The Mustard Seed
It was a lovely dinner. We enjoyed our food and there’s no other real choice in Davis...
This was our second visit in the last few months. In both cases, the meals were superb. What a treat to have a gem like this in our town! So far we have sampled the ahi tuna, scallops, and duck entrees. The presentation is absolutely lovely. We don't eat a lot, so take advantage of the $6 split fee – still beautifully served. That way we can get an appetizer and a salad. The service was gracious and attentive, and our waiter made a great wine suggestion. Have not yet tried the desserts.
What a wonderful place in Davis right next to the Pence Gallery. Everything was excellent and we will definitely return. They split the ahi dinner for us and it was more than enough after a few salads and appetizers. And nice to see wine by the glass wasn't over priced.
Food was great. Service was slow.
Cozy friendly with Innovative food and excellent wine list. Attentive service. A gem!
New management. Same chefs. Same menu. Food was excellent. The crab cake appetizer and smoked salmon appetizers were amazing. Could be at any overly expensive restaurant. Prices are a little high but likely to support the excellent staff. Would go again without hesitation.
Excellent food, attentive service, very nice people.
Food was excellent!
We had a very pleasant dinner (not our first time at the Mustard Seed but the first time under the new owners). The food (shared appetizer, main, and dessert) was excellent and the service efficient and unobtrusive. We enjoyed the wine choices. We started out sitting inside, but the lighting was much too bright for our liking (much brighter than our previous visit) and it was too cold due to the excessive A/C (not an uncommon problem in many restaurants here). We changed to an outdoor table which was perfect - quiet, with subdued lighting and perfect temperature (October in California!).
Overall our trip was good! It has a nice romantic atmosphere, but there were many large parties that were able to be taken, especially in the outdoor area. The music was a bit loud, but manageable. The service was also fantastic.
such a fantastic find in Davis - wonderful delicious food, robust portions, charming and very cozy ambiance, great service. we loved this place and will be back.
Went with my business partner on the last day in Davis. We were here for several meetings, and while the food in Davis is generally good it really caters to the students. The Mustard Seed is different, very reminiscent of a French bistro (as in France!) with excellent service and food. Wine list is very good, and all the food was great so not sure what to recommend. I visit UC Davis infrequently, but will certainly make this a part of any future visit.
The food and service is always top notch!
Apparently under new management but good as it used to be. New menu to me. next time I go there I will take a cushion though, chairs not comfortable.
Wonderful setting and service. Delicious food
The food was delicious. We’ll be back again, for sure.
Probably the best restaurant in Davis in all respects!
Service was impeccable, food was excellent. Such a beautiful outdoor patio, we had a really lovely evening. Definitely will be back!
We really enjoyed the food in Mustard Seed. Our only problem was that it took about an hour for food to be serviced, which was a bit more than usual. Except from that, we highly recommend this place for families and couples :)
Exquisite food, well presented from a very tasty menu. Superb for a memory event.
Really nice spot in Davis, CA. Food and service were both excellent. We will definitely return here the next time were are in Davis.
The food and service was good.
We felt the duck was a little undercooked and the amount of sauce on the meat overpowered the meat on the duck and the lamb.
The steak and lamb were good and cooked to perfection.
We would visit the restaurant again.
Very good food and good service
Great food, great service and great atmosphere! What more could you ask for!
Food is prepared well but with little imagination. Steep prices, but large portions. Service was OK, had to wait a while for the entrees.
Went to visit a friend who relocated from Oakland. A very nice local find. Interesting versions of traditional dishes. The service was just a little bit slow, but would definitely return.
My long-time favorite curried tuna salad is still on the menu, and as good as ever with the new owners. However, I missed having a larger number of purple grapes and, especially, the orange bread that came with the salad version. Plain baguette just doesn't complement the curry flavor.
The profiteroles were delicious, but there were only two instead of the three that used to arrive on a rectangular plate. The presentation, however, was quite beautiful.
Meal was amazing as usual! And the ambiance and service was impeccable!
Private business meeting
My wife and I celebrated our 37th anniversary with a very pleasant dining experience at The Mustard Seed. The new owners are very gracious and attentive hosts and the food was outstanding! We loved the rustic pate appetizer, cucumber and watermelon salad (which we shared) and our entrees: the langoustine gnocchi and the very fresh scallops in a spicy curry with forbidden rice. Don’t miss the profiteroles for dessert - perfect with coffee.
We liked everything about our Dinner at Mustard Seed! High end quality and service at reasonable prices. Would recommend it to anyone and with the cool environment, think it would be especially nice for soecial occasions.
The patio setting was lively on a warm summer night. Service was very slow. Food very good.
The Mustard Seed has new owners who could not be nicer! The quality icgge food is superb. This is my favorite restaurant in Davis.
The Mustard Seed was very busy when we came and the density made it fairly loud. we opted to sit outside and once the neighboring table, which was really loud left, it was delightful. The food was excellent and well worth the wait.
Good food and service! We will be back! The scallop dish is very good!
Crab cakes were superb - best I have ever had! Gnocchis as main course was top notch. Poured by glass Wine list was OK, but short list. Overall, excellent.
It was a perfect place for a quiet birthday dinner. Definitely going back just for the food.
I had the seared Ahi which was cooked exactly as I ordered with the waiter - I wanted the sear to be a little longer than normal. My wife had the scallops and they were cooked perfectly and the spice was just right enough to be warm but not too much. Looking forward to more dinners in the fall in the back patio.
The food was excellent . The service was attentive but not overbearing. The restaurant is divided into separate spaces, which keeps each space quiet and appealingly intimate.
Amazing staff, amazing food, an all around wonderful dining experience!
