The News Room Ratings and Reviews
As always, the food, service, and atmosphere were all perfect. The Filet was the best steak I’ve had in many years. The server, as well as the wait-assists, were all absolutely friendly, courteous, and professional. I wish I could remember my server’s name! We were in the Entertainment room on Valentine’s evening, and our server was a tall-ish brunette in her late-20s or early-30s, with shoulder length hair. Our evening couldn’t have been better, due mainly to the staff, both FOH and BOH. (Omfg, the food was AMAZING.)
The food was wonderful. Our only complaint was that when we asked the server for a recommendation, he said he liked everything, which was kind of annoying. When someone asks for a recommendation, just say one of the foods you really love and help us make a decision. We'll asked to be seated away from the TVs next time.
Love the blueberry ketchup and brie!
I normally like Newsroom. We were disappointed this visit. We came on Superbowl Sunday, with Superbowl happening in Minneapolis and all of the festivities happening right outside their windows -I thought it would be a great place. Wrong! Most of the people in the bar at 10:30 on Superbowl sunday had jerseys on and were visitors for the Superbowl and all related activites and excitement. Newsroom had no special menu for this occasion, they actually had soccer on the tv and were playing slow "dinner music", quite a buzz kill. Service was good, food was good but management really missed the mark on what could have been a fun event!
The food was ok but absolutely not worth the price we paid. I have a feeling they were cashing in on Super Bowl opportunities as our menu said “Super Bowl Edition”. and the bill was atrocious. This was my first visit and very likely my last. I’m pretty sure Applebee’s has better food for a fourth of the cost. Our server was great despite the chaos.
Was there for a dinner before enjoying some of the Superbowl activities downtown on 1/30/18. It was not over the top busy. It was clear that they were not prepared to serve food quickly or hot. It was not the kind of food or service that would have been appealing to all of the out of town visitors. Very disappointing ,not only for us but for our city .
This was an abysmal experience. The restaurant ran out of fries to serve with burgers at 7.30pm on a Saturday. The room in which we were seated with about 8 tables was not served food for almost 2 hours - nobody. And there were no apologies or explanations given unless we asked. The lasagne tasted like it had been microwaved from a box when it came. Shrimp linguini was poor. I think the kitchen had stopped functioning.
Awful experience. Waited over an hour to get food. Ordered an appetizer that never came. Kids grilled cheese was so cold by the time it got to us that it literally was just a cheese sandwich. Mine came out cold. Another persons was burnt. Couldn’t find our waitress to give us our bill.
They used the excuse that they were busy - it was a Saturday night during Super Bowl live. It was predictabley a busy day. If you weren’t prepared to handle the crowd then why take our reservations?
The Newsroom was very accommodating for our big party. Our server was great. The food was average. Portions were small for the price. I got the citrus ahi salad and for the price, I should have had more tuna on my plate. The kids meal was pricey but it came with a lot of food - more than the salads on our table. We also know it is a busy time with the super bowl coming but our food took forever to come.
I made a reservation for our party of 13. However, when we arrived, we had to wait 20+ minutes before we were seated. We were not offered anything (like a free app) for having to wait so long to be seated. Then it took about 1/2 hour for our food to arrive - although it was courteous of the host to tell us their kitchen was running slow.
Nice enough place, and the food was ok, but with so many other good restaurants in downtown Mpls., I doubt I'll be back.
This place certainly has potential but unfortunately they were so backed up that we did not get a chance to enjoy. We had a 6:30 reservation and, by the time we got seated and a waitress got to us with drinks, it was already 7:00. As we had a show to attend, we asked about the wait time and were told that the kitchen was almost an hour behind. As a result we ended up just ordering aps and salads that could be done quickly. Even then, it took 40 minutes to get our food and we had to eat quickly to get done and out. The waitress was very apologetic and was surprised they hadn't informed us when we arrived that they were so behind.
We had a wonderful time with family. We got to sit at a nice table by candle light ( could have been a littler brighter for it was hard to see the menu, had to use our phones to see the menu). The place was really busy but you would have never had known that it was, they were on top of things and made sure we were ok the whole time.
Thanks for the great service and food!!
It was fine. Good beer. They do something kind of irritating though- they give you a menu that has some fancy more costly choices and somewhere in the menu there is a statement that says something like “ for our late night bar menu that includes burgers and other late night choices ask your server.” When we asked the server he said we can order off that menu any time, not just late night. 🙄 Just put the burgers on the menu or at least bring both menus at the start. Duh. I know they want to appear classier or fancier but face it newsroom you are a giant bar with fairly decent food.
We had a party of 3 for New Years Eve and we all loved it. All the dishes we had were delicious and it's so fun to look at each room decorated as a section of a newspaper! It was a bit loud in the Sports section room but we could still talk. Overall, a great experience!
The only issue regarded our seating. I arrived before the rest of the party and was sat at a table. I waited for 15 minutes only to find that the rest of my party was sat at another table in a different area. They asked for my name when they arrived and were told I hadn’t arrived yet. A little awkward when I had to move tables and notify my server what was going on. It wasn’t even busy in there so not sure why the mix up occurred.
We had a group of 12 dining before a concert. The staff was very helpful and attentive to getting us served and out the door on time. Our waitress was great. She split up the bill perfectly so that the checkout was fast. The food and drinks were great and we thought it was priced right. We will definitely come back when we have more time to enjoy the ambiance.
We had dinner before a nite at the Orpheum. The food was good and the service was great. My husband was able to glance at the TVs to keep up on his Fantasy Football:) I had the meatloaf sampler and it was very yummy. 3 different kinds of meatloaf with a different side dish to go with each one. The nite was cold and windy so it was perfect comfort food for the weather.
I’m not sure if The News Room was busier than anticipated tonight but we arrived early and had to wait for our reservation to be ready while others walked in without reservations and were seated ahead of us. The service was really slow without acknowledgement and three of our four meals were over cooked. We’ve been here before with better experiences and hoping tonight was not the norm going forward.
