The food was amazing. Highly recommend the Brie bites for an appetizer!!
We went here for Galentines! Pandemic friendly and amazing food
May be covid related - but the restaurant seemed to be understaffed.
For the price, the food was very mediocre.
NY Strip and Filet Mignon were average at best; I would have expected better quality cuts.
Sides were good, though were not warm enough when served.
NOT worth the $$
Great service, waitress bent over backwards to accommodate my paleo date by asking kitchen questions on arguably the busiest restaurant night (Valentines weekend).
Few things were forgot on the kitchen end I’d have given 4 stars on food (we paid for mushrooms and didn’t get them).
Definitely on the pricey side of things we got 4 drinks, 2 entrees, and an appetizer, the bill was $250. As such I have to compare to every other spot I’d spend $125 per person on; Manny’s, Oceanside, Murray’s etc all offer better ambiance and food, and as such I think the value isn’t great here....
All that said I will be back because the service was so stellar.
TLDR: Okay food, terrible (slow & inattentive) service.
Had a reservation for 6:30pm on Saturday night. Called because we were actually running early and asked if we would be able to get in 15-30 minutes prior. Wasn't sure with COVID and didn't want to be stuck outside in -20 degree windchill. They said fine, but when we showed up they had bumped our reservation time 45 minutes earlier and almost didn't find us. Host seemed annoyed that we showed up right when we said we would but someone on their end bumped the rezo WAY up. We were sat and got waters pretty much right away but then waited a LONG time to get seen by a server. She was nice enough at first. We got a round of cocktails and an app. The food came out first - after a 20 minute wait - and then our drinks finally followed. My barrel-aged Manhattan was good but my wife's Strawberry Mule a fail: Too much ice, NOT in a copper mug, and not enough vodka. We had ordered our meal at that point, and our server had only come around once, about 2 seconds after the drinks were dropped, to check in on us. After that - we saw her once when I had to flag her down (TWICE - the first time she didn't hear me and walked right by) to get the check. The Fried Rice entree and the Fried Chicken Sandwhich were tasty, but based on the terrible service and WAY too long of a time to eat based on the type of food and experience we were having - we will not be back. Not for take out. Not ever.
Food was good. Had a few drinks as well. Now I’m broke
$25 for a cup of rice, tiny bag of broccoli, and bite size pieces of chicken that maybe was two ounces. Unfortunate.
They were very safe and followed covid rules. The food was wonderful and so was the service. It was nice to go out to a safe restaurant.
Musical ambiance, but not overpowering. We couldn’t hear the other tables and we could hear each other talk. That’s what you want.
I had the lasagna and both specialty cocktail old fashioned’s.
The Mrs. had the steak gnocchi both and the raspberry mojito and the fall sangria.
Great drinks. Better food. Wild decor. Worth the money. Wish we weren’t locked down again so I could try more of the menu.
Also, the bar is a boat.
Stopped in for lunch and had a couple of appetizers from the menu and a very dry cider. The food was good and the cider was different and not undrinkable. The decor was interesting and the staff was great. If your in the area, check it out.
The ambience was that of a mortuary, it took long for us to get any service and we did the cheese curds were disgusting and not to be harsh but they tasted like bile.
I asked for the check for the flat sodas and the vile cheese curds and we left and went somewhere else. Murray’s which was fantastic
Great place and service phenomenal. Like how they took temperature upon entering and practiced safe spacing!
Fantastic as always. Only one left standing downtown. They deserve our support.
Kevin was nice, lots of TVs with football games, fun decor, good food.
Our food and drinks were great! However the service was on the slower side. Took about 5-7 minutes for a server to even greet us. She also took a long time to come back for our order, but after we got our order she stopped by a couple more times. Great food and value, subpar service though this time around.
This restaurant is so underrated... the food is excellent and the service is great. Try the carbonara pasta, the best I have ever had.
Server was extremely pleasant, food for Saturday brunch was extremely tasty and great value. I half expected thr staff to wear costumes from Newsies as a theme restaurant.
The food was amazing! It was a great experience for brunch.
Service and food were great. Downtown Minneapolis very quiet and quite empty... hard to see.
Very attentive staff. Distancing from other guests was comforting. Food was good as usual. Great variety of meals.
The food and service were good.
Due to The Times of Covid, the atmosphere was super quiet and very subdued. Would like to see more ambiance to make it not feel like you could hear a pin drop.
With Covid it was quiet, but I had a tasty sandwich and felt safe. There really want many people inside, only a few tables occupied.
Awesome dining experience ! Split the turkey burger 4 ways as an app and loved the idea !
Nice to have a restaurant open at this time. Dessert was so yummy!
Loved the ambience! The food was fantastic and the patrons were spaced out well.
I love the News Room, always!!
My roommate and I came for brunch, the breakfast menu was much smaller than advertised. The food was decent. Things are obviously different due to covid.
We will definitely be back again! We went with some friends and everyone was super satisfied with their food choices.
Was a little disappointed there was no happy hour.
The News Room has a great vibe - excellent music, interesting decor (love the bar which is basically a ship with rigging that the bartenders climb to reach the liquor bottles). The food offerings were eclectic and interesting and the food quality first rate. Most of all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great place.
The Newsroom needs to improve the quality of their food. It definitely was not worth the high prices. I ordered a chicken sandwich that was listed as a seasoned grilled chicken breast. The chicken was not seasoned and no flavor to it and it seemed like the chicken was cooked in the microwave. My friend ordered the ceaser salad and asked if she could have grilled chicken on it. The same thing for her the chicken was not good.
Overall, The NewsRoom has great food and amazing drinks. Recommend dining outside
Everything was great, but food came slow and I didn't receive everything I ordered.
Loving sitting outside here! Our waiter was so kind!
Great evening. Would have gone to The Local but they were closed. Food was outstanding. (Tortellini and chicken panini with Brie cheese bites as an app). and service was great. I’ll be back even after the Local opens.
I understand that taps have been sitting for 3 months but I don't appreciate the flakes that were in the beer. The waitress explained it away and I understand but still don't accept. Flush out your tubes or do what you can to prevent setement .
Didn’t eat, just drank and sat on the patio. Thank you for being open when nobody else was! We had fun.
Loved the new vegan risotto. I’ll definitely recommend that.
I make a habit of hitting up the News Room for dinner at least every few months, because the menu is diverse and well-thought out.
It was interesting being there this week, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic: There were still a few folks coming in, but I've never been there when it was that quiet: The staff, as per usual, were very friendly. They explained that they were spacing the parties out throughout the restaurant to minimize risk to anyone. The drinks were great, the food was wonderful and perfectly prepared.
Great atmosphere and fun for a crowd! Would go again.
