The interior design was very nicely done, food was great. Service was friendly and prompt.
We had a delightful dinner on Saturday night and were surprised at the ease of obtaining a reservation. Drinks, appetizers, main courses and dessert were well presented and delicious. Lots of variety. Ambiance was cozy and fun.
Consistent with great service and amazing food. Even the bread and butter is amazing.
My husband and I really enjoyed our meal. We had an early reservation and were alone in our little area most of the time, which was nice. The ambiance is rustic and I don't think I'd call it romantic but it was very cozy. The food was delicious, especially the meatloaf and the mashed sweet potatoes, and our server was excellent. She recommended the wine I ordered and it was very nice. The menu has lots of choices so I can definitely recommend this restaurant for both couples and families.
Sunday brunch. New item - Chesapeake Seafood Omelet. Lobster, scallops, shrimp, spinach, cheese omelet with side of breakfast potatoes - rich, healthy portion. Also, seafood enchiladas with two eggs served over a bed of red beans. Wow! Excellent and for a big boy appetite. Love the new menu additions. One of our local favorites.
The food was very good! Loved the bartenders and the managers! Our sever for dinner was horrible to say the least.
Good all-round restaurant; everything from burgers and hot dogs to upscale Southern cuisine. Nice interior. Average bar. Family friendly. Near center of town. Casual dining. Recommended.
The staff was great. Love the menu. Wine list is not the best but did enjoy their cocktail and beer selections.
Really nice place. Clean and quaint. Wait staff seem to be informed college types, working hard to please and make you feel welcome. Gumbo was excellent. Wednesday is half off wine!!
Wonderful Sunday Brunch during Winterfest weekend in Blowing Rock. This place is so charming!!! Food was excellent and our waiter (Fish) was so pleasant and helpful. Definitely want to go back!!!!!!
Food was great, service was pretty rough.
We are always well taken care of when we dine at The New. I let them know in the reservation that I would be having a business meal and that they may want to seat us away from other tables as to not disturb them. We were seated in a cozy separate room with a fireplace. It was wonderful. Food is always lovely as well as the staff!
Excellent food, service, & atmosphere!! Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!!
Our favorite location for New Year's Eve each year. But book it early in the year or you may find that there are no reservations available.
Great fun and wine at a very good price point for a special Mom and daughter night out.
Good food and menu but dining is crowded and loud especially in the front rooms. The front dining room is at the front door and directly across from the bar. Very cold and noisy.
Had a wonderful time, waiter was super nice and efficient
Food was very good, Very happy they had open table during a busy ski weeekend. Other places had 1-2 hour waits
We were able to spend an enjoyable snowy evening with the team at the New Public House. The food was quite good and the server was very attentive. They had some interesting menu items that were good on the palate. We tried their nachos and were happy happy. Their mainstay is the meatloaf which was delightful. All in all a very good meal!
The food was fantastic! The service was great, quaint and quiet.
Great find....I had only been here for local's night which brought me back and I was not disappointed. Great menu, friendly staff and good atmosphere! I will definitely be adding this to my go-to list of great spots in Blowing Rock!
Disappointing and not nearly as good as in the past. Seems like menu has been "dumbed down."
We wanted to love this since we have a home in the area. The food was solid but not outstanding. Our server was attentive but overall the restaurant was not what we had hoped. Smoke from the kitchen greeted us as we arrived- just one example. There are no personal seats in the room.
Cute place with friendly, welcoming staff
Visiting on vacation from Florida.
Great follow up and a potential miscommunication. That’s The New we thought we knew!
All was very good except for the service. Our waitress had another table that was a large group. Our group of 4 (2 couples) were an after thought. Very disappointing.
My husband and I had dinner at the New Public House while visiting Blowing Rock. We started with the Chicken Livers, and I ordered the crawfish enchiladas and my husband had the lamb burger. Everything was prepared perfectly and was delicious! Service and cocktail list was good as well. We will return.
The new lunch menu is mostly burgers. First experience was good so we returned with out of town guest. Not so great second time. Burgers were over cooked and dry. We all order medium rare except for one rare. The rare was delivered to the wrong person and might have passed for medium, others were well done or more. The fries also disappointed being tepid. We love the night menu and always come about once a week so this was a disappointment.
Consistently great food. Service is top notch. Local’s Night (Thursdays) has some great wine and beer deals - even if you’re not a “local”!
Great menu (I had a lamb burger) and service! Bar area is cozy while waiting for your table.
Menu is different so check it out before you dine.
Great service. Loud atmosphere. Food comes out very quickly. Good spot for a decent dinner in town.
Fabulous as usual. We live coming here for brunch
Came in to town and was looking for somewhere to eat- Open Table helped to find something. The food was great and price was right. Quick and friendly service. A must go to place!
Just a great place. our dinner was great. Especially, the chicken livers and chicken chili.
Fun, intimate bar with a personable bartender, waitress and manager.
We enjoyed our evening at the restaurant. Food was good, drinks were lovely and we were reuniting with old friends and spent time enjoying the company and the restaurant accommodated our time together.
My husband and I REALLY wanted to enjoy breakfast at The New Public House as we chose to eat there on the morning of our one year anniversary. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed!
We had high hopes in that we were able to customize our meal, allowing us to order our breakfast however we wanted. Grits or potatoes? How about both! Instead of toast, could I get a single pancake? SURE! We were very excited.
However, when the food came, I immediately noticed that my sausage patties were VERY pink on one side. We flagged someone on staff over who assured us that the homemade sausage cooks to a more pink color, and even if it is under cooked, it's homemade...so no worries, right? I couldn't even eat the sausage, and it didn't have much to do with the pink color. Their "homemade sausage" tasted like plastic! My husband ended up eating my plate of sausage, and said that it tasted like plastic, too. He had ordered the liver mush, which we both agreed was AWFUL. It is not a true southerner's definition of breakfast liver mush. It didn't have the traditional gritty texture of cornmeal. Instead, it was a fatty version of what we're sure was only livers...mashed and fried. Disgusting!
My husband didn't finish his one mug of coffee because it, too, was not any good. We both also ordered grits, which were the most loose/runny grits I've ever eaten.
I could keep going...
All of this to say, if you DO find yourself here for breakfast, scrambled eggs, the breakfast potatoes and a pancake are just about the only things worth eating. Steer clear of any of their meats! The New Public House gives the impression that it is a southern-inspired menu, designed and cooked from recipes that are CLEARLY not from the south. Truly disappointing.
The food was great and the reservation on OpenTable was so easy and the table was ready when we walked in. The ambiance was very contemporary yet kept the rustic/mountain charm. The menu wasn't too long but great options and everything we had from the Pimento Cheese and Naan appetizer tot he Gumbo and Catfish meals were great. They even threw in a free Brownie dessert since it was our anniversary.
Best restaurant in Blowing Rock. We ate there 2 times on our weekend vacation!
This was our first visit and will definitely go back. The atmosphere complimented the food. The menu had both small plates and regular portions.
