The Olde Bar
The Olde Bar, located in Philadelphia’s landmark Old Original Bookbinder’s, is a contemporary oyster bar and cocktail lounge steeped in the city’s nautical and culinary traditions. Serving oysters on the half shell, alongside a smart menu of modern re-imaginings of traditional bar snacks and a comprehensive cocktail and spirit list, The Olde Bar is at once a tribute to the city’s storied past and an updated version of one of our most beloved dining spaces.

A great Father’s Day dinner!
It was great
Went to sit at the bar for a few appetizers and cocktails with my wife. First time here post COVID and it appears the staff is either new or a bit rusty. I think it is likely due to the fact that there are lots of new staff who simply aren't trained fully yet. My only complaint is that we had to keep asking our waitress for the drink we ordered (glass of wine) and that really shouldn't have been a challenge because it wasn't that busy. I hope that they will actually let customers sit at the bar rather than at bar table booths in the bar area, surely easier for us to interact directly with the bartender. Food was great, plentiful and presented well. After I got home I got an email telling me that I had not honored the reservation through Open Table. Kinda strange as we did actually honor it and spent $150 for drinks and a few appetizers. My advice is to just close for a day or two and train your new staff members and we will likely return. Live today well, Pete and Marsha
Great Happy Hour!! Great food and drinks! Love date night!
Been eating there since it was Book binders. Friendly and helpful staffs. 👌
FABULOUS restaurant with dog friendly outside seating. The team was very welcoming and great with recommendations for food and drinks. Decor inside is fantastic. Old school charm in a historical city. Cool bar!
Good dishes and friendly staff
Very nice overall. This is the old historic Bookbinders, I first went there back in like 1987. Haven't been for 20+ years. No more snapper soup ;-( The bar area looks original, the dining rooms have been renovated and a bit too modern for me. Had the raw tower- great!, stuffed lobster, wife had lobster pot pie and our friend had the tuna (not on the online menu). All tasted great, good sides, all seasoned perfect we thought, and the service was good too. It was nice to sit out on the sidewalk near 2nd st.
Food and drinks were delicious yet service was mediocre. I'm pretty sure she forgot about us several times throughout the dinner.
It reminded us of the old bookbinders. Ate in the bar area.
We had such a beautiful dinner at the Olde Bar. Will definitely come back again!
Food and service were very good only issue I have not being from the area the name on the outside of the restaurant is not the olde Barr walked right past the place a couple of times
Awesome every time I go... so in love with their oysters and halibut
Service was terrible and food was fair. It was expensive and don't feel it was worth it'
Sean was very helpful to my out of town friends. We enjoyed our meal and hope to be back soon!!
The happy hour is outstanding! Seriously one of my favorite places. The crab fries! So good
Excellent selection of oysters, great happy hour, and wonderful service.
Great food and drinks and fantastic service in a really cool old spot. The area it's in has been a seafood restaurant under a couple different names since the late 1800's and it adds to the ambiance of the place.
1. Cocktails were good. Amaretto in the whiskey sour was a nice touch. And the paper plane was perfect. Just took really long to make them.
2. Lobster roll barely had any meat in it. A lobster roll should be overflowing with meat, not bread. Flavor was fine.
3. Oysters were dropped off without identifying which oysters were which.
4. Crab cake had good flavor, but the platter should come with a more substantial side dish than a handful of micro greens.
5. I might return for happy hour, but not for a full dinner. Oyster House food is far superior.
6. Server was really nice.
The daily happy hour at The Olde Bar is my favorite. No breaks on drinks, but terrific prices on excellent oysters, fries with crab-meat and cheese, and -- if you crave a real meal -- a great burger. In warm weather, the street is a treat. Make reservations well in advance; it's deservedly popular. Indoors, the bar is cozy.
The chowder was good, but a bit thin/watery for my liking. The crab fries were a smaller portion than expected and for some reason they put all the fondue at the bottom instead of actually smothering the fries, maybe to make them look fancier? The lobster roll was good, but small for the price. The pappardelle was great, no complaints there. The cheesecake and chocolate cake were also amazing. My favorite drink was the Rose Gold, it tasted like a creamsicle!
Happy to report The Olde Bar redeemed themselves exponentially. Food is always phenomenal, but our service during a previous visit was one of the worst we've experienced anywhere. This time, however, the service was spot-on - our server was attentive and conscientious, and even brought over some whiskey bottles for us to read before we ordered a pour. We sat in the bar instead of the dining room and will do this again in the future; the decor is incredible but we enjoyed the people-watching too.
The waitress was totally overwhelmed. Service was awful and outdoor seating is dangerously close to traffic.
Always a great time there. Enjoy the food, friendly staffs and ambient.
Went during restaurant week and everything was great. Our server are so attentive and the food was delicious. Of course, this is a great value for restaurant week and I would go back later. We had the crab fries and TOB Caesar salad, as starters and the lobster roll and The “Burger” as entrees. Everything was delicious. Plan to revisit in the future.
Need more selections
Was looking for more seafood on the menu
We love Olde Bar but tonight just felt like a formula. Everything had been prepped ahead of time and you could tell. The lobster roll in particular fell flat. But it's a lovely spot and the servers are always friendly.
The fries were a little greasy. That's my only critique on the food. Service was amazing. Our waiter was Omar and he was AMAZING, helpful and genuinely nice.
Yesterday was unseasonably warm and we felt that the restaurant should have been more helpful and accommodating with umbrellas. The food was good but portions small and very expensive.
Great service, cool establishment, and the food was amazing.
The food here is always good!!
Did not have special and instead of letting me know they have me whatever they had. And I didn’t not like it.
Server was excellent. Food was quick and good.
The food was outstanding. The corn chowder was to die for. The lobster roll stood up against many of the best I’ve had. The hostesses were fantastic at accommodating a request to change seats. However, the server while very nice, was not so fantastic at serving. It took about 15 minutes to get our first order of drinks which arrived shortly after appetizers. Our waters arrived even later than that. I had to ask multiple times for salt for my dinner. By the time the salt arrived, the rest of the people in our party had finished their dinners and I was just starting mine. Would love to come back because of the food, but not sure I want to go through the annoyance again.
Great oysters both raw and fried. Happy Hour prices can't be beat.
Olde bar never disappoints!
Food was amazing!! Service was very slow. Our waiter was trying his best, but we were continually waiting for drinks or sides or things that just never came
It was Philadelphia’s restaurant week, so they had a special menu. I can’t compare to their regular menu. Appetizers were good, but the entrees were not so great. The Scallop pasta was tasty, but the lobster rolls we had were tiny for the price and lacked any flavor at all. All you could taste was bread. The service left a lot to be desired too. We ordered iced teas and Cokes. They had to go through the bar for some reason and took 20 minutes to get. When we ran out, we had to ask the waitress 3x for more before we got a refill. Turns out they also charge for each refill, something nobody mentioned. Who charges $3.50 for an iced tea refill?
Went for restaurant week. Had a great selection. More than enough time to enjoy some drinks, eat, and socialize with friends. Perfect social distancing. Great experience!
