About The Old Dairy
The Old Dairy is literally just that. Built in 1890 it was originally the site of a dairy and certain features within this huge pub such as the exposed brick walls, the steel girders and the magnificent etchings on the Crouch Hill side are evidence of its previous life. It has been restored into a quite magnificent pub with a new room to discover at every turn.

The Old Dairy Ratings and Reviews
A busy venue where one had to avoid the large sports screen showing football. The Sunday lunch was mediocre. As a starter, I had a portobello mushroom that was surrounded by wilted vegetables. By wilted, I make no reference to the culinary process involved. They were old, as was the radish that sprawled alongside my dining companion's harissa hummus. I had chewy beef that consisted of far too much fat and gristle. Not to be recomended.
We ate in the restaurant as on Monday evening you can take your own wine. It had not been explained to me beforehand although I had spoken to them twice about the booking that you have to take one bottle between two and all eat main courses. In fact it as was fine as three of us shared one bottle, one person took a bottle which was less than half full and the other two took their bottle home unfinished. As long as you have the right number of bottles on the table it doesn't seem to matter. (This seems as if we are not drinkers - we had already sat in the bar with purchased wine!)
The people who had fish and chips were disappointed - apparently it was not as good as remembered. The mushy peas were just a sloppy purée in a bowl. One person had fish with spices - very good. Two others had spa salad - delicious with lots of fruit, crunchy chickpeas, avocado.
The waitress was a bit officious to begin with over the wine but then was very charming and helpful throughout the rest of the meal.
Booked a table for 6 people for 6pm on a Thursday, post matinee at the Park Theatre. Was rated by all as excellent - the spacious pub, spacious separate dining areas (with chandeliers!), the friendly & efficient staff, and the well-presented and very tasty food! Highly recommended.
Unfortunately I didn't get to eat at The Old Dairy as by the time my table became available (6:00pm on Sunday evening) I was told that there wasn't a guarentee that my family could be fed as they had run out of almost everything on the menu!!!! I thought the barman was joking when he told me this when I arrived at 4:00.
This is a great place to meet for drinks but I wouldn't trust the restaurant again as they obviously don't order enough food to cover the bookings they accept. Also, just to warn you one (rude) member of the staff informed me that all bookings via Open Table have been suspended, even though you will receive confirmation and will be on their table plan.
The upside to my visit was a very helpful member of staff telephoned and booked us a table at the Italian restaurant a few doors away. I recommend you go to after a drink at The Old Dairy this place as food and service was absolutely perfect
The Old Dairy is a good pub, the roast is good but they sell out too quickly which is annoying when most people seem to book!
The roasties are also hit and miss, I've been a few times now and they have been great but also sometimes they've obviously been sitting around for a while.
A friend of mine recommended a visit to Old Dairy a while ago and I was so looking forward when we finally decided to try it out.
Entering the venue, the atmosphere is really warm and welcoming and I was looking forward to a nice dinner, but unfortunately I was let down.
The starter was quite nice. For my main I ordered a sea bass risotto and it was the blandest risotto I have ever eaten. The rice was overcooked, drowned in oil, no flavour at all. The sea bass was over-done, and dry. I did not finish my meal, and I was sorry when I was not asked by our waitress how come my plate was still full when she came to empty our table.
All in all I was left feeling deflated and I will not be going back.
I would recommend the venue though, if you are looking for a nice place to have a drink or 2 with your friends.
The Old Dairy consistently stands up as the best gastro pub in this area with great food and drink. A beautiful building with a welcoming restaurant area which has very comfortable, large booths - my favourite, and good for a six person party. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. I'd definitely recommend as a the place to go to for a special meal out, or just a good pint.
I love the decor and size of The Old Dairy so was keen to try out their dinner menu with some family who had come to stay. Our first choice wasn't available unfortunately and then when the food came it was slightly disappointing. The burger was good but the cod was very plain and the duck salad had hardly any duck in for a main. Overall, wasn't impressed by the food but would return for drinks in the bar as I like the size and space of the venue.
I love The Old Diary and it never disappoints! Have been for dinner many times with family and friends, the food is always delicious and the service always friendly.
Beautifully decorated - you can sit in the back which is quieter or in the long booths out front. The menu is always changing and everything I have tried has been great from the huge fish and chips, smoked haddock fishcake and the absolutely yummy lamb.
Great choice of reasonable wines and craft beers and a good selection of desserts to finish things off....if you have room!
