We loved the food! We each had a five course meal and specialty drinks that were fabulous. The only downside was the service was very slow...we liked our server, she was helpful and friendly but it just took a long time to get our food and drinks. I think they make everything fresh and made to order so that may be why it took so long. Just don’t expect a quick meal! We also like that they allow dogs in their outdoor seating area. That’s a plus for us...we like to be around dogs, and for those that don’t, they can always eat inside...very quaint in there.
I think this is just the yummiest place. Never have had anything I didn’t love! Feels like the city!
The food is good overall, except the salad dressing is a bit salty.
We are regulars at The Nook. It is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The owners are really nice and put their hearts into the restaurant. We love it.
Great holiday dining experience and such creative cocktails!
The Nook is normally a breakfast/brunch/lunch insider hot spot with just over 20 seats inside and about the same outside-although outside is a parking lot and the restaurant literally behind another restaurant. We were first timers fortunate to have lucked into their Christmas dinner popup. Once you enter, we were transported into culinary heaven. Our gift was a complimentary prosecco infused with cinnamon and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. The menu offered options for carnivore and herbivore food and presentation lovers.
We opted after great debate for the candied yam soup topped with a meringue and duck breast decked with kabocha squash puree and a pumpkin flan that had notes of a gingerbread brulee.
Honestly, everything looked and smelled amazing that came out of the kitchen.
Kudos to the owners and their philosophy and talent! In their own words, The Nook is the brainchild of co-owners Anicea Campanale and Hailey Berkey, and promises to prepare delicious food and drink with integrity, in a fun and approachable atmosphere.
Their regular daytime menu has some refreshing takes on classic daytime food.
Keep checking for their popups!
Totally unpretentious and Totally Good. The menu is not huge, but it is wide-ranging and we cannot think of too many people who could not find delightful fare at The Nook. The staff is polite, efficient, knowledgeable, and attentive. The fish was fresh, the duck tasty, and the Kauai shrimp ono. It is well worth discovering.
Dinner at the Nook was the best meal we had during our stay in Honolulu, eating out 3 meals a day. I'm so glad we tried it, and we will make a point to visit again. Located near the University, it requires a car or a Lyft if you're staying in Waikiki, but this tiny restaurant is well worth the trip. On the night we were there, the fish of the day was mahi mahi which was prepared perfectly, tender and moist, served with mushrooms and watercress. This dish was a revelation - I've had mahi mahi many times but never fully appreciated it until I had it at the Nook. My pear and spinach salad was also perfect - dressed beautifully and large enough to share with two others. My dining companions enjoyed their dishes too - the brilliant combination of creole with risotto, the fritto misto that included okra and fresh fennel, and the house-made pasta which is out of this world and rivals ay I've had in Italy. Any of the pasta dishes will be sure to please. The creative beer selection was appreciated too. All in all, just a really great little restaurant that should not be missed on a trip to Honolulu.
This was my second visit to The Nook and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times! They have lots of unique and creative dishes and drinks to choose from. Highly recommend the polenta fries, gumbo risotto, and the mochi churro.
The Nook is as close to a perfect neighborhood restaurant as you can get. Fabulous food creatively prepared from local ingredients, good wine list that is fairly priced, attentive service, happy staff at all levels and nice atmosphere. Dinner at The Nook was the very best meal I had in a month-long food exploration trip on Oahu. I would praise the owners/chefs personally but did not inquire about names.
First time having dinner at the Nook and it did not disappoint! Had a nice Asian pear salad with wilted spinach, followed by the spicy Gumbo risotto. Both were very tasty. Will go back for additional dinner ventures as well as brunch.
Friends & I tried this place after a show at DHT. I heard good things about brunch but we were there for dinner & the ostrich burger was intriging. My friend ordered it & it surprisingly tasted like ch... nope! Beef! The large bird had red meat unlike how we expected poultry to be & you want to preferably order it medium-rare. It was good & so were the polenta fries dipped in a spicy aioli. My kobacha linguine was meh... but I’d like to come back for brunch.
I ordered the dishes that turned out to be surprises because the menu was just so creative! Delicious food, fresh salad, friendly and understanding wait staff. The air conditioning was good. We had a great time!
A hidden gem in the mist of the University neighborhood. Creative menu, small but inviting environment. Overall, an enjoyable evening out with good friends.
Decided to try dinner as I have enjoyed their breakfast fare.
The starter tempura peppers was a bit too exotic for me. The salad was generous and fresh, and finally the entrée of duck was very good.
Good place with innovative menu items featuring local ingredients. Good vegetarian selection for a mixed group vegetarian and non.
Amazing Food, friendly staff, pretty cool craft cocktails, what more can you ask for?
Everything about the knuckles perfect makes for the best date experience in Honolulu! Such good food, such good service, such good drinks, and such great ambiance.
Always fresh, tasty, creative dining with great cocktails
Wonderful little place with very creative, delicious food. Highly recommended!
The clams never disappoint. Enjoyable meal to celebrate a birthday or everyday dining!
Creative menu that was flavorful and tasty. Must try the polenta fries with balsamic sauce. I look forward to going again.
We usually come to the Nook for brunch or lunch but dinner was just a fabulous! The clams were awesome and we will order them again. Also enjoyed the soup and pasta - overall a winner!
Listen. The Nook is possibly the best restaurant in Honolulu. Their service and menus (drinks, food, and dessert) were excellent - flawless. The food was sooo good. It was three of us, so we tasted one another's pupus, entrees, drinks, and desserts, and everything was delicious - everything. We had a fantastic time celebrating a business achievement on a Friday evening. Noise level is perfect for good conversation and laughter from yourselves and from others. Just an excellent dining experience from beginning to end. Thank you.
A great spot that is too easily missed. Perfect for after a concert or movie with great food and very friendly service. The Nook's menu offers plenty of options -- we've tried the lamb bolognaise, swordfish with pasta, hamburger, kabocha ravioli, salads ---all with great tastes. We can't figure out how this tiny place can succeed with every dish on their menu. But they do. Wine list is simple but good and good value and the cocktail menu looks great. Don't pass this gem up just because it is tucked away in an unattractive shopping plaza.
I really like the food, they taste amazing’
Service was excellent - wait staff was friendly and attentive...they even offered an umbrella to take us to our car in the rain. Food choices are creative (loved the Ostrich burger). Parking a little hum-bug but well worth the effort.
I’ve been to the nook for brunch before but this was my first time for dinner. It was amazing! one of my top 5 food experiences on Oahu. We had the sweet potato gnocchi and lamb Bolognese. For dessert we ate the lilikoi cannoli which was light and refreshing. It’s a little pricey but you totally get what you pay for with amazing food and locally sourced produce.
Very creative and tasty food from locally sourced products. Excellent cocktails and stellar service. I will be returning.
Love love this little place. Food is always fresh and yummy and we have a server Kirsten I think little things by girl such a positive and great attitude. She always serve us when we eat there. We love her. I mean everyone really nice. Dinner u can make reservation but breakfast u gotta wait for little to get table. But it’s so worth your time and money.
Love this place. First discovered it for a late brunch on Sunday and have been back every other week since. The beer, wine, and cocktail menu alone is worth the trip. You can tell that the chefs take great pride in the presentation of their dishes. They are so creative with the combination of ingredients they use in their meals its hard to not try something new everytime despite how amazing your previous experience was. Will be back for more.
Outstanding diner. The lamb Bolognese was amazing! Tomatoe poke salad and customized drinks! I wish I could go every night!
Great overall. Liittle too noisy, but food was really good.
Wonderful family meal. We were so impressed with the quality of our food and service. The gnocchi and clams were savory and well-seasoned (my 9-year-old begged for a second helping of the clams). The pasta had the most wonderful texture and flavor. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the ambience is homey and comfortable. Our family will definitely be back.
We so love this place! Every aspect of this little neighborhood gem is authentic and thoughtful. The food is wonderful and done with a subtle genius touch that is simple and not overbearing. The service is soothing. Please support this place! You'll be happy.
The food at The Nook is some of the most delicious in all of Honolulu, and not pretentious at all. However, the service is awkward and lacking. I ordered a drink when we sat down (we were the first party seated when they opened), and I didn't get my drink until halfway through my entree, almost 40 minutes later. I'll just get takeout from now on and drink at home, because the food IS really good. Highly recommend the ostrich burger, lamb ragu, and polenta fries.
Everything was a pleasure. Our waitress was 100%. The oyster appetizer is always my favorite. I wish they gave us more bread to soak up all the flavor in the soup. Duck was super tender and nice pairing with the sweet potato mash. I ordered the pork belly. The flavors were perfect with the fried kale and apple. The meat was a little dry, next time I will remember to ask for it to be cooked a little less. Over all, we had a really nice dinner.
Always an amazing experience. Inventive drinks and good choices, great service, eclectic “alley” location and vibe. Love it!
Hard to find, but totally worthy of the hunt. Amazing diversity of offerings with unique and succesful blending of flavors. Everything was really, really good. Gazpacho was amazing. Great gourmet burgers.
I was really upset about my dinner experience here. I ordered the duck (I've ordered this entrée in the past) and it arrived completely cold. Not lukewarm; we're talking cold. When I told my server, she took it back. Instead of bringing me a new meal, they just re-heated the dish. The duck was completely dry and the potatoes lost off of its moisture. For compensation, the server brought me an extra glass of wine, but I didn't want another glass of wine (and I didn't drink it). I came out for a good meal. I don't go out to eat to be served cold food that is then re-heated. Very disappointing.
