The Neighbors Place Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time here and the food was pretty good. It was a warm environment and somewhat cozy. However, when I placed our reservation online, I mentioned that it was our anniversary and asked if they could do something special if they did anything. At the end of the night, our waitress wasn't even aware it was our anniversary when I mentioned it! I don't mind that they didn't do anything, but it was a little disappointing for our special occasion.
We dined at The Neighbor's Place after reading all the positive reviews, and the experience did not disappoint. We enjoyed the beautiful outdoor seating overlooking the mountains, soaking in one of the last warm days of fall. Our waiter was phenomenal! Made great suggestions, had a lovely sense of humor, and was extremely prompt with refilling our drinks or accommodating us in any way.
For an appetizer, we shared the seared ahi tuna and an order of the shrimp and scallops over sauteed spinach. The ahi was very good. It was cooked a little more than I am accustomed to, however still very good. The shrimp and scallops were mediocre, but the bed of sauteed spinach with grated parmesan was amazing!
For our entrees we ordered the sesame salmon with green beans and mixed vegetables, the ribeye steak special with mixed vegetables and fries, and the cajun neighbor over the whole wheat pasta. The ribeye was cooked to temperature perfectly at medium rare. The mixed vegetables were very flavorful, and the green beans were amazing! The cajun neighbor was full of spice and very filling. The sesame salmon was disappointing. The flavor was nice, however after finding the fourth bone in the "filet", I stopped eating it.
All in all, a wonderful experience. I would definitely return, however I would not order the salmon again.
This restaurant is in a very busy area in Forest called Wyndhurst. It is always busy and the noise level is loud, which makes it difficult for business meetings and private conversations. I always ask for a booth to block some of the noise. The sandwiches and salads are always good. I had the ahi tuna salad and it was very good. My guest had a Caesar salad with chicken.
The food was great. I had scallops-perfectly seared-on a bed of perfectly seasoned spinach and a side spinach salad (fresh, perfectly sized and balanced with a great dressing). Sorry, realize I keep saying perfect, but it really was! My husband had steak and shrimp. They retained their individual flavors in the sauce and it has been awhile since he has had a steak that was cooked exactly as he ordered. They had "honest" mixed drinks, i.e. you could actually taste alcohol and not just mixer. It was a nice afternoon and we were the first ones to eat out on their spacious deck and that was really nice. Our waiter was Nelson, who was great! Good recommendations and explanations. He didn't hover and keep asking if everything was ok or if we were enjoying the food, as is common now, to the point of being annoying, but we were, from a distance, constantly in his radar. Water, when depleted, just appeared; when a drink was finished, he came and asked if we would like another. He paced delivery of drinks, courses, etc. very well. Beware of the desserts! We usually just share one ( and they are smaller than I would normally make at home) but we couldn't decide on a share, so we each got one. He got the brownie (2 actually) with pretzel crust (nice sweet/salty vibe) with ice cream (two scoops) and chocolate and caramel sauce. I got the mocha pie (Nelson said they make their own ice cream) which came on an Oreo crust and was covered with whipped cream and also drizzled with both chocolate and caramel. It was the biggest dessert I have ever seen as well as being inexpensive (maybe 6 dollars?)! My hand measures roughly 8x5 inches at its longest and widest and this dessert wedge was as wide as my hand at the base, and both taller and longer than 8 in. It would have been a meal in itself if we had not already had a lovely meal. If we lived in Lynchburg, we would probably go in for dessert and coffee in lieu of dinner.
Thanks for a nice evening!
With the hottest nights of July, their air condition went out! However, the staff couldn't have been nicer and there were maintenance people working on the unit that evening. Still, the meal was fantastic! We both had seafood entres which were delicious and cooked just right! We'll look forward to going back soon!
I have dined at Neighbors for over eleven years and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent! Various menu options, cooked to your preference. It is the only place I take out-town-guest, because the food and service is always excellent. Weather permitting, outside dining with a very pretty view.
Came here for Graduation and Birthday celebration! Had a reservation at 7:30 and was perplexed that groups our size were being seated right away without a reservation. Waited approximately 15 mins and was finally seated. From here everything was fantastic! The food is amazing and the prices are unbelievable for what you get. Truly a gem and a wonderful place.
Excellent everything. The service was great and the food was even better. My family was in town for Liberty's graduation so I made reservations, hoping everyone would be pleased with the food and the service. The food came out quick, hot, and tasted delicious. We actually went there again the following day because of how enjoyable it was.
Many menu options in all categories from salad to steak and then some. Delish salads, especially (it's what I usually get). Yummy desserts to choose from. It's definitely a noisy open place, but that's fine for me with kids or a larger group. My children like to watch the open kitchen activity. Service was terrific! Prices are in line with quality and portions. Try it out!
The shrimp and grits were not good. The beer was good and my tuna salad was acceptable but didn't need almonds on it. It's as if they want to be more by adding the more sophisticated items but lack the execution. There were Pernod mussels on the menu. I can't eat mussels but that sounded great but I would hesitate to eat anything but bar food here. It is very basic and serves the small upscale section of a very rural location. Stick with the cheese fries and beer.
We were very pleased with the scallops and the rib eye dinner. The sweet potato casserole taste like our family recipe . Clearly they enjoy cooking here because they do it very well. I will be back the next time I m in town. Did not have room for desert almost went back the next day just to try one because they all looked great.
