Highly overpriced for mediocre food. $6 for a can of Coke!!! The food was very bland, and I’m not a smoker and I don’t salt my food.

This was my first time having Lunch at the Oak Room Restaurant. The menu was very nice and we had a great meal.
This lunch was for a special occasion. Perfect spot - classy, quiet and very good food. Service was great.
Went here for Easter Sunday brunch. The selections were very good with salads, seafood, traditional breakfast, omelet station, chicken, salmon and a carvery. We didn't have any of the meats from the carvery but they looked delicious. The place was very family friendly as there were a number of families with children in the place. It's located in the Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square. We had been expecting more of a crowd, especially with the tourist season starting up but it was not at all crowded and made for a quiet, pleasant meal. I haven't eaten in this restaurant in years but it was just as good as I remembered. If a tourist wants to have a quiet break and a good meal, I highly recommend this little gem.

I am sorry that the Oak Room is planning to discontinue serving dinner. It is a quiet, attractive setting where I can have a good visit without having the conversation drowned out by loud noise. The food is steadily good. Service is fine. I would call it a good place for "gracious dining." None of the descriptions on your list above applies--and I suspect that is why dinner service is ending. Too bad.
Think slllllooooow. And then be prepared to wait. Patiently. Bring a book. And a flashlight. It's dark. And slow.

Breakfast is pretty excellent.
I was there the day of the immigrant walk out so the service was horrible! Not a good experience in any way. Food bad, service terrible, wait time over an hour. Management seemed to be clearing tables but had an angry attitude and made the experience even worse.
It was a very busy night in the city with Valentines and a conference was in the city - I was able to get a last minute reservation here, to my surprise it was fantastic, I ordered the short ribs and they we're perfect in every way, so much that I want to come back for that same dish ! Everything was great about this experience.
The service was disorganized and staff perfunctory. There appeared a lack of teamwork and connecting with customers. All staff were busy, but there appeared to be no systems in place for an efficient running of the restaurant. Food was quite good.
We were staying at the Westin and having just fought the Chinese New Year Parade traffic trying to get to the hotel didn't feel like going out. The restaurant is in house and convenient. Despite poor reviews regarding the service and food we found it OK. It wasn't a memorable experience in either a stellar or bad way. Everything in the city is expensive relative to what you can get in more suburban regions and this restaurant is no exception.
Food and ambiance was good. Service was abysmal! Had to wait for the table even though all the tables but 2 were open and we had a reso. Took 20 minutes to get a beverage. We had to ask for items we ordered. Check was delivered before they remembered to bring us dessert we had ordered! We had to point that out, too. Disappointing.
Very relaxing for a wonderful meal. Our server was "on the ball" without being under your nose. My husband and I just went to San Francisco for a get away weekend and I attended a Buddhist conference. Perfect place for relaxing, conference off property, and being in the heart of town.
We were 20 Minutes late for SF Restaurant Week réservation and they refused to serve us,they said the kitchen was closed.
They were not nice or in any way apologetic.
I'm actually relieved we didn't have to go,there was practically no one there and the room looked dated and tired,not fancy

One of the worst experiences in service I have ever had! It took almost 30 minutes to even be asked what we wanted to drink and longer to even get our ticket after asking for it 3 times
Unfortunately the experience at The Oak Room was lackluster. Apparently much of the wait staffed called off for the evening so there was one server for the entire restaurant. Since we weren't in a hurry, we didn't make a fuss but it was noticeable. More than the service, the food was disappointing. It is basically made up entirely of the standard Westin room service menu that you can get at most Westin's around the country. I would have expected more from what was classified as a fine dining establishment. Just not worth the money.
Food was excellent as well as the service. Ambiance was lacking and several solo diners were seated next to our table even tho the restaurant was almost empty.

Food was great but service was just pathetic specially for New Year's Eve dinner. I don't blame the wait staff since they were spread thin from what we observed. You would think the management would have more wait staff working during such a busy evening.

We went to get a good meal in advance of a play. Okay food, slowish service.
We have been to the Oak Room yearly at Christmas. This year we noticed the amount of variety was much less at the buffet. Those that had the turkey dinner said the stuffing was cold. The wait staff was very good.
We were extremely disappointed with our Oak Room dining experience. This was to be our Christmas Dinner. We were given a table outside the service entrance to the kitchen so there was a constant stream of wait staff passing our table. The meal was a combination of buffet for the appetiser and a choice of main meal. I chose pork loin which was substantial but dry and lacking in flavour as there was insufficient gravy and no apple sauce for example. My wife chose turkey which again was a large serving, however, the meat ws dry with insufficient gravy and the cranberry sauce was cold.
We came for the Christmas Dinner Buffet and the spread of salads,shrimp,crab,cheese, deserts and so on were incredible, I chose prime rib for my entree and it was delish. A guy played a piano in the corner muffling conversations.
We normally go to the Palace Hotel, but their buffet isn't what it used to be. Just a beautiful room and iffy food.
Christmas Eve dinner with my mom and sister. We opted for the 3 course menu, which included course 1: dungeness crab chowder or greens, course 2: prime rib, chicken or salmon and a dessert course, all with a glass of chardonnay or cabernet. We all opted for chardonnay, dungeness chowder, prime rib and a cheesecake for dessert.
Magnolia Grove Chardonnay: very good. Not too dry, floral & citrus flavors. The best part: no headache! (Wine is a headache/migraine trigger usually).
Dungeness Crab Chowder: delicious! It had gruyere cheese in it, which I would have preferred to go without.
Prime Rib with roasted red & golden beets, broccolini, carrot and potato cake: LOVED! The meat was extremely tender, flavorful and the sides were crunchy, the potato cake was so good.
St. Francis Cheesecake: not my favorite. At this point in the meal, I was full, but I wanted to taste it, so I took 2 bites and asked for the rest to be wrapped to go. It was too lemony for me.
While tasty and delicious, this meal was very rich and all the decadence did not land well in my stomach. Next time I'd swap the chowder for the greens or ask for no cheese.
It was a wonderful experience for me and my family. My husband loved the prime rib!
So sad that this was one of the worst meals I have ever eaten. I've had better food at Denny's. ( sorry Dennys) each course was either too salty, bland and over cooked and so over priced. The service was really slow. It was Christmas Eve and our family has never gone out together for a nice meal at Christmas. My husbands grandmother used to go here in the 1950's so we thought it would be meaningful. We should have gone for pizza! For nearly $400 for food for 5 of us and that included only 2 glasses of wine, I was so disappointed. I don't make a lot of money and thought this would be a really special family treat. I've never written a bad review in my life.
