A very "happening" place with lots of people to watch. It was very busy which may account for the long wait for our food to appear. Once it did, the two people who ordered the butternut squash soup had to request that it be heated again as it was cold. It was promptly replaced. The pecan crusted salmon entree was delicious, as was the butternut squash soup. We would highly recommend both.
Food and atmosphere was exceptional!
Very happening place. We asked for and ordered off of the Late Night menu even though it was 6pm. Although not listed, we had a cup of the butternut squash soup. It is the best. A cup is very satisfying and a bowl would make a meal. The "build a burger" is a great choice. The fish and chips was not as good as the last time I had it...too much batter, not enough fish. The amount of french fries is almost overwhelming. Generous to the extreme.
We enjoyed a great dinner before a show. The server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was awesome. Will definitely return.
staff is incredibly kind and helpful. food is good. happy hour is the best value i have encountered. we each ordered a Margarita flatbread thinking we would order a full meal after. but, the HH offerings are full sized portions and that was all we could eat. everything that came out looked delicious, and i will return to try them all. i won't order that particular flatbread again, however - too much pesto.
we were seated in a back room - less crowded, less noisy, fine with us. but, when we ordered, our waiter told us we could not order HH items in that room. he quickly found us another table, and was very nice about it, but we should have been told that when we arrived.
overall a good experience and we will return for sure.
It was a quiet Friday night due to the spring break and Good Friday. The food was very good as usual but the service was a little slow. Typically we’ve had very good service so I'd chalk it up to an off night. The bacon chop was amazing!
Went here for a lunch meeting with my coworkers. The food was prompt, warm (cold for the salad) and everyone at all of their food. Everyone was happy and full after the meal, it was well worth the price.
We arrived fairly late on Saturday night (9PM) with a group of 9. The restaurant wasn't busy, with maybe ten tables filled at most. We loved the ambiance, and were happy with the large variety of choices on the menu. Most of us ordered pasta, flatbread, or salad, and all were tasty. Sadly, we were disappointed in the service. Our waitress was incredibly slow to initially say hello, to take our order and to bring the bill. We had to go ask for the bills, and then, when she did drop them off, we had to wait forever for her to come back for our payment. It was after 11:00 and everyone was tired and ready to leave. It was too bad that service wasn't better here because it was a fun place.
Reservation for table of 7, pasta and sandwich orders only, over 1 hour to receive meals.
The restaurant was very loud. It was hard to maintain a conversation. The food was okay, I liked the closeness to Orchestra Hall.
One of the best meals my husband and I have had in a while! This was our first time there, but we will be back! The noise level was more low to moderate, and it was St. Patrick's day, so potentially less noise other days.
Very good food, nice location from downtown motels & convention center. good seating for larger group
Always good food. Always good service. When anyone adds The News Room to the choices of where to go for a week day lunch, I always pick The News Room.
Went before a show at the Orpheum. Server was mindful of time and food was great.
Matt, our waiter, was excellent!
So noisy!
Great food, we had the meatloaf flight, oh, so, delicious!
Would have liked a white wine happy hour selection on Friday.
Went for dinner before a Timberwolves game. Nice to find a place where we could get reservations. We were seated and served promptly. We were there during happy hour and there were some great selections very moderately priced. Overall, everyone enjoyed their food.
Service was good, menu was a little funky for my tastes, would like more plainer food but that is just my taste. Felt it was very expensive but I also know that it is always like that in that area. I would probably eat somewhere else out of downtown before the theater next time.
Fun atmosphere ,good food, very outgoing staff. We loved it!
The host never even acknowledged our reservation, we had to wait 10 minutes before they even asked us why we were there. We told them when we arrived that we used open table, but they told us to step to the side. When we finally got seated and received some lukewarm food, the contents were gummy, greasy, and not appetizing all. The only thing that wasn’t too cold or too slimy was the wooden proteins that my date and I received. I normally just ignore these email invitations for surveys, but I felt the obligation to warn anyone that makes the mistake of blowing almost a hundred dollars on this nonsense.
Any date night or when friends come into town, I always suggest the News Room because I love the ambiance of the restaurant and the food! Their cocktails are fairly good, plus, they have the most extensive bottled beer selection I've seen in the cities. The staff is always extremely friendly and courteous. I'll definitely be back!
Excellent place for pre concert dinner. Varied menu let us eat light with full flavor.
High energy yet intimate.
Found The Newsroom on Open Table for dinner with a good friend and we were pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was phenomenal and made awesome suggestions for food and drinks. Fun atmosphere. Food was amazing. We got the Brie cheese curds which were outstanding, she got the Alfredo and I got the Meatloaf Trio which both blew us away. The goat cheese cheesecake with black lava salt on top for desert is one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had! Definitely worth a visit!
We waited for almost an hour for our meal. We even asked after 45 minutes if we could get the soup. Waiting again. I had to stop the waitress and tell her we had to leave 15 minutes. She said that we should have told her we were in a hurry. AND that it was Saturday night. We asked for our bill when got our food. Could not eat the soup; no time. Rushed through dinner so not sure if was good or not. No apolgy given and we all knew it was Saturday night so why were they not prepared. We had a show at orchestra hall so had to rush. Not a fun experience.
Food was good but the service was not. It took us over a half hour to get our food. Our server was not attentive, and only after we searched her down to ask where our food was did she say, "Oh, I'll go check", did we get our food. The restaurant was not full so we should have had better service. The music was too loud and made any table conversation difficult. Will not recommend or return. Too many other better options in downtown Mpls.
Really cool ambiance, food was delicious, drinks were great. The filet was amazing... I've never had a steak so tender.
As always, the food, service, and atmosphere were all perfect. The Filet was the best steak I’ve had in many years. The server, as well as the wait-assists, were all absolutely friendly, courteous, and professional. I wish I could remember my server’s name! We were in the Entertainment room on Valentine’s evening, and our server was a tall-ish brunette in her late-20s or early-30s, with shoulder length hair. Our evening couldn’t have been better, due mainly to the staff, both FOH and BOH. (Omfg, the food was AMAZING.)
Such a unique theme love the decor
The food was superb, steak was done to perfection the potatoes were delicious, drinks were tasty as well. Great customer service all around. Lots of people but still did not seem noisy.
The food was wonderful. Our only complaint was that when we asked the server for a recommendation, he said he liked everything, which was kind of annoying. When someone asks for a recommendation, just say one of the foods you really love and help us make a decision. We'll asked to be seated away from the TVs next time.
Love the blueberry ketchup and brie!
The server could have been more friendly. The food and atmosphere were good.
Lunch before the Super Bowl. Great location
Very good food
Dishwasher may have been broken on the day we ate there as every plate and utensil was dirty. Had to repeatedly ask for clean dishes and finally just wiped some down ourselves.
Otherwise very good food and a fun place.
I normally like Newsroom. We were disappointed this visit. We came on Superbowl Sunday, with Superbowl happening in Minneapolis and all of the festivities happening right outside their windows -I thought it would be a great place. Wrong! Most of the people in the bar at 10:30 on Superbowl sunday had jerseys on and were visitors for the Superbowl and all related activites and excitement. Newsroom had no special menu for this occasion, they actually had soccer on the tv and were playing slow "dinner music", quite a buzz kill. Service was good, food was good but management really missed the mark on what could have been a fun event!
Good breakfast before the superbowl.
Fun, happy place to sit and gab with family or friends. Friendly staff.
Super Bowl - lunch.
We were there during. the super bowl week. Packed and freezing cold in there. My husbands buffalo steak was awesome but my lasagna was boring. The sauce tasted like tomatoes straight from the can. Overpriced for the atmosphere and quality.
A great place to eat and drink during Super Bowl weekend!
The food was ok but absolutely not worth the price we paid. I have a feeling they were cashing in on Super Bowl opportunities as our menu said “Super Bowl Edition”. and the bill was atrocious. This was my first visit and very likely my last. I’m pretty sure Applebee’s has better food for a fourth of the cost. Our server was great despite the chaos.
Great service and food during SuperBowl weekend!
Outstanding food and good atmosphere. The waiter was awesome and very attentive for how extremely busy it was (Friday before Superbowl).
