Yeah, it has kind of a sports bar vibe, but the service is always good and the food is reliably great!
The food was delicious. Portions are generous. You can easily take half home to eat later. Our table had the salmon almondine, build your own kobe burger, cordon bleu, and the forager burger. Each entrée was spectacular. Great place to meet with friends.
We had a party of 20, and the service was great, the food was amazing, and our dinner event was memorable.
It took nearly an hour for us to get our food. We ended up wolfing down half our food and taking the rest with us because we had to get back to work.
Fantastic wait staff bent over backwards to advise us about many food items, and to make us just plain happy with everything! Food was creative and delicious. Several of our group had Ahi salad with an avocado puree, and the just-right Ahi sparkled with oceanic freshness, just as fish served (correctly) mostly raw like Sushi, must. Beautiful to behold, even more beautiful to eat. We loved the warm bread and butter which might have been whipped with just a whiff of honey in it - super yum! Another of our party had the innovative yet comforting "flight of meatloaf", and it exuded urban vibes - not your Mother's meatloaf here, but 3 kinds of specially crafted meatloaf served with 3 different sides - that plate got scraped clean by my friend who savored every bite. All together, a nifty downtown Minneapolis restaurant on Nicollet Mall.
It was a long wait for our lunch. BLT was cold. Overall good experience.
The News Room was a hit! We had a wide range of ages and food tastes and all were very pleased with the menu choices and the food ordered. They have great tables for large groups.
Tasty appetizers & drinks, good service!
Had reservations for 8 at 4:30 on a Monday, not really needed, but wanted to be sure since it was after my sons U of MN graduation. We had an attentive waitress, that was helpful with beer selections. Food was excellent! Everyone loved what they had - Farfalle, Jambalaya, Shrimp Linguine, Cordon Bleu, Peppered Pork Tenderloin, Bone-In Short Rib Risotto.
The Jambalaya is my favorite, I've had it and recommended it to my son - he loved it!! We both like spicy things. We also all shared a piece of cheesecake and the salted chocolate torte-everyone was full, so a bite of each was perfect.
The Pom-a-dor martini is yummy!!
Due to the time of day it wasn't really crowded so we could easily converse. A great time was had by all! Definitely recommend it!!
We always stop at the news room when we are in town and are never disappointed. After a slow start which was our fault for moving table, we enjoyed the cheese plate and deep fried Brie, the shrimp cakes were a unique take on crab cakes, the wasabi sauce and slaw were a nice compliment. We then moved on to the ahi tuna and dry aged strip steak (which we can’t get a the turf room, another one of our favorites) We finished with the root beer cookies.
I can't complain too much as I chose to eat there twice...Once for dinner and once for lunch..
Service is outstanding as is the very cool newspaper decor...And reasonably priced for a downtown eatery...
Complaints..Ran out of fish (any type of fish) for dinner..and my lunch rueben was off in taste..(the club sandwich looked awesome)...
Otherwise, my lasagna for dinner was excellent, chicken rice, butternut squash and minestrone were all good soups and all my customers enjoyed their meals..
In addition, drinks were reasonably priced as well...
Service super fast and friendly....
Other notice is that the bread served with dinner is very good, but they only serve with a sweetened butter, which doesn't go well when your eating a pasta dish...Wish they would offer an option on the butter...
Great local restaurant with outside seating. Food delicious and setting lovely on a warm Minneapolis evening!
The food is always perfect at the Newsroom. Recommend to anyone looking for a nice atmosphere & a delicious menu.
This was a great day treat outside! The outside seating is so great here and the menu offers many options.
They let us reserve a table on open table and then when we arrived, they told us they “ran out of food”. How could they know what we were going to order. Pathetic place.
A very "happening" place with lots of people to watch. It was very busy which may account for the long wait for our food to appear. Once it did, the two people who ordered the butternut squash soup had to request that it be heated again as it was cold. It was promptly replaced. The pecan crusted salmon entree was delicious, as was the butternut squash soup. We would highly recommend both.
Food and atmosphere was exceptional!
Very happening place. We asked for and ordered off of the Late Night menu even though it was 6pm. Although not listed, we had a cup of the butternut squash soup. It is the best. A cup is very satisfying and a bowl would make a meal. The "build a burger" is a great choice. The fish and chips was not as good as the last time I had it...too much batter, not enough fish. The amount of french fries is almost overwhelming. Generous to the extreme.
We enjoyed a great dinner before a show. The server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was awesome. Will definitely return.
staff is incredibly kind and helpful. food is good. happy hour is the best value i have encountered. we each ordered a Margarita flatbread thinking we would order a full meal after. but, the HH offerings are full sized portions and that was all we could eat. everything that came out looked delicious, and i will return to try them all. i won't order that particular flatbread again, however - too much pesto.
we were seated in a back room - less crowded, less noisy, fine with us. but, when we ordered, our waiter told us we could not order HH items in that room. he quickly found us another table, and was very nice about it, but we should have been told that when we arrived.
overall a good experience and we will return for sure.
It was a quiet Friday night due to the spring break and Good Friday. The food was very good as usual but the service was a little slow. Typically we’ve had very good service so I'd chalk it up to an off night. The bacon chop was amazing!
Went here for a lunch meeting with my coworkers. The food was prompt, warm (cold for the salad) and everyone at all of their food. Everyone was happy and full after the meal, it was well worth the price.
We arrived fairly late on Saturday night (9PM) with a group of 9. The restaurant wasn't busy, with maybe ten tables filled at most. We loved the ambiance, and were happy with the large variety of choices on the menu. Most of us ordered pasta, flatbread, or salad, and all were tasty. Sadly, we were disappointed in the service. Our waitress was incredibly slow to initially say hello, to take our order and to bring the bill. We had to go ask for the bills, and then, when she did drop them off, we had to wait forever for her to come back for our payment. It was after 11:00 and everyone was tired and ready to leave. It was too bad that service wasn't better here because it was a fun place.
Reservation for table of 7, pasta and sandwich orders only, over 1 hour to receive meals.
The restaurant was very loud. It was hard to maintain a conversation. The food was okay, I liked the closeness to Orchestra Hall.
One of the best meals my husband and I have had in a while! This was our first time there, but we will be back! The noise level was more low to moderate, and it was St. Patrick's day, so potentially less noise other days.
Very good food, nice location from downtown motels & convention center. good seating for larger group
Always good food. Always good service. When anyone adds The News Room to the choices of where to go for a week day lunch, I always pick The News Room.
Went before a show at the Orpheum. Server was mindful of time and food was great.
Matt, our waiter, was excellent!
Great food, we had the meatloaf flight, oh, so, delicious!
Would have liked a white wine happy hour selection on Friday.
Went for dinner before a Timberwolves game. Nice to find a place where we could get reservations. We were seated and served promptly. We were there during happy hour and there were some great selections very moderately priced. Overall, everyone enjoyed their food.
Service was good, menu was a little funky for my tastes, would like more plainer food but that is just my taste. Felt it was very expensive but I also know that it is always like that in that area. I would probably eat somewhere else out of downtown before the theater next time.
Fun atmosphere ,good food, very outgoing staff. We loved it!
The host never even acknowledged our reservation, we had to wait 10 minutes before they even asked us why we were there. We told them when we arrived that we used open table, but they told us to step to the side. When we finally got seated and received some lukewarm food, the contents were gummy, greasy, and not appetizing all. The only thing that wasn’t too cold or too slimy was the wooden proteins that my date and I received. I normally just ignore these email invitations for surveys, but I felt the obligation to warn anyone that makes the mistake of blowing almost a hundred dollars on this nonsense.
Any date night or when friends come into town, I always suggest the News Room because I love the ambiance of the restaurant and the food! Their cocktails are fairly good, plus, they have the most extensive bottled beer selection I've seen in the cities. The staff is always extremely friendly and courteous. I'll definitely be back!
Excellent place for pre concert dinner. Varied menu let us eat light with full flavor.
High energy yet intimate.
Love the Lasagne. Great service and apps as well.
Found The Newsroom on Open Table for dinner with a good friend and we were pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was phenomenal and made awesome suggestions for food and drinks. Fun atmosphere. Food was amazing. We got the Brie cheese curds which were outstanding, she got the Alfredo and I got the Meatloaf Trio which both blew us away. The goat cheese cheesecake with black lava salt on top for desert is one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had! Definitely worth a visit!
We waited for almost an hour for our meal. We even asked after 45 minutes if we could get the soup. Waiting again. I had to stop the waitress and tell her we had to leave 15 minutes. She said that we should have told her we were in a hurry. AND that it was Saturday night. We asked for our bill when got our food. Could not eat the soup; no time. Rushed through dinner so not sure if was good or not. No apolgy given and we all knew it was Saturday night so why were they not prepared. We had a show at orchestra hall so had to rush. Not a fun experience.
Food was good but the service was not. It took us over a half hour to get our food. Our server was not attentive, and only after we searched her down to ask where our food was did she say, "Oh, I'll go check", did we get our food. The restaurant was not full so we should have had better service. The music was too loud and made any table conversation difficult. Will not recommend or return. Too many other better options in downtown Mpls.
