We were there for a girls weekend.
It was ungodly hot in the restaurant we had appetizers and a bottle of wine by open windows and doors.
Great place just hot.
Sorry to say we did not eat here. I can't rate the food because we only had water, but a score is required to write a review so I gave it 3 stars. The dining room was quite and the decor was very classy. The server was very friendly. However, the inside temperature was uncomfortably hot. I asked if the AC was working and was told that they could open a window. So, I'm not sure if the AC was broken or if they just didn't have it. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we were looking forward to eating here, but we left because neither of us could imagine eating hot food inside a hot restaurant. Maybe we will try again in the fall.
Lobster nachos were terrific as was the pork chop. The facility was much too hot, fans did not reach most and the best place (outside) only had limited seating.
We were only there for lunch. Food was average, service was above average. On par with other everyday lunch places in Blowing Rock.
Food is overpriced for what you get. I ordered the seafood gumbo for $20 and it was bland and just not something I thought was worth $20. The seafood gumbo was the best looking thing on the menu also! It's definitely an older crowd in the restaurant but that didn't stop the lady in front of me from taking off her shoe and placing her barefoot on the table to show the group at her table something on the bottom of her foot. Cocktail drinks were okay but for the money spent on them its better to go to the rooftop bar in downtown Boone where they actually make great drinks . Overall super disappointed asked for an outdoor table but was ignored.
Excellent food!! The shrimp and corn chowder was superb. Succulent large shrimp, chock full, with lovely subtle flavors. I had the shrimp burger, very tasty with just a bit of kick. The fries that came with it were killer good. Hubby’s meatloaf also hit the killer good Richter scale. Go there. Make reservations...very busy in the summer.
Excellent food. Delicious martinis! Tried many seasonal items and they all were amazing!
The food (pork chops with sweet potatoes and spinach) was amazing, the wine really good (Newsprint Cab), and servers showed just the right attentiveness and were fun to talk with.
We enjoyed the casual ambiance of this restaurant. The decor is very attractive and table spacing is wide enough to allow conversation. Food quality on the relatively small menu is very good but nothing outstanding. My husband's blackened fish was too spicy but my bison burger was well-seasoned and tasty. Salads were very fresh with a variety of greens and vegetables, and house-made Greek Vinaigrette dressing was delicious. Service was prompt and efficient, too. The wine list is extensive.
Prices are reasonable and those who enjoy upscale casual dining will be pleased.
Terrible dining experience. Sloppy service. Messed up orders on several counts. After forgetting to bring us the apps we ordered they really messed up the mains. We ordered flounder and they gave my wife tilapia. When I complained they insisted it was flounder. The fishes don’t look anything like each other. I cook flounder all the time. It is a different texture and flavor. This was not just dishonesty (tilapia is much cheaper and passing it off as flounder is a bad business practice) but also unsafe. People have particular fish allergies. When a restaurant lies about menu items they risk serious reactions.
Used to be good. Now a place to avoid.
Thx for great evening!
Ambiance LOUD!!!! prepare to shout to be heard
will not return
Remy was an exceptional waitress and answered all our questions and made some great food and drink suggestions. We have dined here many times and always love the food and atmosphere. Great Blowing Rock treasure!
We've dined at The New Public House many times over the last three years, usually on Thursday night when they have the locals' menu. This last time was on a Friday night which gave us an opportunity to choose from a slightly different menu. From our party of four, one chose the seafood gumbo, another chose the beef gyro, one chose the blackened flounder and another chose the meatloaf. All of us were pleased with our choices. Josh was our server - he answered all of our questions and took very good care of us. We'll definitely be back.
Took over 45 minutes to get out drink order, by that point we had all of our food (order was placed 10 minutes after we ordered drinks). Server (Allie) was great, very professional, and apologetic but pretty unreal that they couldn’t get us a drink before the food came out. Food was good but not enough to make up for the lack of process. Taking this one off the list.
We love the food and the atmosphere at the New Public House. Our go-to restaurant!
We had brunch on Sun., Jun 30. We had the cat head biscuit and the French toast with berries and chicken sausage. The berries were so fresh! The atmosphere was very pleasant for a wonderful Sunday brunch. Our server was attentive and helpful since we were new to visiting the area. We will be back!
This was our third visit to the New Public House and outstanding as always. We love the outdoor sitting area and beautiful flowers around it. We both had the lobster and scallop nachos as an entree -- they did not disappoint! Megan was our server and was very sweet. We'll be back on our next trip to Blowing Rock!
Everything in the menu looked so wonderful that we kinda overordered. Started with Smoked Trout Dip. We couldn't finish it but would've licked the bowl if we did! I was in major seafood mode so I ordered the Lobster and Scallop Nachos as an entree which was fabulous. My friend ordered the meatloaf which was also delightful, best mashed potatoes ever! Three gruyere okra was done in a cornmeal batter and wonderful too. We also shared a side of cornbread which was not exactly traditional Southern Cornbread but way better. The corn meal was so fresh and tasty, I wanted to but a bag to take home.
The food was so-so this time. And please stop putting cold draft been in hot glasses out of the dishwasher. Put some ice water in the glass swirl it around and cool the glass of before you put the been in it.
This restaurant has lots of great dishes. I just ordered one that had issues.
Best cornbread I have had in a very long time! We happened to be there when a large party was there as well. That party was loud but not rowdy, we prefer a more quiet setting. It wasn’t a problem, just not our preference. The quality of the food outweighed any negatives.
Have been here before many times over the years.Experience this time only fair to good. Nothing more, nothing less. “Signature” lobster/scallop nacho appetizer had one little piece of lobster, and I do mean little, and a few bay scallops. $ 15 worth of chips and sauce. In hindsight we should have sent it back. Wine was misrepresented as a blend- drinkable- borderline “send it back” but wildly overpriced. We should have stuck with the burgers, but you can get good burgers anywhere. Not a disaster but disappointing.
We bought some out of town guests here for a nice brunch because we knew they would not disappoint. Everyone was thrilled. Outstanding service from Rob! Everyone loved their food!
It was a perfect breakfast. Foggy morning and we sat outside.
Great food and service. Always eat here while in Blo wing Rock.
The fish and chips are great and love the collards
Great food, but the service was horrible. It was 15 minutes before anyone even looked at our table to bring water to us, and that was after we flagged someone down. No air conditioning made it a very hot and long wait for food. When the food arrived it was great, but I wouldn’t go back.
We were the only people in the front room. Dull.
The cornbread for 2 was good. The chopped Caesar salad was not a chopped salad. The lettuce was as big as my hand. Also, blah dressing and seriously underdressed. Hamburger good. Fish on fish and chips good. Fries were the high point. Delicious. Slaw with fish and chips was seriously underdressed. Really nothing on the veggies. Service was slowish but we were not in a hurry and server was pleasant. Also, they were out of the beer we ordered. We would recommend with some reservation.
Went for breakfast. Food was excellent. Biscuits and gravy was very tasty and French toast was great.
Great! Server was adorable!!! Food great!
New Public House is a great farm to table restaurant with fun small plates and shareable items and tempting burgers and entrees. My husband and I shared the smoked trout dip, which was amazing; Fish & chips, which was also so good. We also loved the scallop and lobster nachos. If you're there and you see the Lengua sliders (beef tongue), do yourself a favor and GET THEM. All in all the experience was wonderful and we're so happy to have a place like this nearby.
Great spot off the main drag - excellent food and family friendly! Easy return in the near future for sure
Fantastic meal. Service was excellent. I usually look for the negative, but this was a purely positive experience. The value was very good as well.
Enjoyable and cozy breakfast spot with heat service and good food. Only the oatmeal was subpar; the rest of the food (biscuit sandwiches, French toast, etc) was very good and fairly priced.
Definitely one of our favorites!
We had eaten at this restaurant last year and it was very good. But not this time. Service was terrible. Food just average. Not sure what happened. Very disappointed.
Great meal. Will definitely go back and have told others the same.
It’s was amazing
Cheeseburgers were under cooked. Fries were over cooked and seemed they had been sitting under a warmer for awhile.
Food was okay/average as was the service. Nothing special. Be warned that the chairs only fit a size 0.
