Came in to town and was looking for somewhere to eat- Open Table helped to find something. The food was great and price was right. Quick and friendly service. A must go to place!

Just a great place. our dinner was great. Especially, the chicken livers and chicken chili.
Fun, intimate bar with a personable bartender, waitress and manager.

We enjoyed our evening at the restaurant. Food was good, drinks were lovely and we were reuniting with old friends and spent time enjoying the company and the restaurant accommodated our time together.

My husband and I REALLY wanted to enjoy breakfast at The New Public House as we chose to eat there on the morning of our one year anniversary. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed!

We had high hopes in that we were able to customize our meal, allowing us to order our breakfast however we wanted. Grits or potatoes? How about both! Instead of toast, could I get a single pancake? SURE! We were very excited.

However, when the food came, I immediately noticed that my sausage patties were VERY pink on one side. We flagged someone on staff over who assured us that the homemade sausage cooks to a more pink color, and even if it is under cooked, it's homemade...so no worries, right? I couldn't even eat the sausage, and it didn't have much to do with the pink color. Their "homemade sausage" tasted like plastic! My husband ended up eating my plate of sausage, and said that it tasted like plastic, too. He had ordered the liver mush, which we both agreed was AWFUL. It is not a true southerner's definition of breakfast liver mush. It didn't have the traditional gritty texture of cornmeal. Instead, it was a fatty version of what we're sure was only livers...mashed and fried. Disgusting!

My husband didn't finish his one mug of coffee because it, too, was not any good. We both also ordered grits, which were the most loose/runny grits I've ever eaten.

I could keep going...

All of this to say, if you DO find yourself here for breakfast, scrambled eggs, the breakfast potatoes and a pancake are just about the only things worth eating. Steer clear of any of their meats! The New Public House gives the impression that it is a southern-inspired menu, designed and cooked from recipes that are CLEARLY not from the south. Truly disappointing.

The food was great and the reservation on OpenTable was so easy and the table was ready when we walked in. The ambiance was very contemporary yet kept the rustic/mountain charm. The menu wasn't too long but great options and everything we had from the Pimento Cheese and Naan appetizer tot he Gumbo and Catfish meals were great. They even threw in a free Brownie dessert since it was our anniversary.

We had a wonderful time at The New Public House. We were visiting for the night and were very happy with the service and food. The ambiance was casual but intimate - perfect for a dinner with old friends! I had the gumbo and it was wonderful! Just enough kick for someone with a sensitive palate like myself. We will definitely come back!

Two top table seating was too cramped and next door tables were so close you were in on everyone's conversations. A little loud as well. Most unbelievable thing was that the waitress brought us our craft beers in the cans. When we asked for glasses she went away and came back and said no sorry they were very busy and couldn't give us beer glasses!!! Didn't even offer a different type of glass. Very strange. Wait staff in general were friendly but did not know the menu very well and were clearly harried. Admittedly was a very busy weekend. Food was good- but I don't recommend this place if you're looking for ambiance and a higher end dining experience even though it advertises itself as such a place.

Everything was nice except all the food that we had was so seasoned with cayenne that there was no natural flavor to enjoy. I am very aware that many enjoy it this way and I would highly recommend for them.

We tried a big variety of items on the menu to share. All were outstanding. The Lamburger and Oyster Stew were my favorite. The Old Fashion Flight was the best! So creative. Will definitely return.

Another great meal at The New Public House. We were there to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed a glass of wine in the cozy bar before dinner. The bartender was very friendly and came out from behind the bar to our table to wait on us. Once seated at our table, we started with the fried oysters and corn bread. The oysters were a featured appetizer that nite. Both were delicious. I ordered the seafood gumbo and my husband ordered a steak. The portions were good size and both meals were amazing. The restaurant was full but that in no way impacted the service or quality of food. During the fall I strongly suggest making a reservation. We go to Blowing Rock once a year and never miss an opportunity to dine there.

It was extremely hot in the restaurant. After asking to adjust the AC, the waitress told us that the Manager could not change the thermostat.
The computer (again, the waitress & the Manger said it was a computer problem) took a long time to handle the credit card transactions (several tables had the same problem). Waited a long time while the restaurant was HOT!

We went for Sunday breakfast. The staff was clearly overwhelmed or something was off as the service was not great, the plates were messy (hollandaise sauce smudged all over the underside of the plates), the coffee pot was dripping everywhere as it was poured and the server didn't even notice, etc. We arrived early for our reservation and were turned away and told the restaurant was packed. When we were finally seated the restaurant had only 4-5 tables seated out of maybe 20. I was very disappointed in the experience and will probably avoid going back.

I have been to the Public house 3 times and each time I find the food to be good but not excellent. I had the grouper with black beans and coconut rice. The fish was fine but the rest could have used more flavor. We do not like their cornbread, cast iron looks good but tasteless. The one dish I loved was a special pasta sausage bolognese, delicious! I would go back for that! Drinks are good but pricey.

I actually hate giving a bad review, and the Public House has a nice front porch and Bar area. I would consider returning for a quick bite, appetizer, or lunch and utilizing these spaces. However, our dinner was disappointing. My husband had the meatloaf (based on reviews we had read). While the meat itself was good, there was barely a spoonful of sauce (more sauce would have greatly improved it). The sides offered were fried Okra and collard greens, neither of which my husband cares for. He asked for a substitute for the okra, 'chef's choice' ~ and got a double portion of collards. We thought this dish would come with mashed potatoes, again that would have greatly improved it. So the Meatloaf was only 'Fair'. I ordered the pork tacos off the appetizer menu, and this was extremely disappointing. There was no sauce whatsoever with this, it was simply steamed corn tortillas with chunks of pork and a few diced peppers (I mean a FEW). The pork was tender, but there was nothing to this dish. Thankfully it came with a salad which was very tasty. While the service was acceptable, our server seemed a bit 'harried', even though it was a Tuesday night with only about 5 other tables seated in the restaurant. To be fair, we should have brought our disappointment to the attention of our server or the manager, which we did not. While our main disappointment was with the food, we also found the atmosphere to be 'stark' and not very inviting. The booths are wood, there is not any color, no candles on tables, really much more of a casual feel than we expected. The Public House is in a great location, and perhaps we just were unlucky. I appreciate the opportunity to leave a review.

A very pleasant restaurant with a nice variety, some unusual dishes, small plates, huge salads, and a wide selection of beer and wine. The wine was half-price on Tuesday night. I will definitely dine here again.

We have been the Public House before and had great experiences. It's been a while, however. This visit was disappointing. Our waiter had NO IDEA what was on the menu. When I asked what was in the Duck Rabbit Stout brownie he could not explain that it was a beer! (I was trying to order for my 10 year old). He also could not help us with vegetarian modifications, etc. We waited a long time for water refills and there was almost no one in the restaurant. The food was pretty good -- although my salad was overdressed. The food is a 3.7/5. I would say, "very good." Sadly, the service was really disappointing and if you want vegetarian options, this is not the place.
