Indulge yourself in soups, sandwiches and salads at The Oliver Wight Tavern. This restaurant serves up American classics and drinks in laid-back surrounds. Located at the entrance of the Old Sturbridge Village, The Oliver Wight Tavern is a popular pick for tourists and museum visitors. Sundays launch with a lavish breakfast buffet packed with made-to-order omelets, sausages, waffles, salads and bacon. The brunch menu also comes with a sumptuous spread of dessert, with coffee, tea, soft drinks and juice.
The Oliver Wight Tavern is open Saturday and Sundays. It is located within an hours drive of Boston, Hartford and Providence, which makes it a nice pick for weddings and social events.
I will write this review and concentrate on one specific time and on the dining portion of the tavern and not the pub version. My wife, our older son, and my four-year-old granddaughter. This was a Friday afternoon and they were offering a buffet for $12.95 and $7.95 for children. Here are the offerings they had: A mixed green salad, one pasta dish, mac and cheese, potato salad and roasted chicken. That was it. No other options. No fish, beef, pork or even road kill from I-84.
My granddaughter simply had some mac and cheese and pasta. I passed since this was a disgraceful value option that is quite possibly on the very bottom rung of any buffet I have ever seen. The food itself was quite ordinary as reported by the others in our party. The dessert tray offered was what can best be described as commercial leftovers. To charge such a price is just visitor robbery.
The service was no problem, but the wait time was excessive – we were told 30 minutes and it became 50 minutes. Just looking at the dining area with half the tables empty while people waited is a management staffing issue.
There are other dining options at Sturbridge Village, but my suggestion would be to go about one mile to the Publik House.
We found this spot on OpenTable and it was an excellent choice. Very nice atmosphere and wide selection of food make this a very good brunch option. Service was attentive and friendly
The brunch comes with coffee, tea, or milk for $20
The food waste extremely good the waiter was prompt and courteous the setting was wonderful. We are already make plans to go again with a larger group.
Best brunch around. Choice selection of food at a great price. Food always fresh and service is always great. Atmosphere is very home like.
We had a recent family reunion here. The restaurant was empty at the time which was perfect for many family members
talking ! The food was very fresh and ample in size portions. We really enjoyed our time there.
We met our travel group in Sturbridge which is centrally located for our Ma, NH and CT friends. It was a great place to chat, take a picture in front of the fireplace and meet and greet in the large foyer. My only complaint would be a need for eye-appealing desserts. The food was fresh and good, the price reasonable and the service by Shane, outstanding.
We met for a birthday celebration. It was a little difficult to visit in the main room as the noise level is higher then the smaller room. The food was delicious. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. This is a great place to eat. Bring your own tea bag if you want caffeine. Only have de-caffinated tea bags which is a little strange.
The ham is fabulous!!
I brunched here with several friends. We all agreed it was a good experience. The service was great and food was good. We were able to spend much time visiting which was great since it had been many years since some of us had seen each other. We all had a great time and would definitely return for more.
Went for Brunch, food was good, but not a large selection of lunch food. Reasonably priced, but drink were expensive.
