The Old Fourth Street Filling Station Ratings and Reviews
This is one of my favorite places for outdoor dining in WS. The courtyard is beautiful and quaint and the outside wall cuts down the road noise a bit. Inside, the restaurant is definitely "Old"...it could use some sprucing up in order for the inside to match the outside's ambiance. Food was very good...portions were substantial and the wait staff friendly and competent. Great value for the $.
Been here many times and tonight it just wasn't as good. My steak came out and was full of grizzle and fat. While they immediately took care of the steak a little more attention prior to cooking the steak would've gone a long way. The rest of my party of 7 were finished with dinner and my "new" steak was still on the grill. Not wanting to have them wait and have to watch me eat it, I asked the server to cancel the steak since everyone else was finished. He stated he would get it packaged to go for me. When he presented the check he informed me they had removed the original steak from the receipt which was the correct thing to do. When I asked about the one he was packaging to go he informed me that they just cancelled the order. Interestingly enough a manager never visited the table to check on us or to discuss the problem. That's an issue for me. Good customer service only takes a couple of seconds.
The rest of my party enjoyed their meals and we had a good time together. Unfortunately I went home and made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Just disappointed to spend $245.00 on a meal and have to do a PBJ at the end.
We went for Christmas Eve brunch-certainly a very busy time for a small restaurant. We had a reservation and arrived on time. Our table was not ready. The hostess assured us it would just be a matter of cleaning an available one. Ten minutes later, is the matter of cleaning a different table. We were seated within 15 minutes or so. I was disappointed to learn that they were out of the dish I ordered about 5 minutes after the order had been put in. I ordered a more expensive entree, and was charge at full price. I ordered a children's entree for my daughter. This came with an included drink, which wasn't brought until we asked after the entrees had arrived. My flatware was dirty and I asked for a replacement. Unfortunately, we received the food while I didn't have any available flatware and had to get up to ask the hostess for a new set. The food was good and the prices are very reasonable. Everyone was very nice, I think they were perhaps a bit understaffed that day to function at the highest level. I will go back hoping for a better experience next time on a less busy day.
This restaurant features outstanding food and terrific service! I ordered a cider sangria cocktail, which was delicious and highlighted winter spices, like cinnamon and clove. For my entree, I had the beef tips and smoked Gouda over pasta, which was excellent. The beef was tender and the smokiness of the cheese went very well with the pasta. For dessert, we shared the chocolate bourbon pecan pie, which was equally terrific.
Our server, Brittany, made good suggestions, was very welcoming, and appropriately attentive. Most of the entrees range from $20-$30. If you’re looking for a fine meal in s casual setting, I highly recommend The Old Filling Station.
I am becoming more and more intolerant of the noise level in the Filling Station.
We love Sunday brunches in the courtyard... we love sitting by the fireplace when the place is half full or less.
But the noise level on Sunday evening was uncomfortably high, both in the main restaurant and in the covered section of the courtyard.
I think we'll refrain from eating there on weekends in the colder weather.
To be fair, all restaurants have this problem to some degree. Mozelle's, across the street, is noisy... So are Quanto Basta and Spring House... I can't think of a quiet restaurant on a busy night.
So perhaps we should chalk up my poor review to Fuddy Duddyhood... But is there nobody in this town who can control noise? Some fabric on the walls, some textured tiles in the ceiling?
Made an OT reservation, was told it’d be 30 minutes after that before the two of us could be seated. The food is good, at a decent price point, but otherwise nothing to get excited about. The service has always been fair, my only real issues I’ve had is with the host. They need to learn how to use Open Table and manage their floor to honor OT reservations. All in all, a good restaurant at a good value, just some minor issues. Would go back, and recommend for casual dining.
The food was great, all of us loved what we ordered. Our server was attentive. Noise level made it difficult to converse, but not impossible. It only attests to a very popular place. We went on a Saturday night, so glad I made reservations, as people without reservations waited a while.
The Food Great -The Quality of the ingredients and the mixture of flavors were wonderful.
The waiter was not very attentive and I believe he forgot to put the order in because I saw two other tables get their meals before us. We waited approx 45 minutes for our main dishes.
I thought the food was mediocre. Drinks were as good as most places. Steak was dry and barbecue chicken was overcome in volume and taste by a large sloppy heap of mashed potatoes. Salad seemed OK. Service was fine and the price was fair, but there are a number of better restaurants in town for only a slightly higher price. This would probably work out real well as a lunch place, but it missed the mark for dinner.
We took our son here for dinner while visiting Wake Forest. The food was great. Great variety! Wine list was impressive as were the drink menu. My only slight complaint is that i felt a bit rushed. Knowing it was parents weekend I am sure the reservations were stacked. Would like to come back during a less busy weekend
Hostess was rude. We had reservation for a party of 4 to be seated inside. We requested to be seated in a booth. Even though all but 1 booth was open, and the restaurant was not very busy, we were told that she was saving the booths for larger parties. She seated us at a table near the door while at least 3 booths were open the entire time we were dining. Very poor customer service on this visit.
We really enjoyed our meal. The steak was excellent as was the pasta dish. My only complaint was the only available table with a reservation was near two large parties, which can happen anywhere. Waiter was excellent, we will definitely go back. I loved the option of a four ounce filet!
We were in Winston-Salem for a business meeting but also wanted to have a nice dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary on this same day. We had a wonderful experience that evening... excellent food, great service, and a perfect evening on the patio. This is our second time for coming to this restaurant and will certainly remain at the top of our list when in Winston-Salem.
We dined at The Old Fourth Street FIlling Station as part of a trip to Winston-Salem to see an exhibit at the Reynolda House from our home about 1 1/2 hours away. Our party of 3 chose it after looking at online reviews and weren't disappointed. It has wonderful outdoor dining and a unique twist on classic brunch dishes. The coffee was flavorful and strong, the Mimosa perfectly mixed and the food divine. Our server was pleasant but not too friendly and we weren't rushed to leave. I would highly recommend The Old Fourth Street Filling Station for a relaxing brunch or a special occasion.
