Mom and Pop style service. I would expect something a bit more professional here. We heard noise and loud discussion in the kitchen during our meal. Our server was friendly and efficient, but not not a trained waiter. Think Denny's. Our food wasQ!1×

Restaurant atmosphere was elegant. When we arrived at 12:45 pm we were the only patron. Not a good sign, but fortunately we were pleasantly surprise with the food and service.

The dungenous crab soup was amazing and so was the French onion soup. We should have stopped there. My daughter ordered the hearts of Romain salad and I ordered the roasted chicken green salad. Both were expensive st $18 and $19 respectively. When the salads came we laughed. Hers was a Romain head with shaven Parmesan cheese and a few croutons, mine was a cup of chopped vegetables with chopped chicken.
A bill totaling $71.00 is ridiculous for soup and a salad.

Wonderful Easter buffet! The food was excellent with lots to chose from. Excellent service too. The price was quite reasonable for what you got. I would return. Great job guys!

It's a rare gem. Near union square, yet not crowded and very quiet. The perfect place for a relaxed business discussion.

Lunch on vacation. Service very slow. Salmon not as fresh as it could have been. Despite it being an historic room, that charm is spoiled by industrial furnishings and lighting. It could be a much more inviting spot.

Even though OpenTable "made a reservation" for me, the restaurant was closed for lunch when we arrived. Very embarrassing and a big error by OpenTable!

A long-standing gem of a dining room tucked away in the St. Francis. Quiet and gracious, with excellent food. What I would call the best of "old" San Francisco with appropriate updates. I am sorry dinner is no longer served there.

The Oak Room is greatly under appreciated. We went the other day for lunch. It was quiet, dignified, and comfortable. The service was impeccable. We asked for specific wine glasses for a fine wine we ordered... they didn't have them handy, but they made a special trip somewhere in the hotel, found the exactly right glasses, and that made the wine service spot-on!

We love the atmosphere, plush leather chairs, cloth napkins, wine decanter. It's not easy to find dinner quality service and atmosphere for lunch. The Oak Room is off the street, on the Lobby Level of the St. Francis Hotel. Easy to find, yet out of the way.

The food was delicious and visually enticing. The Dungeness Crab Chowder, their signature soup, is worth the trip! The salads are large enough as a meal; bright and crisp Romaine Salad, with Chicken. The entres we ordered, fish, and their wonderful Kobe Burger.

We sampled three of the desserts, all worth of great praise, especially the Trio of Creme Brûlée, and the Chocolate Tart with Sechuan Sauce(!).
We lingered a little past the 2pm lunch hours, but the staff was still very pleasant and patient, another sign of great service.

Parking Tip: Union Square Garage is right across the street.

There was no butter for the rolls, we requested and received a portion of butter. And there were no bagels with the lox. Kind of curious about that... other than that we had a good time. Service was good.

Service in this charming, old San Francisco is consistently outstanding. Menu has a good selection of offerings and the food does not disappoint. Great place to meet friends for a tasty lunch in an atmosphere that is conducive to conversation.

It was a very elegant venue...you can't go wrong with the Westin St. Francis Hotel! The Easter Brunch was moderately priced and was good value for the quality and quantity of buffet selections. Our server, Henry, was very attentive and gave us the idea of coming back for Mother's Day Brunch! We were very happy with our experience at The Oak Room.

Very pleasant ambiance. Lovely oak paneled room. Good food. Good service. Reasonable prices. And, best of all, quiet enough that one can actually hold a conversation. I only wish they were open for dinner.

Went here for Easter Sunday brunch. The selections were very good with salads, seafood, traditional breakfast, omelet station, chicken, salmon and a carvery. We didn't have any of the meats from the carvery but they looked delicious. The place was very family friendly as there were a number of families with children in the place. It's located in the Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square. We had been expecting more of a crowd, especially with the tourist season starting up but it was not at all crowded and made for a quiet, pleasant meal. I haven't eaten in this restaurant in years but it was just as good as I remembered. If a tourist wants to have a quiet break and a good meal, I highly recommend this little gem.

I am sorry that the Oak Room is planning to discontinue serving dinner. It is a quiet, attractive setting where I can have a good visit without having the conversation drowned out by loud noise. The food is steadily good. Service is fine. I would call it a good place for "gracious dining." None of the descriptions on your list above applies--and I suspect that is why dinner service is ending. Too bad.

Think slllllooooow. And then be prepared to wait. Patiently. Bring a book. And a flashlight. It's dark. And slow.
Like the restaurant that time forgot.

I was there the day of the immigrant walk out so the service was horrible! Not a good experience in any way. Food bad, service terrible, wait time over an hour. Management seemed to be clearing tables but had an angry attitude and made the experience even worse.

It was a very busy night in the city with Valentines and a conference was in the city - I was able to get a last minute reservation here, to my surprise it was fantastic, I ordered the short ribs and they we're perfect in every way, so much that I want to come back for that same dish ! Everything was great about this experience.

The service was disorganized and staff perfunctory. There appeared a lack of teamwork and connecting with customers. All staff were busy, but there appeared to be no systems in place for an efficient running of the restaurant. Food was quite good.

We were staying at the Westin and having just fought the Chinese New Year Parade traffic trying to get to the hotel didn't feel like going out. The restaurant is in house and convenient. Despite poor reviews regarding the service and food we found it OK. It wasn't a memorable experience in either a stellar or bad way. Everything in the city is expensive relative to what you can get in more suburban regions and this restaurant is no exception.

Food and ambiance was good. Service was abysmal! Had to wait for the table even though all the tables but 2 were open and we had a reso. Took 20 minutes to get a beverage. We had to ask for items we ordered. Check was delivered before they remembered to bring us dessert we had ordered! We had to point that out, too. Disappointing.
