It would have been nice to have a slightly quieter area to be - having an "energetic experience" isn't always desired. The hostess was very helpful, though, in finding us a table that worked.
I went to lunch with a work colleague and after 40 minutes of waiting, we decided we better get our meals to go so we didn't miss our upcoming meetings. I flagged down the waiter and he just said "OK". He didn't seem to be concerned about the amount of time we were waiting or the fact that we couldn't enjoy our meal there. On top of that, I witnessed him ducking down under the bar in the center of the room and touching the floor with his hands multiple times. He typically sprayed his hands with a sanitizer after doing that, but I am not sure he did every time. The turkey sandwich I had was overcooked and very tough. I do not plan to go here again.
The service and food were great! Reduced staff post pandemic meant the restaurant was not full. Reservations are recommended.
Enjoy my experience very much. I dined alone so that I can work and sat at a very quiet table near the bar. The atmosphere was beautiful
Food was bland, server seemed like he didn't care.
Cauliflower appetizer was different but, good.
My salmon pasta was so so. Salmon had no taste and the noodles were stuck together as if it had been sitting a while.
My sons chicken and waffles was poor. Chicken amped bad and had an odd color to parts of the meat.
My husband really liked his flat iron stake and sides however, it was over salted.
Great experience! Great drinks! Great food! Loved it!
I had let them know ahead of time that it was a birthday celebration, but it was never mentioned or acknowledged. Food was good, drinks were way overpriced. Server was friendly, but she forget things multiple times and we had to wait for our drinks for 20 minutes even though it was a slow night. Best part was the man who was bussing our table- very friendly, took the time to show my daughters around the restaurant and explain significance of items in the dining areas. He saved the experience
I’ve always enjoyed gong to the News Room. Great burgers normally, but I had the BBQ beef and my wife had the chicken panini. Both were excellent. Great sandwich place, although they have plenty of other things to enjoy.
Phenomenal! We had a business team dinner and had a hard time finding a place that was open - we are so happy that the News Room was the place we chose. Food - incredible, service - incredible, ambience - incredible! We were so impressed with everything and will certainly be back once we are back in the office in September. Thank you, News Room!
Great to be downtown again. The almond-crusted chicken salad was superb. I'll be back for it again in a few weeks!
Great menu. Good ambiance.
Wonderful staff but overpriced for the size of the portions. My burger was delicious however.
Nothing more than “alright”. Food came late and wasn’t anything to write home about. Drinks were just “ok”, nothing noteworthy. The decorations were cool though.
Server was kind of rude! Food was dry and cold. I ordered a pulled pork and it was really dry. First time at news room and was disappointed
We thought this restaurant would be more upscale, but it’s no more than a sports bar. The menu on Open Table is very out of date. We mentioned this to the waitress, who responded, “no one from Open Table ever checks with us.” So why not contact Open Table yourselves? Food was very expensive: two beers, an app, a Caesar salad with chicken and mac & cheese with chicken was $71 plus tip.
It was a very nice experience. Super comfortable and inviting. Service was great
This was one of my first excursions eating out post COVID. I chose The News Room partly because of their COVID protocols in place. Our food and service was great and we felt really safe.
The food was amazing. Highly recommend the Brie bites for an appetizer!!
We went here for Galentines! Pandemic friendly and amazing food
May be covid related - but the restaurant seemed to be understaffed.
For the price, the food was very mediocre.
NY Strip and Filet Mignon were average at best; I would have expected better quality cuts.
Sides were good, though were not warm enough when served.
NOT worth the $$
Great service, waitress bent over backwards to accommodate my paleo date by asking kitchen questions on arguably the busiest restaurant night (Valentines weekend).
Few things were forgot on the kitchen end I’d have given 4 stars on food (we paid for mushrooms and didn’t get them).
Definitely on the pricey side of things we got 4 drinks, 2 entrees, and an appetizer, the bill was $250. As such I have to compare to every other spot I’d spend $125 per person on; Manny’s, Oceanside, Murray’s etc all offer better ambiance and food, and as such I think the value isn’t great here....
All that said I will be back because the service was so stellar.
TLDR: Okay food, terrible (slow & inattentive) service.
Had a reservation for 6:30pm on Saturday night. Called because we were actually running early and asked if we would be able to get in 15-30 minutes prior. Wasn't sure with COVID and didn't want to be stuck outside in -20 degree windchill. They said fine, but when we showed up they had bumped our reservation time 45 minutes earlier and almost didn't find us. Host seemed annoyed that we showed up right when we said we would but someone on their end bumped the rezo WAY up. We were sat and got waters pretty much right away but then waited a LONG time to get seen by a server. She was nice enough at first. We got a round of cocktails and an app. The food came out first - after a 20 minute wait - and then our drinks finally followed. My barrel-aged Manhattan was good but my wife's Strawberry Mule a fail: Too much ice, NOT in a copper mug, and not enough vodka. We had ordered our meal at that point, and our server had only come around once, about 2 seconds after the drinks were dropped, to check in on us. After that - we saw her once when I had to flag her down (TWICE - the first time she didn't hear me and walked right by) to get the check. The Fried Rice entree and the Fried Chicken Sandwhich were tasty, but based on the terrible service and WAY too long of a time to eat based on the type of food and experience we were having - we will not be back. Not for take out. Not ever.
Food was good. Had a few drinks as well. Now I’m broke
$25 for a cup of rice, tiny bag of broccoli, and bite size pieces of chicken that maybe was two ounces. Unfortunate.
They were very safe and followed covid rules. The food was wonderful and so was the service. It was nice to go out to a safe restaurant.
Musical ambiance, but not overpowering. We couldn’t hear the other tables and we could hear each other talk. That’s what you want.
I had the lasagna and both specialty cocktail old fashioned’s.
The Mrs. had the steak gnocchi both and the raspberry mojito and the fall sangria.
Great drinks. Better food. Wild decor. Worth the money. Wish we weren’t locked down again so I could try more of the menu.
Also, the bar is a boat.
Stopped in for lunch and had a couple of appetizers from the menu and a very dry cider. The food was good and the cider was different and not undrinkable. The decor was interesting and the staff was great. If your in the area, check it out.
The ambience was that of a mortuary, it took long for us to get any service and we did the cheese curds were disgusting and not to be harsh but they tasted like bile.
I asked for the check for the flat sodas and the vile cheese curds and we left and went somewhere else. Murray’s which was fantastic
Great place and service phenomenal. Like how they took temperature upon entering and practiced safe spacing!
Fantastic as always. Only one left standing downtown. They deserve our support.
Kevin was nice, lots of TVs with football games, fun decor, good food.
Our food and drinks were great! However the service was on the slower side. Took about 5-7 minutes for a server to even greet us. She also took a long time to come back for our order, but after we got our order she stopped by a couple more times. Great food and value, subpar service though this time around.
This restaurant is so underrated... the food is excellent and the service is great. Try the carbonara pasta, the best I have ever had.
Server was extremely pleasant, food for Saturday brunch was extremely tasty and great value. I half expected thr staff to wear costumes from Newsies as a theme restaurant.
The food was amazing! It was a great experience for brunch.
Service and food were great. Downtown Minneapolis very quiet and quite empty... hard to see.
Very attentive staff. Distancing from other guests was comforting. Food was good as usual. Great variety of meals.
The food and service were good.
Due to The Times of Covid, the atmosphere was super quiet and very subdued. Would like to see more ambiance to make it not feel like you could hear a pin drop.
With Covid it was quiet, but I had a tasty sandwich and felt safe. There really want many people inside, only a few tables occupied.
