The News Room Ratings and Reviews
We had a party of 3 for New Years Eve and we all loved it. All the dishes we had were delicious and it's so fun to look at each room decorated as a section of a newspaper! It was a bit loud in the Sports section room but we could still talk. Overall, a great experience!
The only issue regarded our seating. I arrived before the rest of the party and was sat at a table. I waited for 15 minutes only to find that the rest of my party was sat at another table in a different area. They asked for my name when they arrived and were told I hadn’t arrived yet. A little awkward when I had to move tables and notify my server what was going on. It wasn’t even busy in there so not sure why the mix up occurred.
We had a group of 12 dining before a concert. The staff was very helpful and attentive to getting us served and out the door on time. Our waitress was great. She split up the bill perfectly so that the checkout was fast. The food and drinks were great and we thought it was priced right. We will definitely come back when we have more time to enjoy the ambiance.
We had dinner before a nite at the Orpheum. The food was good and the service was great. My husband was able to glance at the TVs to keep up on his Fantasy Football:) I had the meatloaf sampler and it was very yummy. 3 different kinds of meatloaf with a different side dish to go with each one. The nite was cold and windy so it was perfect comfort food for the weather.
I’m not sure if The News Room was busier than anticipated tonight but we arrived early and had to wait for our reservation to be ready while others walked in without reservations and were seated ahead of us. The service was really slow without acknowledgement and three of our four meals were over cooked. We’ve been here before with better experiences and hoping tonight was not the norm going forward.
The food was fair. The service was slow. We received our salads after the entrees. We were also billed twice for each entry and had to return the bill to be corrected. It is very inconvenient getting there since it is located in Nicollet Mall. We were approached twice to and from the restaurant by panhandler. We did not feel safe. Never again.
We selected this restaurant due to its location , close to orchestra hall. Our server was fine, the appetizer cheese plate was very good. Our entrees were just meh....The meatloaf flight was super dry, neat idea, not very tasty. Husbands steak was good, but not the potatoes. Okay place....but there are lots of other choices.
We had tickets for an event at Orchestra Hall and needed a place for dinner nearby. We were seated and our server waited on us quickly taking our drink order. The lighting was very low and made for challenging reading of the menu. We asked for recommendations and were pleased with all of our entrees. Would go back to try more options.
What a gem! I have never been to the News Room and didn't know what to expect. We were looking for a restaurant close to Orchestra Hall. I loved the newspaper theme and creative ambiance. The food was delicious. We had a table tucked away with two other tables which made it feel more intimate. We will go again!
News Room food was very good although they ran out of one of the items I wanted. When we arrived the restaurant was very busy and the service was a little slow. As the restaurant cleared out service did get better. The bar scene was lively and looked like it would be great for happy hour.
One of my favorite restaurants. Usually I stick to the simple sandwich or wings, but got the pesto chicken tortellini. OH MY GOD I dream about it. Their martinis are huge and delicious. If you have anything at all, brie curds with the blueberry ketchup. Don't be scared of the description, it's outstanding.
My family of 5 attended The News Room for Thanksgiving dinner. This was our first experience dining here. Our reservation was for 1:15 pm. We arrived 35 minutes early and were seated right away. The sun was in the way of one of our guests when we sat down. The young woman who seated us, very politely asked if she could close the drapes for us and did so promptly. Stuart D. was our waiter. He was knowledgeable and attentive. We were the only table seated in the room when we arrived and asked for the TV to be changed to the Vikings game. We were obliged by our request. The meal was delivered quickly by three different wait staff. The plate was displayed beautifully and the food was delicious. One of the reasons we chose The News Room was the cost of the Thanksgiving dinner. Very reasonably priced. We followed up with dessert and coffee. Our coffee cups were refilled often, just the way we like it. We lingered after the meal for more game-watching and conversation.
This was a wonderful experience for those of us who no longer cook and for those of us who don't like to cook. Thank you for our memorable outing.
We needed a quieter area for a hard of hearing guest and for the most part we got that. The service and food was excellent. Our waiter was clearly busy, but it was a Friday night and the tables were full even in this out-of-the-way room. We keep coming back to this restaurant because we are continually satisfied here. Thanks to the staff for making us feel welcome.
We had not heard much about The News Room, but thought we'd give it a try before a symphony event. We were pleasantly surprised and will come back. The menu has something for everyone, interesting twists on many items, and nice drink/wine/beer options. Both the Peppered Pork Roast and the Pork Shank were tasty and generous portions; the appetizer eggplant was excellent - could have been an entree itself. Service was good but could have been a bit more polished. Overall pleased with our choice to try The News Room!
Excellent service, but unfortunately, I didn't remember our server's name. She answered our questions and had great suggestions as we had never been there before. The food was outstanding! We had wings for an appetizer, along with a craft beer and glass of wine. I had the peppered pork cutlet while my wife had the Jambalaya pasta. We had martinis for desert and they were awesome as well. The total tab was a bit higher than expected ($112 before tip) for the two of us, but we did have two containers (love the take home containers!) of leftovers for two more meals at home. Overall, a great place for dinner!
The wait staff appeared to be "put off" having to serve lunch. Waiter was impatient; when asked what he recommended he simply said " The Cobb salad is what we sell the most; the chicken panni is the most popular sandwich." So get your order in and don't bother me.... When the wrong food was brought to our table, it was if it was our fault. Ask for a fork...let me slam a set up on your table. Lunch was $50 for two, plus tip. Staff was evidently busy preparing for future customers- which will not be us.
Bathroom is poorly marked - attempt to be cool with design. Minimal privacy.
Average decent food with no sparks. We ordered the shrimp cakes for our appetizer. There were 3 cakes over a slaw. The shrimp cakes were dry and the taste of defrosted seafood was strong so we just ate the slaw. The waiter cleared the plate with the cakes without even asking what was wrong.
For entrees, the ahi tuna was good (however the side dish that came with it was too salty) . The blue and black salmon salad was ok. Overall - average No reason to go back
It was our first time visiting The News Room. The four of us all ordered very different entrees. The portions were generous and all were very good, especially the squash soup. It was the best squash soup I have ever tasted. Looking forward to visiting again.
We had a big group after we tried our luck at an escape room. Very good waiter. My food was very good as I had the bone in short rib. Probably not a good choice if you're someone that likes large portion sizes. I got a bite of jambalaya which was a good sized serving and tasted good. Everyone was happy.
