The Narrows Steakhouse
Took almost 3 hours, our glasses sat empty most of the time. Food was just OK. The wagyu black sirloin was not worth the price, typically wagyu melts in your mouth, this was chewy. Will not go back, not worth the $400 price tag.
Very nice restaurant with beautiful view! Service ( Michael) was professional, very helpful and pleasant. Before dinner cocktails were weak! Martinis tasted like water; shaken with ice way too long.
Food was very good! Halibut was excellent; beautifully prepared. Steaks (small fillets) were a little over done for mid rare ( that's my opinion and honestly so subjective). We were impressed and grateful to Michael for his subtle guidance over our meal. Overall, a lovely experience! And, dessert was heavenly!!!! Butterscotch something.. Divine!
Just a couple of little quibbles: I have real heart burn about paying an extra $7.00 for a baked potato when I'm already paying $ 40/ 50 dollar for my steak! This alla carte design has become more popular with many chain steak houses and frankly it's obscene. Lastly, $25.00 dollars for six very nice Oysters is ridiculous! Just my take . 4 stars for restaurant!
We had a wonderful Evening and the food and service was amazing. If we are ever back in McCall we will definitely dine at The Narrows again.

A treat for a special occasion. Great food and service!
Very quiet, lovely table next to lake view. Server was great! Started with ravioli app, on the house, and it was delish. Oysters were very fresh and yummy! Ceasar was excellent; we split it and it was plenty.
We had a filet and a ribeye and shared a stuffed potato. Very tasty, especially the ribeye. and of course had to have creme brulee for desert and it was very good. The only disappointment really was the espresso with desert, very weak. But otherwise an excellent experience to splurge on!
Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit, and look forward to seeing you again soon. Sincerely, Dan Scott General Manager
We should have known better than to order seafood in a landlocked location. Although it’s a beautiful place with great service, the shrimp, salmon and Brussel sprouts we had were over cooked, under seasoned, and very blah. We did come back to the bar the next night because the ambience was so great but we would not eat here again.
Refreshing service. Nice ambiance. Flavorful food. Enjoyable experience.
Been to the Narrows several times since it opened. It continually disappoints. The narrows is trying to be a high end steak house, but falls way short. Service is spotty at best. Food is very incosistwnt and it is normal for them to be out of several many items. This time we had two entrees. The pheasant was ok, the gnocchi was not good. The flavors didn’t go well together and the inside of the gnocci was gray. It’s very disappointing as we keep going back hoping it will be better, it just isn’t improving. On previous trips I have was served steak that was luke warm on the outside (had been sitting in the kitchen). I wouldn’t complain about that at a Sizzler, but it’s not what a $60 steak is supposed to be.
Dinner was a great experience. Very romantic/cozy atmosphere. Particularly good for a special night out!
It was a nice fine dining experience and the food was good but there was a huge hair wrapped around my steak which made it less desirable
Thank you for your review. We are terribly sorry to hear about your experience and assure you that this is not indicative of our values here at The Narrows Steakhouse. My wife Peggy and I celebrate our anniversary every year at Shore Lodge, and we have since our honeymoon in February 1972. Our dining experience has always been spectacular. The room temperature this year was a little on the cool side, but it was a Monday night and our table of 5 were the only customers for 3/4 of our evening. The food and service were 5 star!
Fabulous steak, great sides and cocktails, excellent service
We celebrated my wife's birthday at The Narrows. I had a steak and she had the salmon, and both were excellent. The staff was attentive and very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Food, ambiance, and service were all amazing! The steaks were cooked to perfection, the sauces and butter selections make it one of the best steaks we have ever had!
Excellent dinner and service. Best experience in McCall.
Great night out. Memorable food, atmosphere and staff.
We stayed at Shore Lodge for a Saturday night and the food and surroundings made us never leave the building!
This was our second visit to the Narrows. It is an excellent restaurant. The ambiance is lovely with a great view of the Payette Lake. The service is outstanding, professional and courteous. The food is wonderful as well. We had tenderloins that were cooked exactly as we asked. The amuse bouche was a nice touch at the beginning of the meal. They even served a complimentary dessert as it was a birthday. It is more expensive than our other local restaurants, but for a special occasion, it was delightful.
We went on a Tuesday night at 7pm in early December and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The waiter was wonderful and made sure we had a great experience. Their wine selection was good and the cocktail list was perfect for a mountain location. My husband and I both had the Caesar salad to start, which had its unique twist since the croutons were made out of polenta and there was a delicious fried hard boiled egg to go along with it, too. For our main course we both had the tenderloin, which was cooked to perfection, and some thin french fries to go on the side. We were given the option of choosing our own steak knife too, which we thought was pretty cool and unique. It was a lovely experience overall.
Best food !! The service staff was amazing, polite, courteous and just all around perfect. I took my wife there for her 40 th birthday. The waitress even surprised her with a cup cake with a candle!!! We had a great time!
I did the tomahawk steak!!!
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Narrows overlooking the pristine Payette Lake. The steaks and lobster were absolutely perfect. The beef was full of flavor, seasoned to perfection and cooked exactly to our order. The special touches offered by the restaurant are fantastic, for example, I love to select my steak knife from a collection at the table. I can't recommend the restaurant highly enough!
We had Thanksgiving dinner here. They weren’t serving the traditional turkey dinner which was fine with us. We easily found menu items that appealed to us. Prices are high and luckily the food didn’t disappoint like the last time I had dined here a few years back. There’s been a redesign in the meantime and the restaurant appears smaller now with a bar/lounge in its place. It has an old-school vibe that should have been updated more than it was. I’m 62 and it felt “old” to me. Service was good but a few mistakes were annoying. After saying that my husband was a gluten free pescatarian, an amuse bouche with meat was served to him and bread pudding was recommended for dessert. But the server was friendly and the food was really good. Foie gras appetizer, the poussin special and persimmon ice cream were standouts. The energy in the room was quiet as it is slow season in this mountain lake town.
Really love this little gem on the waterfront of McCall Lake in the Shore Lodge. McCall's version of Maestro's.
Jessica was an amazing waitress. Very attentive and friendly. Had a lot of knowledge and made good recommendations. The rest of the Narrows team was also attentive to our needs and made it a special evening.
Went during off season and found the staff to be happy and attentive not burnt out after the summer rush. Food was the best I have found in the area. Expensive but worth it. The view out over the lake from out table was great.
Great food and atmosphere. Restaurant was quiet but the service and the food were very good. Staff was sensitive to dietary needs, which is very appreciated. Great place for fine dining with awesome views!
The narrows was by far the best dining experience I’ve ever had! Sarai our server exceeded all expectations and was so knowledgeable! ( I honesty think I learned a few things about food I didn’t already know) Her recommendations paired with the superb quality of cuisine made the experience more than worth it!!! Literally 5 stars for this restaurant. I felt as if I truly was dining in luxury. Food quality, price, ambiance, service, were absolutely outstanding!!! Cheers to you and all the staff at shorelodge & Narrows!!! Thank you for taking such great care of us!!! Sincerely James & Elizabeth
My husband and I had a really great special dinner. The food was amazing as was the view. Lots of attention to detail including being able to pick our own steak knife was a very fun twist. The prices are excessive if you don't normally eat at a place like this but definitely a fun splurge if you plan for it.
One of the best menus we have experienced. Food was delicious and the view and ambiance superb!
Excellent food and service. The Baseball Cut Sirloin is a very flavorful combination of Wagu and Kobe. I love the selection of one or more sauces you can choose from and your choice of steak knives to use. The sides are separate but all very good and shareable size. Best garlic shoestring fries. I'm addicted to their Lobster Mac & Cheese with Smoked Gouda and Andouille sausage. The service is knowledgeable and relaxed. Well worth the cost. You must try at least once. If you do I'm sure you'll come back, we have.
Great food and service. Outstanding wine list - especially Burgundy and Bordeaux selections. Taylor has done an incredible job cultivating one of the most exciting wine lists in Idaho.
An amazing dinner experience.
The restaurant is beautifully appointed and the view is spectacular. Unfortunately, the evening we dined the steaks were not of the quality the price would dictate. We, however, were not charged for the steaks when we mentioned it, otherwise it has great ambiance and menu.
It was a great experience! 4 friends splurging because we can. After? Food was great, wait staff was great, ambiance was great! Weird to say it was great, but way more pricey than we’re willing to spend again:-(
Best steak I’ve ever had! While pricey on its own at $48 the ribeye was 16oz so my husband and I shared one. The steak was well marbled and cooked to perfection. We ordered it topped with the shallot truffle butter. Yum! We rounded out the dinner, each with our own salads (he the wedge, me the pear blue cheese) and a shared order of grilled asparagus with shaved ricotta. Didn’t have wine but had our favorite steakhouse cocktails - Manhattans. All in all a great dining experience. Oh yes, the service from waiter Lee and attention from manager Jim were excellent. And anyone who has been to Shore Lodge knows the views are unbeatable.
Service was excellent. Food delicious and the view was gorgeous
The staff was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant had a beautiful view of Payette Lake. However, the restaurant decor was old and needed updating. The prices were higher than the quality of food that was served. Would not return.
Excellent service from Laura. Baseball cut steak was delicious and cooked perfectly.
Great food prepared to order. Service was friendly and efficient. A bit speedy but worth it occasionally.
Service was slow...possibly due to a large party that arrived shortly ahead of us. Steak was good but salmon was not worth the price. Prices were premium but there are other paces in town that are good alternatives at a much better value. Ingredients were fresh. Head waiter was very gracious and helpful. Really nice views.
