The News Room
Whether planning a casual gathering or a private dinner, The News Room offers a multiplicity of space to adapt easily to any event. Conveniently located on the Nicollet Mall strip in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, we are only steps away from many hotels, Orchestra Hall, and just a few blocks from The Target Center & Target Field, The Orpheum, Pantages and State Theaters.
Very hearty meal and excellent cocktails. Would recommend for a group on a business trip.
Good dining experience for a moderate price. Being right on Nicollet is fun and provides people watching left and right. plenty of garage parking nearby and you can access this buinding via the skyway. I enjoy the News Room for a casual date, or for entertaining friends. The atmosphere is friendly and enjoyable.
There were 9 of us. Not many restaurants will accommodate a group that large at one table. Kevin took care of us without a flaw. Food was great. We could carry on a conversation without competing with those around us. We'll be going back again!
Was warned that service would be slow due to large volume of customers but it was way too slow. Food arrived over an hour after orders placed. Several large tables near us were served their food before us when they had ordered after us. Server never refilled drinks or checked on us.
The food was very good, as usual. The service was extremely slow.
Our party of three enjoyed a fabulous brunch at The News Room. They roast their own coffee, and it was strong and delicious. Service was prompt and helpful, with recommendations for dishes. Our table had a custom omelet, chilaquiles (amazing) and biscuits and gravy. No to go boxes at the end, as everyone finished everything. Portions are good sized, but no so large that you feel like you have over indulged. A lovely meal, lots of menu choices. We will be back!
Service wasn’t great. Food was good. The eggs Benedict flight was good.
The food was so good. Thank you to the servers.
The food was good, but our service was pretty bad. We went on a Saturday evening, so I'm sure they were busy, but our server never even checked on us. He was incredibly slow and not friendly or helpful at all. He took our order and brought us our check but that's about it. We won't go back.
Awesome meal as always! Service was great. One of our go-to places when we come into the cities
I had the braised spare rib with risotto. Meat was very fatty and tough. Told our waiter Chester about it and he very quickly took it off the bill. Had a flatbread for an appetizer and it was very good. Based on how they handled this I would go back and try something else.
Excellent food and a good ambiance. Our waiter was a bit talkative but we generally enjoyed the dining experience
Server wasn’t the friendliest, our food was half way gone before he checked on us. Which to me is unacceptable when you didn’t bring our food out to us. As the server you should check within 5 minutes. I think the food is over priced. I asked for a side of ranch to go with my calamari. Got the. I’ll and was charged 75 cents. Had I known there was going to be a charge I wouldn’t of asked for it. The atmosphere was nice, we sat outside and got to people watch downtown. The first time I went to The News Room it was much better!
A group of us visited on a Friday night and we sat outside....such a great patio. The food was amazing as was our server! Overall a great place to eat if in the downtown area!
Great service. Table was ready early. Separate checks without asking for all 16 of us! Great experience even with such a large group. Thank you!
We had a great time with our College son and his friends. Our waiter was awesome but I can not remember his name. We always our time at the News Room.
They have a new brunch menu which had some good items on. Asked if the Benedict flight could be vegetarian. They said yes then served one with a bacon waffle. Then a series of silly events occurred when we asked for a replacement. First they brought just a pain English muffin. When we complained they next brought a poached egg with a sauce over it - I guess it was make your own benefit time!
The omelets and the Mediterranean breakfast were great!
The News Room is fantastic!! The food was the best I've had in Minneapolis! Great presentation, flavor, everything was terrific!! The service was impeccable - very knowledgable wait staff. Everyone must go!
The ambiance was the best! I brought friends from out of town for Saturday brunch and everyone loved the food! All of the décor was fun, and it the location was ideal for them as they were staying downtown and went to a concert at the Target Center the night before. Highly recommend!
The food choices on the menu is amazing. I haven't had a meal from there that I have not loved yet! I don't believe there's anything on the menu that you would not be satisfied eating.
Service was great, the ambiance was fantastic and the food was great. Would recommend to anyone visiting Minneapolis.
We made the decision to eat outside which was probably not the best choice as there was a Lutheran convention in town and people were constantly streaming by our table. But that was on us. Other wise the service was good though I would have appreciated a chance to enjoy our appetizers before the entree came.
We always enjoy the food we order at News Room but have an issue with how long it takes to eat lunch there. Most business lunch hours are only an hour and several times now we have been scrambling to get our meal eaten in time because it takes so long for the food to come. We have learned to ask for our tab to come with the food so we can get settled up before we eat but that is always disruptive to our meal. Just wish you could speed things up a bit at lunch!
Great drinks and food! Fun atmosphere! Great location too!
We love this place. We live in Southern California, but last time we were in Minneapolis, we visited The News Room and loved it. Now that we are back (both times for conferences), we were excited to go back to visit.
Great spot with historical significance. We had two pasta dishes and would give both high marks.
Amazing food outstanding service ! Highly recommend the Brie cheese curd !
They were running behind on food by 45 min, which was not great but they at least told us when we were being seated. However, they informed us there was an “accident” so one people in our 8 person group didn’t get their food until 30 min later, after we were all done. Very annoying and not one compensation and charged full price for that meal. Pretty bad in my opinion. Food was okay, service was okay.
Service was terrible and we ate somewhere else went and ate at ROHO across the street
The food and drink selections were great. The wait staff seemed to be a little thin and over worked.
Always great food and service! A great spot for lunch and we do go there often.
We ordered the cauliflower bake for an appetizer. The tomato sauce base was unusual, I thought it would be more of a cream based. The tomato sauce was too strong for the vegetables. I ordered the salmon with noodles tomatoes zucchini and capers. The menu did NOT say anything about having onions in it but it was loaded with onions. Had I known that I would have asked for the dish without onions. My sister-in-law ordered the beef lasagna. It used the same strong tomato sauce as a base and again it was a little strong for the dish.
My family and I love going to The News Room for our celebrations. The food is excellent, great drink list, outstanding service, and a lot of TVs to watch the Twins win!!
Two of my friends and I had a show and decided to eat here. We had an amazing experience. The waiter was great and had good recommendations. We had a couple specialty martinis which were great. We had the Brie bites appetizer served with blueberry ketchup which we liked. One of us had the tenderloin, scallop carbonara and Cobb salad and we all were satisfied by the quality and taste. We’d go again!
Yes, it was good. A little spendy but big portions. Service was pretty good!
We were in Minneapolis on business and someone recommended this place. Really underwhelming, and pricy for Minneapolis. We had the scallop and pasta dish, which had zero flavor. I added salt and pepper, which I never do, and still couldn't eat half. Steak and gnocchi were also overcooked and without flavor, despite Worcestershire in the name. The barrel-aged Manhattan was mediocre, too sweet. We didn't try the Brie curds, because they were deep-fried and that wasn't the curds we were in the mood for. Service was half-way attentive, but not interested in our experience or us being there. Probably wouldn't return.
We sat on the patio, which ended up being very noisy with the bus line passing every few minutes. The food and service were excellent.
Food was awful, inedible and bland.
Everything was great! We were there for Mother's Day - and they accommodated out group of 7 no problem. Will be back!
Great food and atmosphere. We came for Mother's Day with a party of 8 which was not problem at all. Service was a bit slow but it didn't affect our good time.
