About The Musket Room
The Musket Room brings the spirit of New Zealand and the country’s diverse cuisine to Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood. Chef and owner Matt Lambert, a New Zealand native, created a menu that charts the evolution of New Zealand cuisine, from the country’s Old World traditions and Asian influences to its modern day dedication to local and seasonal offerings.
Inspired by an era in New Zealand when adventure and discovery blossomed, The Musket Room offers a modern approach to the country’s culinary past, serving dinner and drinks.

The Musket Room Ratings and Reviews
Food portions were exceptionally small. Our bill was $500 for three people, $600 with tip. We did have quite a few cocktails, but I was not particularly full when I left. All that said, the service remains to be exceptional and the cocktail menu is divine and never disappoints.
Outstanding. We had the smaller tasting menu: the “Short Story”, six courses consisting of various elements. Every single mouthful brought a new and exciting taste sensation, the flavours were fantastic, clearly the ingredients were fresh and extremely well prepared.
The surroundings and atmosphere was quite informal and very comfortable - quality food in casual surroundings. In keeping with the New Zealand food style, we enjoyed the Kiwi wine on the menu by the glass. Good friendly but professional service.
Due to business and travel commitments we are fortunate to eat regularly in top restaurants worldwide, so can compare this to the best - and it more than measures up. All in all a great dining experience.
I personally liked the casual feel of the restaurant and enjoyed the music. Service was very friendly and not intrusive.
Food was delicious. A lot of rich dishes and we struggled to finish the long story but each plate was original and tasty.
A great way to celebrate my birthday!
The food was very disappointing. The flavors didn’t go well together for a lot of the dishes on the “short story” 6 course tasting menu. The ora king salmon with apple, sorrel and yogurt was bland and unappetizing. The wild striped bass was flavorless and the 62 day aged beef left much to be desired. The sweet potato with orange, chestnut and coffee dessert tasted so awful I couldn’t bring myself to eat more than 2 bites.
However, the service was impeccable and the cocktails were delicious. I wouldn’t dine here again but would stop by for drinks at the bar.
Overall experience at The Musket Room was wonderful. I would absolutely return on another special occasion or date. I've never had the chance to taste New Zealand cuisine before, so the flavors here were often new combinations. We had the short story tasting menu, and I left feeling just satisfied enough with the amount of food given. Service was attentive throughout the meal, not intrusive, and informative. The setup and ambiance of the restaurant was my favorite. It's just dark enough to be a cozy spot for a date, you can have a conversation privately enough without feeling like you have to yell over the volume of other tables, and the spacing of tables is just right so you don't feel crowded.
This was one of our best dining experiences in NYC. We were late by over half hour, and only had about 45 minute to finish the meal as we had to pick up our son from his practice. The restaurant kept our reservation, sat us down immediately and served us their awesome tasting menu so quickly and professionally that we were completely blown away. Food was great, service excellent (very friendly, and natural). We will be back 100%!
I felt that the Person cooking and presenting the dishes was more of an artist then a chef! I wasn't wowed by the food! My husband and I partake in tastings all over Manhattan and this restaurant is on our Do not return list.....not one dish was good enough to come back for! But the atmosphere was quite special and the Staff was very attentive! I caught one of the managers pouring some of our wine for himself which was completely inappropriate....he said he wanted to make sure it was OK since it wasn't a corked bottle but a screw top...well the time to do that is when you open and smell and then have a small taste while at our table! Not halfway into our bottle you go pour yourself a few inches of our wine and down it! WHO DOES THAT???
As a Kiwi visiting New York for the weekend, I was very keen to try this must talked about restaurant. The food was amazing- a taste sensation & portions not too big. Amazing wines & great service. I was meeting a girlfriend that I had not seen for 12mths, so lots to catch up on. Although the restaurant vibe was energetic, we could still have a great '3 hour' conversation. I'll be recommending this to everyone!
We went for my birthday and we're not disappointed. Beautiful restaurant with what I would normally say is outstanding food. I am pregnant right now so my tastes are particularly picky but my husband was completely blown away with every bite. Attentive wait staff, friendly owners, perfect evening.
The services were all prompt and friendly. Every part of the short story tasting menu was delicious. I especially liked the pork rilletes, quail with blackberry, beef with mushroom, and mint ice cream with chocolate hazelnut. I want to go back to try the deer.
one of the worst dining experiences. Way over-priced, esp. the wine list. A retail bottle for 20.00 goes for 72.00 on the list. Outrageous. Size of appetizers is a joke....Wines glasses were lifted off the table before we had a chance to decide to have wine or not...had drinks first before appetizers...and drinks took a verity long time in coming. A most unpleasant experience.
