Absolutely top notch super-delicious spot. The wines are a real treat - rare finds that all have one thing in common: they are SUPERB. I have been here three times so far and can't wait to go back for another special occasion. The only downside is the ambiance: it's a little sterile. But given the heavenly food and wine experience, am willing to take it.
The Musket Room was 100% amazing. The food was delicious. The service was awesome. Great restaurant!!
I'm a New Zealander in New York. I took Australian friends to this outstanding restaurant with a New Zealand owner/chef and we were all blown away. Can't recommend it highly enough for special occasions!
Everything about our experience was phenomenal. Service was great, both of us had the short story tasting and the food was amazing and everyone was very accommodating to my girlfriend’s gluten and shellfish allergies. I can’t say enough great things about this restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience
The Musket Room is quite an experience. We chose the short list and delicious food kept coming!
As New Zealanders we were proud of the concept and the Kumeu River Chardonnay. New Zealand is not over emphasised apart from in the menu.
Highlight dishes were the lamb and the amuse bouch chocolate. I will say no more to keep the surprise element intact
A great night!

Having had no idea what New Zealand cuisine would look like, went into this meal with an open mind. The food was amazing. Very good size portions and good value for the money. The smoked foie was excellent and paired well with a honey bread. The elk was perfect to split amongst 2 people. The brown butter sauce that was paired with skate and mussels made a delicate dish extremely flavorful. I will certainly be back.
We tried the long tasting story with wine pairing. Food at a high level with inventive combinations of food. Nice ambiance. My son under 21 joined during the mail. The Musket Room provided him with a pairing of non-alcoholic cocktails. Must visit restaurant if you are into fine dining.
Definitely gets a two thumbs up from my wife and I. In the realm of Michelin star restaurants this one stands out for it’s relaxed atmosphere and casualness. Friendly knowledgeable staff are not in the least pretentious and very well versed in the menu, it ingredients and also the wine.
As a side note, we also liked the background music, a hip blend of 80’s / 90’s indie tracks plus a bit of Britpop. Very cool.
Lovely ambience, fun regional menu, great staff. We recommend the New Zealand Red Deer !
One of the BEST meals we have ever had!! Amazing experience!!
Once again the resturant never fails to impress. Matt and the team make this an absolute must for anyone visiting NY.
We got the small tasting menu. Food was carefully prepared and unusual but a bit forced. The beef was delicious but was wrapped in something with a slightly bitter taste. The accompanying rutabaga was delicious. Why would anyone want three courses of dessert? The second course was outstanding with delicious caramel sauce. The final course was mostly sugar and cream. Best part was the strawberries but not enough of them. Overall enjoyable but not a memorable wow.
second time there. food was without any flaws. service was great
We had a very good time. We chose the short story menu, which was enough for us. Everything from start to end was delicious, delicate and very tasty. I would definitely recommend it. The noise level was a bit high because of a group nearby but once they left it was fine.
Almost flawless. Elegant, delicious food delivered with aplomb.
I have been lucky enough to visit many Michelin starred places around the world but this one is truly memorable. The combination of unique and interesting food that was superbly executed, the excellent wine pairings and a knowledgeable but friendly staff made for a fantastic evening. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough.
Took too long.
Our server, Sean, was awesome! Service overall was very good. It’s reasonsbly priced for a tasting menu. I just wasn’t that impressed with some of the food (we did the short story tasting menu). Some items were delicious but some were just not our thing.
Wonderfully creative and delicious food. The wine pairings were perfect as well.
Absolutely terrific! The dry aged steak is one of the best red meat I have ever put into my mouth.
Excellent Kiwi cuisine and reasonable service on a busy Saturday night. NZ Pinot Noir outstanding All reasonably priced
AMAZING! One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been.
Always an incredible meal. One of my go-to spots to take out of towners who enjoy their food or definitely date night.
I had no choice but to give everything 5 stars because that’s what it deserved - I would have given more if I could!! The staff were friendly, courteous, super-knowledgeable on both the food and the wine. They were very busy but you would not have known by the staff’s attention to everyone or the noise level. If you are a true “foodie” this is the place for you.
Excellent tasting menu.
Thanks so much - we really enjoyed our evening! The presentation of the meals and the overall service was really lovely. The deer was particularly delicious - I'm still thinking about it days later!
Third time here, enjoyed the first two but this time was disappointing. Slow reaction from the waiter, out of wine for our first choice, food was ok, but didn’t really impress us much, unlike the first visits. Ordered a simple meal for my 10 year old son, and found out that options are extremely limited, and when settled for dumplings, he wouldn’t even try them. In the end, too much money for an ok food and slow service.
Did the short tasting course which was amazing and the perfect amount of food. Paired with the wine was spectacular - the staff was extremely accommodating and friendly as well.
Thank you so much for an awesome evening. The food was spectacular as was the service. We went a la carte for the first time in a while and it was exceptional. Awesome wine list too. Everything about this place is fantastic and the attention to detail superb.
We had an excellent night, we were made to feel very special. Thanks so much.
Amazing food and ambience! Highly recommend for a unique dining experience
Overall we had a great dining experience. We dined at the bar and the bartender was very friendly. He was very informative regarding the menu and provided backstory to menu items an
This was the best meal we’ve had in years. The reviews I read didn’t do justice to this restaurant. Food was exquisite and creative, service was so perfect we felt like royalty. We had the “Short Story” tasting menu and we were stuffed by the end. This restaurant is really going for it.
Just amazing food, wine, and ambience. Had a wonderful night
My girlfriend and I had found out about the musket room through an NYC dining blog. Upon our initial look at their menu, we thought their dishes seemed creative and different from the ordinary fine dining fare. We decided to book a reservation, expecting an enjoyable experience, and innovative food. However, our expectations were exceeded in every facet. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the food was phenomenal. However, what brought the Musket Room over the top, and the reason I am writing this review is there outstanding service.
Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and provided meaningful insight into the menu. We ordered two appetizers, the Spanish Mackerel and Smoked Ora King Salmon, and the Red Deer and Long Island Duck Breast for our entrees (all of which were delicious). Upon bringing out our entrees we noticed the waitstaff had made a slight mix up and served us the ricotta dumplings instead of the duck we had ordered. This was no big deal to us whatsoever, because things of this nature occur every now and again. We brought it to the attention of our waiter, and not only did he apologize for the extremely minor mistake, but also he brought us out two complementary servings of the Foie Gras appetizer. My girlfriend and I are very easygoing people and an apology would have sufficed, however the extra effort to foster good relations and provide excellent service does not go unnoticed. We greatly appreciate the experience provided to us by the Musket Room and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for innovative cuisine and excellent service.
Wonderful tasting menu with wine pairing!
Creatively conceived and artfully presented dishes featuring the cuisine and wine of New Zealand. Gracious but unpretentious service. Thoughtfully designed, well-lit and comfortable surroundings bring the blood pressure down, inviting focus on the experience. The a la carte menu did not disappoint in light of the Michelin star. Can’t wait to come back for the tasting menu some time.
Food was great up to the dessert course. There were too many sweet courses and the order of the desserts was off.
A palate cleanser followed by a delicious tarty dessert and then by a super rich bland dessert (chocolate raspberry) was a disappointing way to end an otherwise delicious tasting menu. the chocolate raspberry dessert was bland and very rich; especially after having a refreshing tarty dessert. The tasting ended on a pretty subpar note which is a shame since it started off very strong. The wait in between courses was also quite long which didn’t help.
Like a little piece of NZ in New York. And a very good piece at that. In terms of dining quality think of Botswana Butchery, Hummingbird, Hippo etc. The vibe is v cool and friendly and the decor is modern without being at all stark. Treat your to a visit.
Exquisite flavors and presentation in an understated venue. A hidden gem and welcomed discovery in a saturated food city.
