About The Musket Room
The Musket Room brings the spirit of New Zealand and the country’s diverse cuisine to Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood. Chef and owner Matt Lambert, a New Zealand native, created a menu that charts the evolution of New Zealand cuisine, from the country’s Old World traditions and Asian influences to its modern day dedication to local and seasonal offerings.
Inspired by an era in New Zealand when adventure and discovery blossomed, The Musket Room offers a modern approach to the country’s culinary past, serving dinner and drinks.

The Musket Room Ratings and Reviews
The food is simply amazing, whatever you take you will like it. Desserts are their main strength, simply out of this world (and I do not like dessert in general). The staff is very nice and helpful.
Main remark: if you are looking for big portions, this is not your restaurant.
WOULD I RECOMMENT MUSKET ROOM TO A FRIEND??? WITH GREAT GUSTO! What an oasis in a universe of restaurants! This is different and great to share with friends and you have not had the pleasure of experiencing their amazing service since you last dined at Le Bernadine! (or fish courses for that matter!) A lovely intimate setting with a Garden Room in the back, lovely surroundings, and yes, that service! The most professionally friendly,well-timed, informative and accommodating service that we have experienced in New York in years (above exception); two tasting menus and a la carte but do the short or long "story"tasting for an idea of what to have next time (me, the long story next time!);the wine pairing is terrific; we loved the entire experience; thank you all at Musket Room!
Absolutely fantastic. The long story tasting menu was delicious, filling, earthy, woody, and really well put together in theme and blending. Also, the service was fantastic. Our server was supremely knowledgeable about New Zealnd wine and helped us pair our drinks expertly. Overall one of my favorite tasting menus of 2017
Incredible dinner, very friendly staff, we had such a great time!
We tried the short tasting menu with wine pairing, it was simply perfect.
Highly recommend this place to everyone for a chilled, delicious dinner.
This was our second dinner here, the first one was just as great as this one.
We can't wait to go again.
First time here for Xmas hols. The food was very good. The desert was particularly notable. The service was OK, but I do not understand servers who are "full of themselves". How can such add to one's dining experience in a positive way? The use "native New Zealand" names for everything seems pretentious, it is not as if the food is aboriginal is it? Still a very nice dining experience.
Small touches such as a note upon arrival to celebrate our anniversary and a special dessert adds to a delightful experience.
They also accommodated certain dietary restrictions with ease and consideration which did diminish the taste and quality of the food.
Food portions were exceptionally small. Our bill was $500 for three people, $600 with tip. We did have quite a few cocktails, but I was not particularly full when I left. All that said, the service remains to be exceptional and the cocktail menu is divine and never disappoints.
Outstanding. We had the smaller tasting menu: the “Short Story”, six courses consisting of various elements. Every single mouthful brought a new and exciting taste sensation, the flavours were fantastic, clearly the ingredients were fresh and extremely well prepared.
The surroundings and atmosphere was quite informal and very comfortable - quality food in casual surroundings. In keeping with the New Zealand food style, we enjoyed the Kiwi wine on the menu by the glass. Good friendly but professional service.
Due to business and travel commitments we are fortunate to eat regularly in top restaurants worldwide, so can compare this to the best - and it more than measures up. All in all a great dining experience.
I personally liked the casual feel of the restaurant and enjoyed the music. Service was very friendly and not intrusive.
Food was delicious. A lot of rich dishes and we struggled to finish the long story but each plate was original and tasty.
A great way to celebrate my birthday!
The food was very disappointing. The flavors didn’t go well together for a lot of the dishes on the “short story” 6 course tasting menu. The ora king salmon with apple, sorrel and yogurt was bland and unappetizing. The wild striped bass was flavorless and the 62 day aged beef left much to be desired. The sweet potato with orange, chestnut and coffee dessert tasted so awful I couldn’t bring myself to eat more than 2 bites.
However, the service was impeccable and the cocktails were delicious. I wouldn’t dine here again but would stop by for drinks at the bar.
Overall experience at The Musket Room was wonderful. I would absolutely return on another special occasion or date. I've never had the chance to taste New Zealand cuisine before, so the flavors here were often new combinations. We had the short story tasting menu, and I left feeling just satisfied enough with the amount of food given. Service was attentive throughout the meal, not intrusive, and informative. The setup and ambiance of the restaurant was my favorite. It's just dark enough to be a cozy spot for a date, you can have a conversation privately enough without feeling like you have to yell over the volume of other tables, and the spacing of tables is just right so you don't feel crowded.
This was one of our best dining experiences in NYC. We were late by over half hour, and only had about 45 minute to finish the meal as we had to pick up our son from his practice. The restaurant kept our reservation, sat us down immediately and served us their awesome tasting menu so quickly and professionally that we were completely blown away. Food was great, service excellent (very friendly, and natural). We will be back 100%!
