The Oar Steak and Seafood Grill Ratings and Reviews
At first we were brought to sit in the front which was nice but immediately the smell of smoke consumed us before we could even sit down. We asked to move to the back, dock side view, and we were much happier. There's no smoking inside but there's separate door access near the bar where people can smoke in an enclosed area outside and that's why we smelled it.
Still my favorite place to dine as long as we stay away from that side.
The food was pretty good, I think that the portion was rather small but I guess that’s what I should have expected for a prix fix menu. I felt bad for our waitress, she was dealing with an entire room of tables by herself, I guess they didn’t plan on it being so busy for restaurant week. The New England Clam Chowder was excellent, though I thought my jumbo shrimp were anything but jumbo. The chocolate chip bread pudding was amazing and was loaded with chocolate chips.
If you enjoy seafood, please consider this restaurant. Super fresh selections and a wonderful and attentive staff. The restaurant has a great nautical flair. Thank you to their chefs and waitstaff for a flavorful and delicious meal. They were also sensitive to guests with allergies and cooked to order for us :)
The food was great and we love the place, service was fine. If I had a complaint it would be that it took a while after we were sat to take drink order and while I was eating still they tried to take my plate. I had to explain I was still eating. But I still would recommend and we will be back.
Food was ok. Appetizers were good the lobster Won Tons were doughy sauces were average . seafood chowder was good . my husband got the French onion tasted like Manhattan clam chowder to him and he is a cook ..made up for that withbgis entree bountiful on the diavolo... I got the special surf n turf... Was alright steak wasn't done the way in had asked .. Was noisey as we were sat next to the bar .. Our server Sam was wonderful very attentive...
I suggest making a reservation because the 1st time I went it was closed for a party. The second time I went there was a wait. Finally the 3rd time I went I made a reset and was seated right away. The food was great. When it came time for the bill the waitress told me I had $40.00 left to spend on my Groupon. When I added up the bill on my own I was only $4.00 off. I feel I was mislead on how much I spent so I would spend more money. I highly suggest adding up your bill on your own.
I had the roast duck. It was two legs w/ thighs but no breast. You had no choice on how you wanted it cook. It came only one way which was slightly over cooked and dry. My wife had the scallops which were very good. We started with the tuna tartar and PEI mussels. Both were very nice. It was "steak night" Thursday and so very crowded and the service was a little slow. We arrived close to 7pm, had appetizers and entree only and didn't leave until 9:30. All in all it was a good experience.
We arrived before our time and were seated very quickly. Our table was inside looking out at the water. The noise level was very loud and it was difficult to have a conversation. We shared the baked clams appetizer. It was very bland except for an intense oregano flavor. The pork entree was just okay. The filet Mignon was cooked perfectly, but our baked potatoes were undercooked as well as the green beans in the vegetable medley. We were very disappointed. We have been to many a Happy Hour there, but would not go back for dinner.
The location is a tad hard to find, thankful for the GPS. The food is really good and the service was good. The waitress forgot something we ordered and it never came. The cost is really expensive, we had 2 drinks, 2 soups and 3 appetizers and it was around $100. Definitely somewhere for a special occasion but not a general night out.
Service was extremely slow and server was disorganized. Had to order drinks several times. Server brought out food to another table with our food (but not all of the food for either table). Salmon was terribly undercooked, sent back and still raw in the middle. My friend ate only one bite and was ill an hour later. Just a terrible experience.
Many many other patrons there, so we probably just got a bad night.
We were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary and asked for a romantic table. They honored our request. We were greeted with a anniversary wish. When we were seated they brought us a glass of champagne to start our celebration( on them). The food and service was great. Will definitely go back again. It was a wonderful evening.
Friendly staff, waitress went out of her way to serve us. Food was delicious and drinks were fun and creative, enjoyed the Long Island Mule. I had the chicken pot pie - very comforting and delicious. Husband had the strip steak - said it was wonderful - finished the full meal.
I made my reservation for Monday March 6 and received a confirmation. Friends had recommended the restaurant. I'm not from the area and I was looking forward to dinner there. Much to my surprise the restaurant was closed. It was a totally wasted trip and I was left without a place to eat. I was extremely disappointed. How can you accept reservations and send a confirmation for a restaurant closed on Mondays???
Was there on a busy Saturday evening recently and the service and food were excellent. One of my favorite places to eat on the island. Very happy with the gluten free options. The food is always presented beautifully and I love the special drink options. Love the music too!! Great place for a get together or first date.
Wow, never had this happen before...waitress returned to our table after we paid the bill and left her a 20% tip on the full amount (we had a groupon discount), to tell us we did not tip her enough! OMG! We were really shocked, flabbergasted actually. Food quality was only mediocre, prices were very high, everything alacarte. Not worth the experience. One of my friends ordered vodka on the rocks. When the bill came, after the waitress came to discuss the tip, we saw that the drink price was nine dollars with a three dollar surcharge. The surcharge was because it was vodka straight up and no juice added. In our experience, that was ridiculous! If anything, they should just charge $12 for the drink. Overall the restaurant left a bad taste in our mouth,no pun intended, and we probably will not return for a very long time...if ever.
All great but they let the table next to us drink straight vodka shots and if course one if the 10 fools emptied his stomach AT THE TABLE AND THEN JUST WALKED OUT A BACK DOOR. Staff needs to learn to shut people off, its a restaurant not a night club. Ruined my dinner.
This is the second time we are at The Oar..service was good both times..the second time we went to dinner...14 oz she'll steak marinated was tasty the potato croquet was good but frozen Brussels sprouts disappointing...only homemade dessert is the bread pudding which is good...well made cocktails nice water view...great lunch specials...tuna salad was fabulous...clams casino was bacon on top of little necks..nothing to write home about...the seafood bisque was very good as well as a crab chowder with corn...fried calamari was average with a marinara and a roasted red pepper aoli...
