*We will only be serving our Restaurant Week Menu March 3rd-12th*

Located within Denver’s historic Tramway Building, originally opened in 1911, The Nickel pays homage to the space that was once used to collect fare from customers riding its resident streetcars: a nickel. Just as the building in which The Nickel is housed has a storied past, the dishes found on the menu at The Nickel all have a story. We proudly serve menus that incorporate the highest quality ingredients from farmers, ranchers, distillers and craft producers, and is comprised of dishes that are easily recognizable and feel simple, but eat complex. The restaurant aims to make all guests feel the warmth of familiarity within its doors. From our friendly and knowledgeable service team, to our sommelier curated wine program, to the centerpiece of our restaurant- The Barrel Bar - which offers house barrel-aged cocktails on tap.

Excellent food, and Kim, our server, was great. Very personable and professional, and didn't mind that we needed several wine tasters before settling on exactly which wine we wanted with our meal. She was friendly, cute, great smile, and overall our experience at The Nickel was lovely. No complaints!

The setting and service are great. The food (breakfast) was "meh." I had the western omelet. 19 clams is a lot for an omelet, even in the rarified world of the Denver restaurant scene, and I expected it to be particularly good. It was okay but overcooked. The potatoes that came with it were quite good. The toast was ... toast. My companion had a smoked salmon benedict for $22 and he thought it was fine, but nothing special. Also, the coffee comes in humongous cups, a peeve of mine because it gets cold so quickly. On the plus side, our server was friendly and efficient and the dining room is really a nice place to spend time. It was nice and quiet at 9 a.m. on a Sunday.

We had reservations at 6 o’clock. We were trying to get to a play at 7: 30 x 6 40. No one had brought us our drinks or our appetizer. The appetizer came without enough bread and we had to flag down our waitress in order to get another glass of wine. They were very busy And I understand but they were way overworked and understaffed. The food was mediocre at best. My daughter and I had chicken and my granddaughter had lasagna that she said it was very good. Our bill was $250 and we had to rush through her meal and ask her waiter to please bring our check when she brought our meal. We barely made it into the play before it started. We won’t be going back.

My experience started out with the waitress telling me that my drink order wasn’t very exciting, little did she know that I am a recovered alcoholic. We waited throughout the meal to see our waitress again, and the service was very slow. My friends at the table could’ve ordered three drinks in the time it took for our food to come. When the food arrived it was very boring and not terribly good. I won’t be back.

We had a very good experience at The Nickel, although we felt for the staff: they appear to be suffering what many others are: late of staff. We waited for more than 10 mins at the front of the restaurant to see the hostess, who was apparently bussing tables.:-(

Two previous times we have eaten here and it was terrific. This time was disappointing and not good. We were left waiting 20 minutes after our appetizer was finished before our server came to take our entree order. We then waited 25 minutes for the food - having to ask if it was going to come. We ordered salmon and chicken. The salmon was very good. The chicken was bland with little taste. The whipped potatoes with the chicken were cold. We won’t go back. Really disappointing to pay that much for dinner (~$120) for two of us to have poor service, poor kitchen timing, and cold tasteless food.

We took advantage of the very affordable valet service, making this an easy location to get to (and no worries about tickets!). It's a beautiful restaurant; seats are comfortable and you're not shoved into a table just inches from your neighbors, which we really appreciated. The service was good - but for those in a hurry, make sure to let the staff know. Nice selection of wine, beer, and cocktails. We tried a few appetizers (avocado tartar was quite good but it's really just an avocado-focused veggie plate with focaccia). I ordered the lamb with farro and it was perfect; highly recommend it. My husband had the fish (I can't remember what the fish was but he NEVER eats fish and he loved his. The risotto that accompanied his fish was fine - a little heavy and thick, so not outstanding). Our friend ordered the caprese and said it was terrific. All in all, well worth the visit, and while it's pricey, we'd definitely splurge to go there again.

Restaurant is not what it used to be. Food was average and extremely over priced. Server never refilled our water or explained our charcuterie board. Lamb was cooked to proper temp but the gastrique was not done well. The couscous salad was bland and cold. Vegetable lasagna was thick bell peppers with lack of sauce. Focaccia bread was the worst I have ever had. The only good part was the cocktails but for $18 each that’s ridiculous. For a price tag of $175 dollars with tip that was the most underwhelming meal in years. We canceled our brunch reservation and left early to go to McDonald’s which was worth the $15.

We returned because of a previous visit being so bad we were given a gift certificate. Morgan was our server this time. She did a nice job. The food was better, and yet nothing to brag about. We did see more help delivering food to tables and the food was hot this time. Thank you for honoring the gift certificate.

Very convenient for a pre-event dinner before the DCPA offerings. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Somewhat limited food selection, and although the presentations were nicely done, the food itself was average. Example: chicken salad had nice greens, but the chicken filets were overcooked and dry.

So disappointed in our meal at The Nickle. The tartare was just weird: sliced beef rather than ground. My salad was SO small and was not dressed very well so had to ask for more dressing. My fiancé tried the short ribs which had no carbs so he asked for an order of potatoes. $10 on top of a $40 entrée! The food was bland and we also had to ask for au jus to even consider eating it. Table had no salt/pepper. Probably the most annoying thing was our server set our food down and asked how it looked. She never came to to check on us so we had to get up, go to the hostess station after about 10 minutes to have her sent over. By then the food was cold. Poor service, awful food and super expensive. The entire meal came to over $150 for two people. Won't be going back.

This was one of our worst dining experiences. We waited over an hour for our entrees. The side dishes were cold and inedible. The entree salad was just large pieces of romaine for $18. The impossible burger was salty with a side of plain lettuce. The entrees are expensive and certainly not worth the price.

Three of us ate at the Nickel before attending a show at the DCPA. I love the ambiance there. The noise level is low so conversations are easily had. The Fettuccine Carbonera with Salmon was tasty and the salmon was cooked well. Two of us had the Pasta salad with Salmon and spring vegetables with a light basil sauce. One of the dishes seemed like it was sitting in a soup broth, the other didn't. They were good, the pasta itself was just average, but the rest of the dish was flavorful. Our server was there when needed, there were no refills on water or drinks though. So I would love to give it an outstanding review - but for the prices, a bit more attention to detail can still be had.

Our visit on Saturday, March 18 was not impressive. Soup lukewarm. Waiter inattentive, never refilled, never asked if we needed anything, over an hour wait for food. Main dish lukewarm, pasta dry and oily from sitting. Salad was ridiculously lame. So sorry this review is bad. Great location downtown but oh my!

As my review shows, the food at brunch was terrible. My omelet was filled with large chunks of ham with very little cheese in it, making it quite dry. My toast had whipped butter (?) slathered on cold pieces of toast, most unappetizing and tasteless. My son’s quesadilla was full of raw onion, not even sautéed, making it unpleasant to eat. The only redeemable feature of the meal were the potatoes, not worth the price we paid. Our server was very friendly and apologetic for our unfortunate meal.

My Wife and I came for dinner before the ballet. She was unsure of what she wanted, so our server, Dusty, described each dish perfectly, allowing her to decide. She picked the lobster ravioli, which ended up being fantastic. I had the prosciutto wrapped pork loin, which was very tasty, too. For dessert, Dusty recommended the Brown Sugar Pound Cake. The light maple glaze with the candied pecans was another winning choice.
