The Old Bavaria Haus Ratings and Reviews
The old Bavaria Haus restaurant is a place we like to go for good food on a special events like Anniversaries, Graduation, and birthdays. We like their German still food with their great selections of house wines. Thanks for make or celebration great success.
We love the Bavaria Haus. Our neighbourhood gem. Food is delicious, consistent, and hot. We love the Shnitzel Pacific. The vegetables are served tender, not overdone, and always hot. We love Sheryl and Trevor serving us. Always fun, pleasant, and attentive.
Two thumbs up!
We arrived for our reservation. No one met us at the door we had to wait about 5 minutes before we rang the bell and someone came. Table wasn't ready but it was getting cleaned and set up. We waited a little bit before we were offered water. A bit longer and a lady came to take our drink order we also ordered our dinner at the same time. Loved the waitress she was funny and had Good sense of humour. Food was very good .. I had the Hawaii Chicken. Big portion to much cheese melted on too but other then that very good.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner and were very impressed. The mashed potatoes, the gravy, the stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce...excellent! All for a very reasonable price that included a delicious slice of homemade pumpkin pie. A really nice experience. We can't wait to go back and try the schintzel!
We always take our aging european parents to the Bavaria Haus for birthday dinners. They love to speak their native tongue with the waitress. The food is always good. My in-laws love the Rouladen. I was not impressed with the Hostess at the front door. I always book on Opentable. This time I put it in my husband's name because his Mom always teases him about making me make reservations. Was I horrified when the Hostess told us our table was for 7 people at 7pm!!
I booked for 5 people at 6pm. She told us we wouldn't be getting a table until 7pm! She didn't believe me that I booked for 6pm. Fortunately my husband had his cell and looked up the confirmation from Opentable. We got a table on the main floor and proceeded to enjoy a lovely dinner. But the mix-up with the reservation times and number of people concerns me. Who made the mistake and hopefully it doesn't happen again. I will now be more cautious when booking on-line.
I loved the food and our server was great and authentic. Not in that fake, corny way that plagues modern customer service, but in a genuine way where you could tell she is proud of her place.
The food came fast and was exactly what I wanted. The German beer on tap was perfect and served in the correct glass. A must for an authentic place.
The building was great. A classic Bavarian feel with details like speakers hidden as kegs on the roof. The art was tasteful, modern, and suited the eastablishment.
We have been going to the Old Bavaria Haus since 1974 - food has always been really good. Great for special occasions.
Only complaint this time is that the service was really slow - it took 20 min to get our drinks and 1 hour to get our dinner - I dont know if there are new owners but would try restaurant again in a few months.
Bavaria Haus is a classic German schnitzel restaurant. Wednesdays are schnitzel specials (approx. $5 off abot a dozen of their most popular schnitzel). The spaetzle is amazing, I can't get enough of the red cabbage, I'd be happy if there was twice as much on the plate (only because is so darned good, the serving is a good size to begin with). The wait staff are great, personable and skilled. We had a fantastic time, I would love to go back again.
As a long established location, the Old Bavaria Haus has consistently good service and quality, classic germanic food. The ambiance is of a dining room rather than hunting lodge. We had Coquille St. Jacques and spetzel appetizers, lamb and oskar schnitzel mains and split a black forest cake. All was fresh and tasty, the lamb was outstanding in it's seasoning and tenderness.
4 years ago I had bad experience with a server at this same restaurant, and i swore i would never go back, i decided to give the Bavaria haus a second chance, whats the chance we would get the same server again, well i guess my luck wasn't working for me Saturday. Same as before rushed us through the meal, no patience while taking our order, didn't offer us a second drink or dessert, no time between the appys and main coarse. Its fine dining i dont want to pushed through like cattle. No personal service at all. i dont live in new Westminster, I plan never to return to the old Bavaria Haus.
Moderately good food. Awful service. At one point during the dinner, our waiter wouldn't appear for a straight 15-20 minutes, making it impossible for us to order any additional beverages. When we asked a different waiter for more water and wine, she outright ignored us. The staff seemed moody and demotivated.
Food was not bad.Did not like the spa We didn't finish it and they brought us containers so we could pack our own doggie bag which I didn't like after all it wasn't cheap. We had an Entertainment coupon for $15.00 off and our waiter didn't or forgot to take it off. The Spätzle was very greasy and I only had two bites and left the rest. The best part was the Oyster Rockefeller in my opinion.
