The Old Clam House
Classic SF. Just as I remember it. Waitress was friendly and the food was good. What more can you ask for?
Perfect seafood and service.
I've been trying to support this place for years, because I generally like the food, and I think it's quite the neighborhood gem. Not too much trouble parking, always plenty of space for me and my family because it's generally empty, and food is still pretty good. Unfortunately, service is declining, as servers don't seem too happy there, although seemingly trying to keep a smile. This place clearly needs new management. Please don't let this great restaurant die completely!
I’ve been wanting to go here for years, but I haven’t been to San Francisco, so I had to wait. That was until this weekend. We made reservations which I’m glad we did.
Visiting from Brooklyn NY, we had high hopes for this place. It’s off the beaten path and even our Uber driver questioned our choice in dining there.
Unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience. Our food came out inconsistently. I received my appetizer while my partner received his main course. By the time he was finishing up with his meal, I literally had received mine. The side accompaniments to the dishes were over cooked (frozen corn, chewy yams) So ANNOYING.
The server tried to make it up by comping dessert, but by that point, we just wanted to leave. Save the trip and cost. If you want an authentic seafood experience, there’s many more choices other than this place.
The food...the atmosphere...the service...it all rules! We LOVE The Old Clam House!
Native San Franciscan and never been here before. Rich with tradition. Great shell fish. We enjoyed our dinner.
That GARLIC BREAD THO! My roommate and I went here the other night and had a great time. Don't be afraid of the hot clam juice shooters - they are delicious!! We also got the half crab, salmon and baby back ribs - everything came out super hot and fresh. The service was good - they were attentive but also left us alone to enjoy the meal. It was my first time and I'm going back! And next time getting an extra garlic bread loaf to go...
The food was excellent and the service was great. Didn’t feel rushed and it was just an overall great experience. I would definitely go again. Had the double crab and shrimp platter, clam and avocado bruschetta and crab cakes. Had a club soda and a blood orange margarita which was very tasty, I loved it. Had a great time with great company. Definitely a place to check out. It’s the best thing to eating at the Warf.
This place is quite the quirky classic! In a part of town well South of the hipsters, and with very little parking (pro tip, go on Sunday when neighboring businesses are closed), this is San Francisco's oldest restaurant continuously operating at it's original location. Love local history? Just go!
Pricey but worth it.
It was a last minute decision to go here. We were headed out on a morning flight, staying near the airport when we found the Old Clam House on a Google search. Great old San Fran charm with fantastic food. What a delight, making our last night here very enjoyable.
This place is so freakin delicious, I'd go weekly if my budget and stomach allowed.
Nice place, really good food with pretty nice size portions. The only thing was that there was only 1 waitress managing tables and the bar. She was very nice but she was super busy so we had a hard time getting her attention.
The bartender/server was new, in fact, just went through training. He wasn't familiar with menu items, kept forgetting to bring us butter, silverware, etc., that we asked for. He seemed overall just very confused. With that being said, we enjoyed our meal of traditional chowder and a Shrimp Louie. Their fresh bread is amazing. We were extra patient with him and joked around to put him at ease and made sure to tip him well. Always a nice neighborhood place to stop in to when you're in the area but parking can be a difficult especially if you are physically challenged like myself. But, once there the staff is very accommodating. Great seafood and specialty sizzling garlic seafood items.
Classic and contemporary takes on traditional dishes like whole crab, cioppino, fish and chips and others. Service was quick, friendly and very professional! I would recommend this to anyone looking for seafood in SF!
Living here in SF for over 30 plus years I felt obligate to go to the Clam House and wasn't disappointed. Went family style so tried the steamers, oysters, cioppino, grilled, shrimp, etc ... Every thing was excellent. Friendly but busy wait staff. Classic SF seafood house, would recommend and will return.
Old school seafood feel. Good seafood. Pastas were surprisingly good. Very clean, service was good. Overall every seafood items were fresh. The only points taken off is the crab in their sizzling iron skillet. I feel the Crab was over cooked. But everything else was good. Seafood pastas were great. Attentive and pretty fast service. No corkage a major plus. Will come back again for sure!
Great garlic bread, mussels, shrimp and chocolate mousse.
Exceptional service from the woman bartender/waiter/hostess working alone on July 4!
This is not a review on the food but a review on how bad the area is surrounding the restaurant, so bad impossible to park. Surrounded by homeless and gloomy industrial area. Not a safe surrounding. Wish we had an opportunity to enjoy the food but a very scary area to park and walk to restaurants.
Shooter Bread Clam Chower Killer Crap
What else do you need 🤗
Ana was outstanding, very friendly. I've had her as a server twice and I've been there twice. She made my friend's birthday special!
Food was delicious and plentiful. Set-up involving one square table and one round table not inviting to accessibility for guest in power wheelchair and not enough space on table for plates. Service was adequate.
Es un lugar bonito, con un excelente servicio, la comida fue deliciosa y todo llego en tiempo, mi familia disfruto de un bonito tiempo pronto regresaremos.
It's time for an interior face lift. In order to attract the younger generations and future generations to come, The Old Clam House interior décor needs updating. Otherwise, the service and food are great and we old timers don't really care about updating the interior, but with competition out there with so many trendy SF restaurants, it is important to look to the future.
Food was pretty good. Noise level was comfortable and the soup was affordable
Venue has a lot of character. Parking is on street and in an eclectic area of San Fran. Good was delicious.
The food was great the service was poor we waited so long after appetizers that we didn’t even order food because they Still have not taken her order after being there 45 minutes.
Food always great, people helpful and pleasant. One of the “musts” in SF.
Love our female waiter!
It was great . we kind of had a booth by front window. NO corkage fee I read on
website. we were greeted at our table with a glass of hot clam juice... it was really good and it was SF summer. freezing outside.
Fresh oysters great. Hot sour dough perfect we had the sandabs.. very well prepared...
same with vegetables on plate. friends had cioppino & that was very good too.
Also decorated in a cool old fashioned NON trendy way
We love this restaurant and the shots of broth they serve before the meal. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive!
This place is a legit gem. Laid back, welcoming with straight forward delicious seafood. Have a steam beer and a whole crab. You won’t be sorry.
Nice environment, the food was tasty but a little too salty.
One of my favorite places, always consistently great!
Always excellent service and food. We missed the shot glass of broth though.
Old Clam House is an integral part of San Francisco’s history. It is one of the longest open seafood restaurant in the city
The food is point on — best in presentation best in flavor and best in the amount of food on the plate
Their garlic bread is so buttery and full of garlic. The welcoming glass of warm clam juice seasoned with green onion and garlic wakes your mouth up with a Wow
The service is great - they make you feel welcome-very attentive and not rushing you even when they have diners waiting for a table
It is a truly a seafood restaurant - no matter which seafood you order - it will be great
Their Sand Dabs were wonderful as well as any of their crab dishes or the fried Calamari
LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Drinks and dinner were fantastic!
