The Olde Bar
The Olde Bar, located in Philadelphia’s landmark Old Original Bookbinder’s, is a contemporary oyster bar and cocktail lounge steeped in the city’s nautical and culinary traditions. Serving oysters on the half shell, alongside a smart menu of modern re-imaginings of traditional bar snacks and a comprehensive cocktail and spirit list, The Olde Bar is at once a tribute to the city’s storied past and an updated version of one of our most beloved dining spaces.

Very enjoyable experience. Interesting a delicious menu. Good cocktails and extensive choices for drinks. I liked how they keep an old fashioned ambience with updated touches. Service was excellent once we got past a minor issue in the beginning of the meal. The way the restaurant is det up each table has some privacy which also helps the noise level a great deal.
The food was great. Sad they didn’t have oysters. Came specifically for the raw bar
Always a pleasant experience when dining
We originally had reservations at 6pm for outdoor dining but got there early and was able to sit inside. The happy hour menu was still in effect which was a pleasant surprise for a Saturday. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the ambience was upscale but relaxed. I decided to try the lobster corn dog and I was not disappointed.
Happy hour had good deals. Bread was a bit hard and stale.
Olde bar has Good vibes and a great happy hour!!!!
Some of the freshest seafood in the country. Expert staff and warm atmosphere make for a phenomenal unpretentious evening. The seafood tower is a must for every visit.
Excellent happy hour. Best oysters in town, always fresh and plump.
The best happy hour in the city! Incredible cocktails, buck-a-shuck oysters and bar snacks like crab fingers and lobster rolls, 5 stars!! Great service and attention to covid protocols. Perfection!
Always amazing, Omar, Stephen and Andrew they are the best love going when they’re controlling the music
We all loved the food. Service was great
We always have a fun time at the Olde Bar! Happy hour is great, delicious snacks and dinner and THANKS SO MUCH for improving the music selection, last time was hard core metal rock and yesterday was a really nice medley of cocktail jazzy music!
Our first time back to The Olde Bar in a few years and it was outstanding as we expected. Food is amazing, great drink selection. We sat outside and that could use a little more ambiance for such a nice place, but otherwise it was a great dinner.
The atmosphere and cocktails are stellar and we had some incredible food too.
I always love the bar area of the Olde Bar and Im so glad to have it near the movie theater. It's the perfect post film reward (since my movie wasn't great, this place redeemed the night!).
I had an incredible Lobster Potpie and my friend had a really delicious crab cake. The drinks and service were perfect.
The food was delicious and the service was even better. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of menu and was always available to our table if we needed anything. This is a great place for everyday dining or a special celebration!
Always love the Olde Bar! Happy hour is fabulous for me and their food makes me always want to go back for more!
We can’t say enough about our five star experience. We found the restaurant on a fluke when searching through Open Table. Had reservations but decided to sit at bar as it looked like
The bartenders were likely and talented. From the first drink to the final dessert our experience was nothing short of exceptional. The food. The service. The music. Impeccable. The bartenders had a wonderful way of describing food on the menu The corn and crab chowder, warm lobster salad, crab stuffed lobster, scallop meal and the strawberry trifle left is feeling so happy :). Go !! You won’t be disappointed
Food is awful
Very expensive lunch and very small portions. Food taste was ok but not amazing. Service was very friendly. We were there at an off time so very few other diners. The space itself is so cool and very covid friendly if you are apprehensive about dining out.
I was so excited to see butter poached lobster roll on the menu. I have had them in other restaurants & the bun is overflowing with lobster meat, to the point you have to use a fork first, to eat the the lobster & then you can pick up the bun. The one at The Old Bar said it was half a lobster, but when I received it, there was not much lobster. It didn’t even stick out of the top of the bun. It definitely was not half a lobster, more just a quarter. Was still hungry when I was finished. Very disappointed.
Bar music was weird, on top of it being loud- not
Food was amazing, nice outdoor dining on a quiet street, service was great
My party enjoyed the experience - from service to food.
The lobster dinners were tasty, but the lobster roll was very overpriced. To top it off, the 9 layer chocolate cake was not a chocolate cake at all - it is a caramel-based cake with a thin chocolate frosting. Definitely misleading, and, frankly, disappointing.
This was my first time having dinner at The Olde Bar - we’ve only ever gone for happy hour - and I’m glad we did! The food was great, as was service, and they were very accommodating with food allergies. The ambiance inside is pretty unique, and it was a great place overall to bring someone not from Philly to enjoy some seafood and cocktails.
The food was excellent! Will be back
The Olde Bar far exceeded our expectations. Food, ambiance, and service were phenomenal!
The ambiance of The Olde Bar is incredible. The food was pretty average for the price point, which was disappointing. The AC seemed to be broken the night we ate there which made it uncomfortable. The service was great.
The food was so fresh and the atmosphere was amazing! Will definitely be back soon! Also, their happy hour is great!
This place is myself and my gf go to!! Stephen is always our waiter we love him and the bartender (don’t know his name) but he recently cut his hair awesome playlist
I love returning to the historic Olde Bar! My favorite is the actual barroom with the high-top tables. Omar the Pirate was an attentive server and the Espresso Martinis, the charred cauliflower, and shrimp cocktails were perfect.
Cocktail and beer list was great. Server was attentive and nice. Food was subpar and very little for the bill. We ordered a tower, three drinks total, a salad, and dessert and it was about $200 before tip. The place was nice with good seating but it was loud and there were kids in the bar. I would only ever go back if I wanted fancy cocktails and wanted to sit at the bar.
Good food good drinks good time
The restaurant was busy and we had to remind the hostess that we were waiting to be seated for our reservation. The server kept forgetting to bring items to our table and our order. The pasta that we requested to remove the speck still had it in the dish. I was surprised by the overall experience since I regularly go here for the great food and drinks. It was my friend's first time and I hope that she would want to go again.
In these Covid times, we must all learn patience even when dining out. Staff is short-handed and many are new to the business.
Nonetheless we decided to dine at The Olde Bar, one of my favorites, on National Oyster Day. After a pretty confusing and longer than usual delay in getting our table, we were seated outside. Our waiter eventually came by and warned us that he had many tables to serve (which I’m glad he did then we knew we had to chill). We ordered 3 dozen oysters and drinks. God bless the manager Beth who got albarino on the menu again! Of course we ordered a bottle. The hubbies got rye Manhattan (his favorite) and a “modern martini.” They were both happy!
We got our oysters before we got the drinks which is unusual. Very good on a warm summer evening!
We then ordered a few apps to share, all of which were good: salmon spread, snapper tartare, Buffalo cauliflower and Olde Bar fries. It was just enough to save room for dessert, which was 9-layer cake, banoffee pie and strawberry trifle.
Maybe we were just used to everything being so efficient before the pandemic, but we ended up spending more than 2 hours eating, drinking and enjoying the weather and each other’s company. It was a pleasure!
Oh, and Beth sent over complimentary sherries to go with the dessert!
Everything was delicious! I enjoyed a Penicillin it’s smoky flavor was amazing. The east coast Oysters were wonderful as was my Crab cake. My dining companions enjoyed their Pink Panthers, Snapper Tartar, Crab and Parpadelli and a yummy slice of cake too!
Great bartender. Took a while to get service at our table once seated. Oysters were excellent. Lobster roll was OK. Seemed a bit pricey for lobster on a stick and french fries. Overall a good experience.
Dining area felt very quiet and private, nice atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was all excellent.
Seafood was good or just average. Star of the food was the buffalo cauliflower which was truly amazing. Cocktails are excellent which was what we had been told.
