday evening. They have a large dining room plus patio seating so are able to seat a lot of people with social distancing. Menu, including wine and alcohol, is extensive and flavors are good. We were disappointed that our server did not ask about our preference for spice level, as is common in other Indian restaurants. Our only complaint was that the rice seemed somewhat dry, but maybe that was a fluke, however that alone would keep us from going back if that is the standard.
Service was a bit slower than usual. It appeared you were short-staffed. Excellent otherwise.
Always fantastic food and good service!
Food was delicious and just the right amount of spice. Atmosphere was perfect for a nice family meal. Did not feel rushed or like the service was slow. Could not have asked for a better first meal out since the start of COVID-19.
I always enjoy the food and service at The Oven - East. Today's meal was really up a notch!
Bench seating along the wall gets a little crowded.
Dinner was delicious
We usually go to the Oven in the Haymarket and it's our by far our favorite restraunat.. But don't want to go there too often so now we have yours to alter with. The only problem was all the carry outs was a little bit of a distraction but can live with that.
Both service and ambiance at this location has spiraled downhill in the last year. Phones constantly ring off hook with no staff answering them and it really disturbs ambiance. We were ignored once inside door and then a “hold on” as our initial greeting from 1 of 2 female hostesses (?) as they continued doing whatever else was more important at the time this past Sunday evening. Our server Dillon was friendly and redeemed our evening and this review.
Even though the staff was swamped, they did an amazing job making sure that we had an enjoyable experience!!!
In a city with few choices for Indian food, the Oven on 70th Street is a fine choice... for those who can afford it. The vegetarian options were well prepared, even during the dinner rush. You can tell the chefs care about what they serve. The vibe is a bit helter-skelter on a Friday night, and they could have used another server or helper to keep the flow going, but the staff that was there did an admirable job. It was the weekend after New Year's Eve, so it might be they were short-staffed. I think the tension I experienced while dining is the dichotomy that they present the restaurant as a finer dining establishment, but the closeness of tables, the fact that parents see it as a safe place to bring preschoolers and toddlers to eat, and then the total bill made me confused. Is it just an overpriced family restaurant? Or are the customers mainly the high-end professionals of Lincoln's Southeast Side for whom spending a lot of dinners is not a concern? I don't know that answer, but I do know food and staff were solid. If you have a strong flow of simoleans into your bank account, and if you don't mind the crossing of a wine list with toddlers, then you can ignore my other concerns. XXOO, Indira Gandhi
Warms the stomach & the soul . Reasonably priced Indian soul food .
Food good, but not enough servers to take care of diners. Only 2 servers so a long wait for food. Second time we have experienced that and will not return.
Comfortable setting. Great, flavorful food, and excellent service. We will definitely go back.
We kinda got forgotten about for a bit due to confusion over who was waiting our table but our server was awesome and the food was delicious. The food warms the stomach & soul . Love this place .
Just as yummy as the downtown location without the hassle of going downtown.
Very good food, waiter was excellent and very attentive. Ambiance was quite lovely and would highly recommend.
The food is amazing here. Period. Unfortunately, the phone rang nonstop and it appeared was not being answered. Service was subpar but the food makes up for that. It was disheartening to hear the phone ring during our entire meal with a full house and disrupted the nice meal we hoped for. Our server appeared disinterested. It’s OK, as I said, we will return again and again for the food. We travel from Omaha frequently to dine at both locations of The Oven in Lincoln. Thank you!
Really poor service. Wasn’t even full and it took more than 2 hours to get in and out. Multiple other tables came and went while we were still waiting. Slow and poor communication and service.
Sat 2 hours. Many delays. Take out orders seem to be the priority.
We made a reservation because we had a visitor from out of town and it was a busy night in Lincoln due to a game weekend. Perfect that we were able to get right in and we had wonderful service and the food was outstanding!
So many menu choices--want to try something new next time. Everything I have had in my trips to this restaurant has been good. No complaints.
An extra special family dinner (two birthdays) - Oven staff were helpful in every way. Server was attentive and courteous, meal was served expertly and promptly. We had a great experience - as we always do. This is our favorite restaurant. We've never been disappointed.
Accommodated our large group nicely and the service and food were both outstanding!
Booked on app and was confirmed only to show up to a sign saying they were closed for the day of our appointment and the following day. It was truly disappointing that management didn’t have the foresight to close reservations in advance or let those who had booked know before they went.
We had a late lunch on a Saturday so naturally, the restaurant was fairly quiet. On weekend evenings it gets pretty loud here, though not as deafening as some Lincoln restaurants (like MoMo, for example). The food is consistently good, service is generally friendly and efficient, and the ambiance is nice overall.
Ate outside so sometimes service can lack when you aren’t on the servers’ way to someone else. I don’t know if it was a new team but food and drinks took a very long time. Food was delicious and servers were very friendly, but would rather have not been there for 2 hours.
Good food as usual. The naan was burned though.
Service was a 3, did not evet check back. I had to flag him down a couple times and it was even slow, right at opening.
He was pleasant and knowledgeable though.
