About this restaurant

Permanently Closed - Always stylish, yet perfectly relaxed, our new restaurant offers a deliciously inventive range of dishes every evening from 6.30 pm until 9.00 pm.

Head Chef Paul Newton draws inspiration from the classic dishes found throughout Britain, influenced by modern continental cuisine, using only the freshest seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby farms and local waters. He explained: “Our aim is to offer freshly prepared, locally sourced food which is cooked to perfection.”

“Lincolnshire produces more fresh food than any other county in the UK and

the quality and flavour is superb. We want to work with as many county-based farmers, growers and producers as possible to demonstrate just what Lincolnshire has to offer.”

The food is brilliant but the décor and the room were very un inspirational . The table we had my wife had a brilliant view out over Lincoln and I was looking at the panelling that to be honest was a pretty poor second best . The staff were very attentive. Have to end on the food it is very good and to be honest not bad value for money .I just wished the dining room was better finished and a little more opulent.

The dinning room is very plain and needs making brighter some flowers or plants and may be decorating. There needs to be a bar where you can have a drink before your meal. It is difficult to find so needs some signs at the moment the only signs say Bishops Palace and they are small and old.

I had high hopes for our celebration meal booked for Tuesday. How wrong I was. We arrived by taxi to be greeted by a lobby with no signage other than a Stokes Coffee swing sign and a small square declaring Old Palace out side. Having made our way inside we were directed to a lounge area having been told someone would be with us soon. The lounge could be very nice except there was the remains of someone’s afternoon tea still on the table. Eventually the waiter arrived to ask if we would like a drink. We would have liked a kir but a request for this produced a blank look so we asked for a glass of dry white wine. I notice that two white wines are offered by the glass but we were not asked if we had a preference. Our table was booked for 19.00, we arrived slightly early, at 19.15 we were asked to come up to the restaurant. Why were we not shown the menu whilst we were sat in the lounge? Why did the waiter not offer to carry our drinks upstairs? We were shown in to an empty room and told to pick any table for two, what a great welcome that was. Having sat down we were presented with the menu, it would have been good if we had both been given the same menu. Mine had a series of abbreviations under each dish but no explanation as to their meaning, just as well mine was the wrong menu then. Our starters were decidedly average, the duck being very cold as if just removed from the fridge and the risotto being overpowered by lemon/garlic and not at all creamy as one would expect. The main course, when they arrived 20 minutes later, were good but why present them on black plates, the presentation is lost as it can not be seen. The dessert presented well but if you closed your eyes you would never have know it was meant to be a rich chocolate mousse. All in all a very disappointing evening especially as we were the only two guests in the restaurant,

Food and service were almost excellent, probably should be described as "almost there but not quite". The ambience was a little too formal and quiet. I hesitate to suggest it, but a little (quiet) background music might help.

We attended The Faulty Towers we evening as a celebration for my husbands birthday. It was excellent and exceeded all our expectations. I did wonder whether the food would suffer with all that was going on but it was top notch, hot, well served and of excellent quality. We are still laughing and talking about the fun and highly entertaining evening that we had. Well done to all involved for making it such a memorable evening.
