The Old Clam House
Always excellent service and food. We missed the shot glass of broth though.
Old Clam House is an integral part of San Francisco’s history. It is one of the longest open seafood restaurant in the city
The food is point on — best in presentation best in flavor and best in the amount of food on the plate
Their garlic bread is so buttery and full of garlic. The welcoming glass of warm clam juice seasoned with green onion and garlic wakes your mouth up with a Wow
The service is great - they make you feel welcome-very attentive and not rushing you even when they have diners waiting for a table
It is a truly a seafood restaurant - no matter which seafood you order - it will be great
Their Sand Dabs were wonderful as well as any of their crab dishes or the fried Calamari
LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Drinks and dinner were fantastic!
Come to The Old Clam House if you are in the mood for quality seafood, fun decor and friendly, helpful service. We loved our waitress!
From the moment we walked in the door we had excellent and friendly service. The meal starts with clam juice and sour dough bread. The entrees were delicious and very generous. I got the fishwich sandwich which was enough for two people.
The food quality has gone down over the past few years as the prices have gone up. In addition for charging for the bread they bring as though it’s included, now you can add fries to an $18 sandwich for an additional $5.99.
The staff is very nice, but There are many better places to go to drop that much cash.
Came for my birthday and we had a fantastic time. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious. Linguini was a little heavy in tomato but it was still very yummy.
I thought the food and service would be better.
This was an old standby for excellent food, service, and atmosphere for many moons. Although a couple of years have passed due to constant travel, I headed back (with family) with memories of copper-pot baked sand dabs dancing in my memory. Gotta say, the OCH was batting slightly above .300 after this experience. The sand dabs were still pretty good, but now presented on an antiseptic looking wide white plate. The fried seafood was flavorless, and the grilled mussels and shrimp were anemic (but served with quite a bit of sizzle). Not sure what has happened over the past couple of years, but some things don’t get better with change. The “new” Clam House doesn’t have the same ring. Bring back the service and food prep of yore!
The chatacter of the restaurant was so uniquie. Food was amazing and the staff was top notch.
Decided to drop in one day after a long time since the last visit and Old Clam House never fails. Love this little gem. I actually think the food is even better now than before. I was thinking maybe there's a new chef. I had the garlic noodles with the crab and it was delicious. I was skeptical on ordering because I don't remember them being that good. The fish and chips even seemed so much better, and all 3 of my kids finished all their food! Service was excellent, as always. Can't wait to go back!
Best $1.29 bread ever!
Such a delicious meal. Crab cakes perfect. HUGE piece of fish in my fish and chips. Hot and delicious! The clams in the chowder are so tender and big. Good drinks and cheesecake too.
Very fresh seafood. We especially enjoyed the skillet mussels as an appetizer. The seafood cioppino with black noodles was filled with beautifully cooked seafood in a spicy broth. The Crab louie was a disappointment. There wasn't much crab and the beets were an afterthought on the plate.
Don't miss out on ordering the crispy kettle bread. It comes out warm and the crust is amazing!
I took my parents here for my mothers birthday and everything from the service to the food was exceptional. Always a great experience at the clam house. Their garlic bread is a must!
Love everything about the place.
Food was good but definitely not at the level of the exhorbitant prices...and especially not in that oilcloth neighborhood! Absolutely everything is a la carte, including the bread. No wonder the restaurant was empty except for the bar which is too bad as I remember it being a fun place to go and always crowded. So, if you want to pay tourist prices as on Fisherman's Wharf for an ordinary meal alone in a large venue, then this is the place for you.
Great main stay SF restaurant old favorite parking hard but worth it
The Cioppino is odd — no Dungeness crab but lots of potatoes, corn, yams and olives. Huh?
Came here to celebrate my birthday with friends and it was such a wonderful experience. Food was excellent and the staff were amazing!! Definitely will return for 2nd visit.
Great place to dine! They start you off with clam juice... Excellent! Great selection of items. Good service overall. 3 drinks, and crab platter $106 with tip. The platters come out sizzling. Roasted crab....Great stuff. Probably have to park down the street a block away but no biggy. You will enjoy.
The kettle bread is warm and good, get that!
I would recommend to people that are not real foodies. Nice old traditional SFO restaurant
GREAT EVENING!! WE CELEBRATED OUR FRIEND'S B-DAY AND SHE WAS DELIGHTED. IT WAS A FIRST TIME FOR HER. YOUR STAFF WAS ATTENTIVE AND MADE US FEEL AT HOME. JUST ONE PROBLEM: THE QUANTITY OF THE FOOD IS JUST A BIT TOO MUCH. I HAD TO BRING HOME HALF OF MY CRAB LOUIE.
The Crab skillet omelet was burned and had a tiny amount of crab sprinkled on top ($22). The salmon dinner was good ($28). The Manhattan tasted like cough syrup. The Kettle bread was delicious. We skipped the $10 deserts for a $2 hot fudge sundae at the nearby McDonnalds.
The old San Francisco decor and memorabilia was excellent.
Fabulous as always
Nice ambiance, small cozy restaurant with great food and service. Prices are very comfortable. They could use a bigger menu but given the limited seating, it probably makes sense to keep it small.
A very nice restaurant. Location is okay. The food was quite good.
Good food in a bad neighborhood
Crab enchiladas were great. Service was great. Fish dish with lemon and capers was not as good as the first time I had it a couple of months ago.
Best sauce ever but there was no crab in our chiopino this time. ☹️
Enjoyed the large portions
The employees were very nice , however - not attentive , incorrect order as well as never received items ordered . The crab and shrimp were overcooked ( served on a skillet ) . We asked to see the dessert menu , never got it but they sent out a dessert with a candle for my sisters bday . So -very nice but ... overall nice people meh food .
The food was bland. Had to put salt on the Clam Limguini. There’s wss nothing special about the crab sandwich. Cold crab with absolutely no taste. Cold bread. Ate only half. It didn’t taste like anything. Not worth $18.99. That price is ridiculous for that sandwich. The quality and food taste has gone down a lot from a few years ago. I’m surprised it’s managed to stay open as long as it has. I would not dine at the Clam House again even if I got a gift card. Perhaps, new cooks are in order ..
Every this was delicious! Can’t wait to come back and try the Ciopinno!
This place is a classic for a reason. Turns out, when you do something for over 150 years, you kind of figure out how to do it really, really well. Put this down on your bucket list of places to visit at least once when you're in SF.
Fantastic food. Great environment! Going back again.
Service was moderate and food was not anything special.
Disappointed in food and overall experience. Price was way too high for the quality of the food.
Loved the decor which brought to mind Spengers and other similar joints we went to as a kid for family dinners.
Great good.... pleasant experience!! The food was so good!!
The food was very good, the service was good and overall experience was very good. I will be returning to try other things on the menu for sure.
