The Only on King Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is closed. We did not realise until we got to the restaurant for our reservation but apparently they closed the Sunday prior so we had to make last minute arrangements. You should this restaurant from your reservation app to avoid more disappointed customers.
The restaurant called us in the afternoon to tell us that they couldn't accommodate our party of 6 for that night even though it had been confirmed the previous week. I had to try to find another restaurant that would accommodate us and contact everyone to let them know of the change.
After dining at TOOK a couple nights ago I wanted to tell anyone and everyone who would listen about our experience! The server was friendly and personable, the atmosphere was cozy and warm, the food was delicious - hands down the best restaurant experience I have had in quite some time! Thank you for your hospitality. We will be back, and I know I will be ordering the duck & the chocolate nemisis again - to die for! Delicious!
This was our second visit after a number of years. Reservation was handled very efficiently and we were seated with no fuss. Our waiter was very attentive but gave us our space and the pace of delivery was perfect. We both enjoyed the beer and cheese soup and then our main course. I had the flat iron steak which was cooked as requested and my partner had the vegetable salad. Overall a very pleasing meal for a reasonable price.
Went before the theatre as a treat for my mom. The food was delicious and plated beautifully, the Harvest Moon is a cocktail worth trying, and the wine list is short but excellent. I ordered a glass of wine after my cocktail but didn't have the menu in front of me; I thought I had seen a South American wine but couldn't remember what it was. I asked for a Malbec, and my server said they didn't have one, so I ordered a Shiraz. Moments later, our server returned and mentioned that they had a Carménère if I preferred (which I did), and I was very impressed that she thought to take a look and make sure I was getting the right alternative.
The food here is delicious and the service was friendly and casual. There were not a lot of gluten free options but they were able to accommodate us. The place is small and fairly casual and we were enjoying a nice quiet conversation until a large party arrived who were very loud and dominant. At first we were seated at a table that had air conditioning blasting but the server moved us and said that they would turn up the heat a bit. Overall, one of the best restaurants I have been to in London.
One of our favourite places! This is a place where they truly know how to cook good food. The service is professional but relaxed. The food is like no other place and you can tell that it is local, fresh and from a true chef. We recommend the Only to everyone and have been for the past 6 years. You will pay the same price at other restaurants but there is absolutely no comparison to the quality of food. The owner, Paul is also a super great guy. Very friendly, down to earth and works very hard to keep this place running as beautifully as it is. We will be back soon.
Small menu but everything on it is exceptional in execution, presentation and flavour. Contemporary and lively atmosphere keeps this casual as a bistro or gastro-pub experience. Will definitely be back. Hope the menu changes every few months to keep it interesting.
Food was really nice but I was hoping the menu would be a bit more original. None of the entrees were that attractive or different from other places in town, and the menu of that night was not as given online. The snacks are a bit basic and pricey for what they are.
My sisters and mom were looking for a place to eat. My sister said she was dying to try TOOK because she was following you on Instagram and wanted to try everything you posted. Our waiter was awesome. He made us very comfortable and was always there when we needed something. Each of us loved our dish and each other's dish as well. We were blown away!!
We will definitely be back.
I'm still thinking about that vegetable salad - amazing! I am careful about what I eat and often struggle to find a clean restaurant meal. The man taking care of us at TOOK was fabulous - didn't make me feel bad or crazy about my requests and my meal came out perfectly. The entrees are a little small, and that's coming from someone who is pretty vigilant about portion size, but just order an app and an entree and you won't be disappointed. The timing was great, slow enough to not feel rushed but quick enough to not feel ignored. What a great spot. I'll be back again soon.
I attended The Only for a special occasion. There was no wait upon entering the restaurant, and we were taken care of immediately. Every staff working was friendly and welcoming, which always lends to strong anticipation for a meal.
Our server was engaging, attentive and gave detailed recommendations as per our taste.
The ambiance itself is modern and cozy, lending to the overall brand very well.
Our food and cocktails were utterly amazing. We were able to share both plates ordered, and neither disappointed.
Lastly, the kitchen staff was extremely handsome .
I went there for a dish involving meat, although I had to return the meat to be cooked again because it was very raw for me to eat it, when my dish finally returned the veggies that came with the meat where ruined and the meat still raw. I could not eat the meat at all. The solution offered by the waitress was send the meat for a second time to the kitchen again. I refused because by that time my friends finished their plates and I just ate the dry and now roasted veggies. So I had to waste all the meat and my money. Do not eat meat there. Other than that that place is OK .
Very good service, very pleasant, quiet ambiance. Food was not outstanding, unfortunately: used to be much better. Choice extremely limited if one doesn't like fusion (soy sauce is not my thing). Wines: the Pino Grigio wasn't very interesting, but the Australian Shiraz was excellent.
May go back but am not going to rush.
The Only has a relaxed atmosphere. We happened to go to dinner around their anniversary weekend and could not resist the blackboard dishes. The asparagus soup with a poached egg was delicious and suitable for vegan or vegetarian. We both had the gnocchi with meatballs - 3 meat in a fresh tomato sauce with a dollop of ricotta. Friendly and helpful service. We were struggling with picking a wine, described what we liked and our server picked the perfect bottle. I am looking forward to returning soon.
This restaurant used to be such a gem. An oasis of farm to table food which was creative and well done. In its latest iteration it has slid dramatically, creating dishes that could well be seen on menus at National chains. It's very sad. The service remains at its usual high level however this does not overcome the sad state of the menu.
