The News Room
Whether planning a casual gathering or a private dinner, The News Room offers a multiplicity of space to adapt easily to any event. Conveniently located on the Nicollet Mall strip in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, we are only steps away from many hotels, Orchestra Hall, and just a few blocks from The Target Center & Target Field, The Orpheum, Pantages and State Theaters.
Was just a night out in the city. Though we were very disappointed you were out of the lasagna and removed the chicken cordon bleu from Hour menu.
Food was good, service responsive and quick, while ambiance was definitely interesting. Unfortunately, the restaurant has very few vegetarian options and the wine and beer options are very pricey. Happy hour might be the time to visit.
Always a great experience at the News Room!
Relatives visiting from Portland before a concert at the Dakota.
Took 10 there for business lunch. Wide variety of choices, salads, sandwiches, burgers.
It’s hard to mess up stir fry but they found a way. Drowning in sauce and over cooked limp veggies had this a serious disappointment.
Great food! The service was excellent! Highly Recommend
We were late for our reservation because of terrible traffic back-ups coming into downtown Minneapolis but they were very accommodating in still seating us & getting our food to us quickly as we had tickets for Orchestra Hall. As always the food was just delicious and my husband's craft cocktail was amazing he said!
The server and my black and white martini were the high points of the evening!
Food was very good. The service was very slow and the restaurant was empty.
Recently celebrated a birthday at the News Room.. everything about the experience was great!
Tres hummus was fantastic. Husband had the gnocchi; wish I had ordered it! Cheese board was rather small and nothing special - would pass on this one next time.
Hadn't been to the News Room for a few years, and not much has changed. Burgers are decent and prices are decent, but I wouldn't hurry back. Place seems a bit tired and menu is just OK.
The Honolulu Ahi entree is fantastic. However, you must start with the pulled pork Poutine made with potato wedges. Went back two nights in a row just for that!
I made a reservation a year ago for this past Saturday 10/27 and didn't know you were going to put us upstairs in the private "board" room. I got there 5 minutes after our party was seated or else I would have said something right away.
Food was good. Service wasn't very good. Waitress did not seem happy to be our server upstairs in the private "board" room. I don't blame her.
Part of the charm of this place is the atmosphere of the restaurant and being right on Nicolet Avenue. When I asked why they put us up there the waitress said they thought it was going to be busy and they don;t have a lot of spots to sit a table of 8. Well the place wasn't very busy and if I would have known we were going to sit up there I would have made reservation somewhere else.
Won't reserve a table there again. I will take my chances somewhere else or wait for a table downstairs with everyone else. :)
The News Room never disappoints me. Creative menu with great customer service!
Food was phenomenal! Had the meatloaf flight, and gnocchi with skirt steak. I wasn’t sure how the nautical items fit with the newsroom theme for decor but was still interesting and would recommend.
We had to wait a hour for 2 appetizers and a side. We were almost late for the concert.
Never had a bad meal! The pesto tortellini is amazing! Extensive beer and wine list. Service was awesome.
The location and concept of this restaurant are great. The service was lacking, maybe they were understaffed the night I went. It was a bit too loud and the restrooms were in need of attention. The food was average.
The Newsroom is a great staple for good American food. I get the salads and they're always good. My coworkers get burgers and fries and enjoy them too.
The food was fantastic as always. The menu is always changing and it is not difficult to find interesting new items. The service is as good as any place.
We were on a tight time schedule and made reservations for 12:30 pm with the hope they could accommodate us at 12:15 pm. they DID! We were seated upon arrival and provided with prompt, courteous, and friendly service. Our server was mindful of our time constraint and did his best to expedite everything for us. We were out the door by 1:15 pm so we could meet our 1:30 pm deadline!
This was the most terrible restaurant experience I have ever had. My sister and I and a few of our friends (total of 5) made a reservation for noon. We sat down at 12:05 and ordered our food at 12:11. We sat there with water until 1:05 and our food never came. The waiter came to check on us once and we asked for our cheese board that we had requested for an appetizer and he said he would check on it and never came back to the table. We were down there for a conference and needed to be back to the conventions center by 1:30! We sat for an hour and 10 minutes without any food. How long does it take to make salads and sandwiches??? When we flagged the waiter down and asked him where our food was because we needed to be back at the conference he brought us our tab before he brought us our food!!!! It was crazy town! It was my first and last experience at the news room!!!! We noticed when we went to the restroom almost every table was sat and no one had food. DOn't seat the restaurant if you cant accommodate everyone! I know a few other tables were from the conference were there and didn't make any reservations and were able to get sat down but also didn't get food. It was really disappointing. We did end up getting our food in to go boxes finally at 1:20 pm and scarfed the food at the beginning of the conference in our seats when we got back to the convention center and my girlfriend's chicken breast was raw!!! it made her sick and all of us sick to our stomach looking at it. I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN AND WARNING OTHERS DO NOT EAT HERE!!!
The restaurant was out of several items on the menu even at 7pm.
The ‘Sous-Vide’ chicken was surprisingly dry for that method of preparation and not very flavorful.
All-in-all, OK/satisfactory, but not outstanding.
We had a group of 12, some thought it was very good restaurant, others of us weren’t so impressed. Service was good considering the group size and a solo waitress.
Good menu selection.
The Primitivo was quite nice.
WHY IS IT WHEN I MAKE A RESERVATION THE CONFIRMATION DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY OF THE DETAILS. I HAVE TO GUESS WHICH RESERVATION I AM RECEIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENRD ON MANY RESERVATIONS. ALSO, ICAN NOT REMEMBER RECEIVING A CONFIRMATION WITH ANY DETAILS IN THE PAST YEAR. PLEASE ADVISE ME BY E-MAIL THANK YOU
The food, service and decor exceeded expectations! Perfect place to eat right before a concert at Orchestra hall.
Had a rally great time! The food was really good! I really liked that they had two dining areas one that was louder and one that was quieter. We picked the louder option but it was nice to have a quieter option. But the loud section never got that loud which was nice! Really cool decorations! It's a very fun restaurant. The food was good and actually better than I was expecting. It's close to orchestra hall and the Orpheum you could easily park once and walk here and then to your show. Biggest complaint the bathrooms were poorly labeled I (a man) almost walked into the female bathroom because the sign was so hidden. But if that's my biggest complaint the restaurant was really good!
Great food & great service.
My initial impression was not great as we were seated way back in a corner that felt a bit claustrophobic. The menu stated some happy hour prices that we qualified for but when we asked about them the waitress stated these were only good if you were seated in a certain area. She did offer to move us. I went ahead and ordered the beer that was on the happy hour menu anyway as it what what I wanted and she then came back and said they were out of it! At 6pm on a Friday! Fortunately I found another gem that I LOVED. Then we asked for the late night menu and that was amazing! Their burgers are so good!! The service is great although a bit slow. We had allowed for an hour and a half for dinner as we had tickets to a play and we had to let the waitress know we were on a time crunch.
Basically a sports bar with newspaper themed décor that has not worn well. Two cocktails, a shared cheese board (which was good), an indifferently prepared swordfish (also shared), and a crème brulee cost $100. The experience wasn't terrible but there are much better options for downtown Mpls dining.
Get-together with relatives passing through the town, including 2 in their 90s. Food and service was excellent. Requested quiet area, was pretty good most of evening but music was a bit loud the final 45 minutes. Server didn’t think speaker could be turned down just in our room. Also, some of our group commented that signage for the bathrooms was very confusing.
We sat outside and enjoyed the downtown Minneapolis vibe. The appetizers and entrees were great. Our waiter was fabulous. I would definitely recommend The News Room.
Had a quiet dining experience. Tuesday evening, and the restaurant was not very busy at 5pm. Food was good overall despite my filet being cooked more than it should have been (Ordered Medium, came out Medium Well). My spouse had the gnocchi which was very good. Drinks were spot on and our waiter was attentive to our anniversary. Good choice for our date night.
We went for a quick breakfast on a rainy Sunday morning. We were there early and enjoyed a quiet atmosphere as the crowd had yet to arrive. The coffee was excellent and the Eggs Florentine, with its bountiful helping of spinach and other vegetables, hit the spot for me. The breakfast menu isn't lengthy but it's what we were looking for. Service was friendly and attentive but not intrusive.
Not very busy service was slow. Food was good but expected a little bit more.
Terrible service. Waited a full hour for our meal, then they brought three of the four entrees — waited another 10 minutes to get the last meal, a SALAD.
Painfully slow service. Arrived with 2 kids and seated without kids menus. Took 20 minutes to just get drinks. Took another 40 to get food.
We had a large work group of 19 people and every single person loved the food. You all made me look good as I picked the venue!
Our server was great with the large crowd and we liked it so much we are booking it again for October!
