We ordered 3 dishes, squash, squid & steak (for 2 of us)
All beautifully presented & each was outstanding
Didn’t have any room for dessert but next time .....
Highly recommend this restaurant
PS when the first dish (squash) arrived we dived right into it &
forgot all about taking a pic
Loved the food, especially the warm kale salad. Server moved us to quiet, intimate table at the back by the fireplace. Perfect for a date night!
I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough! The service was phenomenal, as was the food. Was a perfect date spot, definitely plan on returning and I can’t wait!
The food was great although Tapas style so be prepared to share the small plates. They all taste great and look amazing. Some very interesting flavours but the small plates don't last long. It will keep your dining experience short and to the point but filled with great taste.
The restaurant is very noisy and it can be hard to hear the person across the table or even beside you but that was largely due to the music that was turned up far too loud. The closest visible speaker was not even near our table.
This was our first visit to the Oakwood. It’s a lovely funky little place with a smallish menu which we like. We shared the burrata beet dish which was delicious, and my hubby had the burger and I ordered the squid. The burger was good. The squid was fishier than I’ve had elsewhere and the pepperoni Ragu was a strange accompaniment. Sounded interesting on the menu but fell short on execution. We also felt rushed as the first dish arrived minutes after ordering and the mains immediately afterwards. We were there for a total of an hour.
Glad we tried the Oakwood but don’t know if we’d return.
Burger 2.0 is cooked well done now but still amazing. The poutine is crazy delicious, as always.
Amazing as slwsys
As usual the Warm Kale salad was beyond reproach .... service was excellent. Th only reason I am not giving a 5 Star is the gnocchi dish was not as good as past versions. Didn’t care for it at all. First time I have not been over the moon about dinner there. Will be back soon though. Management was very concerned and offered another dish instead but we just weren’t hungry enough.... too bad! They were great. Never fail to impress.
Menu was inviting but we were sadly disappointed. Doneness of the meat/seafood was very good (we had lamb, duck and squid), but the issue we had was too much oil (lamb), unnecessary sauce and not so crisp skin (duck) and way too much salt (squid).
On the plus side: service was friendly and atmosphere was lively.
Not my first time enjoying Oakwood but took 2 friends for their first visit. They are foodies and were totally impressed. Even claimed it was one of the best meals they have had in 5 years. Thanks Oakwood for allowing me to impress some foodie friends!!
Great food, and service, food came out as was prepared (shared plates). Pace could have been a little slower so we had time to digest each plate a little more!
food was quickly served but too heavy i.e. deep fried or heavy sauces. Squid was too salty
wine list was fine
We love the Oakwood. We have been there a number of times and we were never disappointing. Unfortunately this time 2 of the 4 dishes were quite treasured a bit too salty.
Food was savory and presentation was great
I have been there a few times. I remember the food being a bit more memorable than my most recent visit. But great service and a fun place.
My girlfriend and I enjoyed a nice dinner at the Oakwood. Kale salad was surprisingly tasty considering I'm not a fan of Kale. Everything else we ordered was very tasty and the service was fast and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
We enjoyed the sharing concept and ordered four dishes. The warm kale salad was excellent, the fried gnocci should be removed from the menu - is was very bland, the pork belly and duck were good.
The music was loud for my liking.
The wine focused on BC wines and we tried a number by the glass but none of them were good enough to order again.
I fell the food was odd. Not traditional which I prefer but the service and interest in me as a guest was very good.
Wonderful bistro with exceptional food, especially the lamb belly!! And great wine! Highly recommend!
The service was great at this place. Very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
The food was all beautifully presented and four dishes between the two of us left us stuffed to the brim. The duck was both of our favorites. It's not the quietest place but could still hold a conversation without yelling and the ambiance is nice and cosy.
We will definitely be back.
It would be nice if the dining times were a little bit longer. We finished with about 5minutes or so to spare and weren’t rushed at all but I did find myself keeping an eye on the time quite a bit instead of paying 100% attention to the conversation.
Excellent service and choice options on the menu. Personalised staff that had an in-depth knowledge of the menu and wine list.
Great room. Great food. Great service. Definitely left a happy customer
We had a great dinner. Wonderful service (our waitress Chantelle was great).
A wood burning fireplace! That was a treat on a snowy night. Everything was just fine ... but our group felt the music was a problem. Erratic volume level and incompatible with conversation.
Food was fantastic, specialty drinks were great and the service was top notch. Couldn't ask for a better experience.
Food was very tasty and unique flavors. Very loud to visit in restaurant....maybe outside might be quieter.
Top notch service. Food delicious - my favorite is the warm kale salad.
Excellent food and very friendly staff. Natasha, our server, very pleasant.
When for dine-out but much of the food was cold and either over-seasoned or tasteless (cod). Service was slow but nice, atmosphere is warm and friendly but very noisy as well. I wouldn't recommend going unless there was a particular dish you wished to try.
Went for dine out Vancouver. Food and service was amazing but the portions were very small
We were very disappointed with the Dine Out 2018 experience here at The Oakwood Canadian Bistro. I have been to The Oakwood Canadian Bistro twice for brunch and both times I had great experience; therefore, we had high expectation for dinner. The service and the quality of food were mediocre. The portion sizes were small and we left feeling hungry.
We had a great meal with happy hour drinks beforehand, can't go wrong with $13 pasta mains on Sunday - all servers recommendations were spot on!
Great food great drink and beer selection. Always something new to try
Came here for Dine Out 2018 and the evening exceeded all expectations. From being politely greeted at arrival, to our wonderful and helpful server, to the amazing food. Service was fantastic the entire evening; the perfect amount of attentiveness. We never had to ask for wine or water top ups. The menu was very creative and the food was delicious.
Many delicious and well created dishes.
Service was fantastic.
First time at the restaurant. The food was exceptional, the ling cod was delicious. Great selection of local beers and cocktails. Definitely would recommend for a date night restaurant.
I visited the restaurant during Dine Out. The Dine Out menu did not resemble the restaurant’s regular menu and the restaurant did not give diners the option of ordering from the regular menu. The server was great but the food did not do justice to what the kitchen is capable of doing. Also, portions were very small for the entrees. I think Dine Out works best when the menu includes items that the restaurant regularly offers. It was the first time that some of my friends who joined me for dinner had been to the Oakwood and based on their experience, they are unlikely to return to the restaurant.
The choice of starters, entrees and dessert for the dine out menu was very good. Food was delicious. Natasha was our server and very attentive and friendly. Lovely evening with good food and drink to celebrate a special occasion.
Very cozy atmosphere! Our group was delighted with the food - very imaginative dishes with good portion sizes. None of our party of 4 were disappointed. A true neighbourhood gem worth the drive for those not living in Kits. Will come again.
