Excellent service for breakfast, dinner, and overall for the three nights we stayed. The staff goes above and beyond, and the accommodations and restaurant/bar are very charming. Great hospitality and location.
We love this place. Dynamite corn bread and shrimp and grits.
We had reservations for Sunday brunch but the weather was so nice we took a first come/first serve table outside on the lawn. Initially we thought it was a good idea but the table was located next to a solid cement sewer drain cover which was wafting up bad odors for most of the meal.
The restaurant was out of black tea (at 10:30 AM) and as a tea drinker that was disappointing.
We ordered oatmeal and a bisquit sandwich and it took almost an hour to receive our food.
Our waitress while very pleasant, was not very effective. She kept forgetting to bring requested items to her assigned tables and actually showed up at our table at the end of the meal with absolutely nothing in her hands when she meant to bring our check...!
I have eaten at this location several times and this was my only not-so-good experience. I would go again but will not be sitting outside by the sewer drain cover.
Ambiance is haphazard. The carpet looks cheap and the chairs are uncomfortable. The food was meh. The ideas were good, but the execution wasn’t nuanced. The only vegan item was a tempeh noodle bowl that was ridiculously sweet and it was $22 for something I could get at Hunan Express.
The service was not up to standard. L, but it was friendly. We had to wait for plates to come several minutes after appetizers. We shared appetizers and there were no serving utensils to share them.
Delicious food, friendly service and great ambiance. Thai Chili Shrimp on Local Thursday menu was outstanding!
New Public House provided an excellent brunch experience. We have always enjoyed dinner here and brunch did not disappoint. Will return soon.
Overall I rated this restaurant very good , my only disappointment was the cesar salad arrived in a semi wilted state and was probably prepared too far in advance to be properly presented. The wait staff was very attentive and passed by often to check on us.
We were a table of four, celebrating our anniversaries...33 and 59 years of wedded bliss!!! Our server was Jason and he couldn't have been nicer or easier to work with. We changed our minds a few times and he never seemed bothered by it. Food was delicious. Well done everyone.
dirty. slovenly staff. appallingly bad food, xxxxx xxxx
Service was barely adequate. It took over 20 minutes to get our drinks. Utensils had to be requested multiple times, as did water seconds. The pork chop dinner was average and the coffee after dinner was barely warm. Perhaps an off night for them, but we won't hurry back.
We had a lovely dinner. The food was delicious and the ambience was sublime.
I ordered the flounder PoBoy and you hardly could find the fish in the bun. Taste was good but would try a burger next time. My husband ordered the fish and chips and got a nice size portion. Service was good but I left still hungry.
Really looking forward to try this restaurant, I have to say I was disappointed when the host could not even look up to greet me face to face when I arrived, the server was great but the noise level high with someone at the bar area telling everyone her life story, I don’t think it was a patron but someone collecting the laundry for the hotel. Anyways the food was nice and overall it was pleasant.
We love New Public! Had guests for the weekend that we took there. They loved it! We always have the Oyster appetizer- so yummy and rich. I had meatloaf with okra, collards and mashed potatoes. Great! Hubby had a burger which he though was fabulous. Our guests had meatball appetizer and crab dip appetizer and seafood gumbo. They both thought it was delicious! Unfortunately we didn’t have room for dessert. We will be back!
Food was outstanding. Service was average. Would definitely recommend if In Blowing Rock.
What a fabulous meal and evening! We had the best service, best drinks and best food! With every course, every bite we were all
saying ‘this is fabulous!’
Thank you for lovely evening!!
There are three dining areas: the bar, a small dining room in the front of the building across the hall from the bar, and a large dining room at the back. For some reason, the hostess assigned us (two women of retired age who dine out a lot and could become regular customers) to the back. It was filled with families with very loud children, including one couple with a completely hysterical and uncontrollable 4 year-old son. He screamed regularly, making conversation impossible. The staff just shrugged their shoulders; our lovely waitress just said "kids will be kids" to which I replied "parents should be parents." Other adult diners near us were clearly also disturbed. A nightmare for a slightly above-price meal. Never again!
Food was very good. Noise level almost deafening in the main dining room. Our waitress must have been overwhelmed because our cocktails came AFTER our entrees.
Our host ordered a second drink only to have her slam it rudely & loudly on the table .
Won’t be back next year.
We had a great meal at The New Public House. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the meatloaf and both were really delicious. Loved the quiet, charming atmosphere and our server Rob was the best! He even brought a box of eye glasses to the table when I forgot mine and couldn’t see the menu well. We will definitely be back!
Have eaten at Public House 7-8 times and have never been disappointed. Ate brunch there yesterday. I had fried green tomato eggs benedict. Just excellent. Night before we ate at the bar (just arrived in town with no rsvp) and wife enjoyed hanger steak. Nicely seasoned, light char on exterior, the mashed potatoes were solid and brussels sprouts very tender with also light char. Glass of Lodi Zin for $10 the surprise of the meal. Can't go wrong at Public House.
Our overall experience was good. However, there were a couple of missteps. The first was that the table we were seated at was very wobbly. I know this is a common problem with restaurants but as it was corrected by placing a napkin under one of the legs it should have been addressed before anyone was seated there. The second was that my wife's wine glass was dirty on the outside. This again was quickly addressed by our waiter but should never have happened. Those 2 items being said the meals themselves were very good. The service was satisfactory also. I would not hesitate to recommend The New Public House for a good meal reasonably priced.
Great food and service!
Very expensive , food was ok . We sat outside and talked about how the outside was not very presentable. Grounds could use some work.
I always enjoy this place. It needs a bit sprucing and cleaning up, but overall always a good experience.
The food and service were great and the atmosphere was very quiet and serene! I will diffidently be dining there again!!
We were there for a girls weekend.
It was ungodly hot in the restaurant we had appetizers and a bottle of wine by open windows and doors.
Great place just hot.
Sorry to say we did not eat here. I can't rate the food because we only had water, but a score is required to write a review so I gave it 3 stars. The dining room was quite and the decor was very classy. The server was very friendly. However, the inside temperature was uncomfortably hot. I asked if the AC was working and was told that they could open a window. So, I'm not sure if the AC was broken or if they just didn't have it. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we were looking forward to eating here, but we left because neither of us could imagine eating hot food inside a hot restaurant. Maybe we will try again in the fall.
Lobster nachos were terrific as was the pork chop. The facility was much too hot, fans did not reach most and the best place (outside) only had limited seating.
We were only there for lunch. Food was average, service was above average. On par with other everyday lunch places in Blowing Rock.
Food is overpriced for what you get. I ordered the seafood gumbo for $20 and it was bland and just not something I thought was worth $20. The seafood gumbo was the best looking thing on the menu also! It's definitely an older crowd in the restaurant but that didn't stop the lady in front of me from taking off her shoe and placing her barefoot on the table to show the group at her table something on the bottom of her foot. Cocktail drinks were okay but for the money spent on them its better to go to the rooftop bar in downtown Boone where they actually make great drinks . Overall super disappointed asked for an outdoor table but was ignored.
Excellent food!! The shrimp and corn chowder was superb. Succulent large shrimp, chock full, with lovely subtle flavors. I had the shrimp burger, very tasty with just a bit of kick. The fries that came with it were killer good. Hubby’s meatloaf also hit the killer good Richter scale. Go there. Make reservations...very busy in the summer.
Excellent food. Delicious martinis! Tried many seasonal items and they all were amazing!
The food (pork chops with sweet potatoes and spinach) was amazing, the wine really good (Newsprint Cab), and servers showed just the right attentiveness and were fun to talk with.
We enjoyed the casual ambiance of this restaurant. The decor is very attractive and table spacing is wide enough to allow conversation. Food quality on the relatively small menu is very good but nothing outstanding. My husband's blackened fish was too spicy but my bison burger was well-seasoned and tasty. Salads were very fresh with a variety of greens and vegetables, and house-made Greek Vinaigrette dressing was delicious. Service was prompt and efficient, too. The wine list is extensive.
Prices are reasonable and those who enjoy upscale casual dining will be pleased.
Terrible dining experience. Sloppy service. Messed up orders on several counts. After forgetting to bring us the apps we ordered they really messed up the mains. We ordered flounder and they gave my wife tilapia. When I complained they insisted it was flounder. The fishes don’t look anything like each other. I cook flounder all the time. It is a different texture and flavor. This was not just dishonesty (tilapia is much cheaper and passing it off as flounder is a bad business practice) but also unsafe. People have particular fish allergies. When a restaurant lies about menu items they risk serious reactions.
Used to be good. Now a place to avoid.
Thx for great evening!
Ambiance LOUD!!!! prepare to shout to be heard
service excellent
food poor
will not return
Remy was an exceptional waitress and answered all our questions and made some great food and drink suggestions. We have dined here many times and always love the food and atmosphere. Great Blowing Rock treasure!
We've dined at The New Public House many times over the last three years, usually on Thursday night when they have the locals' menu. This last time was on a Friday night which gave us an opportunity to choose from a slightly different menu. From our party of four, one chose the seafood gumbo, another chose the beef gyro, one chose the blackened flounder and another chose the meatloaf. All of us were pleased with our choices. Josh was our server - he answered all of our questions and took very good care of us. We'll definitely be back.
Took over 45 minutes to get out drink order, by that point we had all of our food (order was placed 10 minutes after we ordered drinks). Server (Allie) was great, very professional, and apologetic but pretty unreal that they couldn’t get us a drink before the food came out. Food was good but not enough to make up for the lack of process. Taking this one off the list.
