The North Fork Table & Inn Ratings and Reviews
I had made the reservation for my 25th Wedding Anniversary while on the North Fork for the weekend. My wife and I and 2 guests arrived at 7:20 for a 7:30 reservation and waited over 15 minutes for a table while there were multiple tables open. Inexperienced hostesses did not communicate with us as we waited at the entrance getting a cold chill every time the door opened. Once we were seated, we waited and waited and waited, likely 10 minutes for someone to approach the table and welcome us and offer service. A wonderful server came to the table and acknowledged our anniversary with champagne (very nice), but then handed it over to his partner, Glen, who was overwhelmed and inattentive. Our conclusion was that the restaurant was understaffed as we waited long periods of time before we received bread (only after request) and then ordered our meals and then received our food, and after all that, the food was just ok. I was originally disappointed that the Inn was sold out because I thought we wanted to stay there but now I'm glad we didn't. Shame on you, North Fork table and Inn.
This was our second time at this restaurant and both times we found the execution to be poor. Last time, we waited 40 minutes to be seated for our reservation and this time, though they sat us only a few minutes past our reservation time, we were seated in what is effectively a passageway between the two main dining rooms. Our disappointment continued when our foie gras appetizers arrived cold. When I raised this issue with our waitress she proceeded to explain that the foie gras was seared so it might not be hot all the way through (I've had seared foie gras many times and, while it might not be served piping hot it's certainly not supposed to be COLD) - and then simply said she was sorry we weren't pleased. At $28 a pop for an appetizer that came to the table cold, I would have thought there would at least be a glass of wine or dessert on the house. The rest of the meal was fine but nothing to rave about. After two disappointing outings, we won't be coming back the next time we are visiting he North Fork from Manhattan.
Romantic anniversary date night. Excellent service truly complimented the outstanding food. An incredible evening starting with the hazelnut soup and risotto fritters. For entrees the duck confit and pork belly and to finish a delicious Napoleon. From the food to drink to ambience, we enjoyed every aspect of our dinner experience.
Hard rock soundtrack was hardly conducive to elegant dining. Dining room was elegant but dim, and got darker as the evening progressed, promoting drowsiness. Wait staff was rather clueless. However, ingredients were top notch, and the preparations and presentation were imaginative. Wine pairing were also imaginative and, although, they did not work for me, I realize that this is just a matter of taste.
We attended on a Sunday evening in late October so the restaurant was not crowded and the staffing level was spot on. We enjoyed a glass of complimentary champagne to start with. The appetizers and main course were both excellent and we finished with delicious desserts. Will visit again as our travels allow.
Wow. Just wow.
On Saturday night, North Fork Table & Inn surpassed Union Square Cafe as my favorite meal of the year.
Great traditional cocktails.
Possibly the best rack of lamb I’ve ever had (lavender spiced), incredible Sea scallops, followed by Claudia Fleming’s amazing phyllo Napoleon, all served by Ema, the perfect server.
Everything was delicious. Fois gras and raw tuna seemed like an odd combination but it worked beautifully. Glad we got the truffled pasta as an appetizer. A full plate of that would have been too much. The steak and duck were both excellent. Dessert was the best course. Service was friendly yet professional. I can see why this restaurant is considered one of the best on the North Fork.
Sadly, we had a horrible experience on 10/14. Not only did we wait almost 30 mins to be seated but then proceeded to wait 25 mins to be served water and the restaurant was very warm. We kept getting an "apology" from the waiter but no actual service. While our appetizers came in somewhat of a timely manner, it took over 30 mins for our entrees to arrive (neither one of which needed an extraordinary long time to cook). My steak was luke warm at best and my husband's fish, while spicy, was unremarkable. We had come into the restaurant with very high expectations given recommendations from friends but we were sorely disappointed.
We were seated quickly, orders taken within about 15 minutes of being seated, wine delivered promptly, dinner was delicious! BUT...we waited an hour and a half dinner for coffee and we were seated right next to the wait station. We were given dinner and forgotten. Completely unacceptable.
It was an amazing experience for our first wedding anniversary! Our waiter was amazing, attentive without being to attentive. He was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine as well! We were treated wth a glass of champagne for our anniversary and comped after dinner drinks for having to wait (only 12 minutes) for our dessert. And the food was delicious! Can't wait to go back again :)
We started with the Bloody Boar Cocktail. While I enjoyed its spiciness, it was a bit too much for my boyfriend. The complimentary bread was warm, crisp and tasty. My oysters were briny and cold. Perfect! The lobster salad was just delicious! It was our first time there and we are looking forward to a return trip :)
Delicious, creative food. On our most recent visit, we enjoyed the tuna tartare appetizer with taro chips, seared scallops, rack of lamb, and Claudia's delicious sugar and spice doughnuts. The restaurant consists of two relatively small rooms, and is quiet and comfortable.
There was an extremely noisy/obnoxious table of six in our dining room which spoiled the first 75% of our evening (and everyone else seated there). I wish the manager could have asked them to lower their voices - but it seemed that there wasn't any type of manager on the premises.
The service was very weak. We were never asked if we wanted a second drink until we were almost done with our meal. The servers need more training and a manager should be passing through the dining room periodically.
The food was wonderful!
I have been to this restaurant several times, in fact we always have it on our list when we visit the North Fork. It is far and away the best restaurant we have visited on Long Island and it rates well with any of the highly rated restaurants we visit in NYC. Food is always excellent as is the service. Each time I return I am excited to be reminded why I love the place so much. Anyone looking for a high quality fine dining experience would be well served to give this restaurant a try. You won't be disappointed.
