The tables are too close together and the noise level is too loud for conversation. The food and service are good, but the choices on the menu are very limited. I hadn't eaten there for many years and was disappointed with the overly casual ambiance.
Unique dining spot if you’re visiting Morgan Library. But food was unremarkable. And room is noisy.
Food, wine, service were top notch. Pretty accommodation.
Sound level was over-the-top loud. Not possible to have a pleasant visit over lunch.
Service was very slow. Had to ask my wife what she wanted to drink 5 mins after she placed the order. Then after waiting 15 mins our food order was finally taken. Waited another 20 mins to get our order. Turns out they had written down the order wrong and one of the dishes was wrong. Food that we got was ok but not good enough for the cost.
Museum was great. Next time (assuming another try) we will just do tea in the cafe. Better value.
This is a civilized, grownup restaurant with a small but carefully chosen menu that ranges from vegetarian to fish to chicken to beef and salads. My salmon with roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts was just the right size portion, and every element in the dish was perfectly cooked. The Morgan Library inspires a feeling of elegant gentility, and this atmosphere prevails in the Dining Room. It is so genteel, in fact, that when Steve Martin walked in for lunch, people were aware of his presence but no one broke the unspoken New York tradition of not making a fuss about celebrities. Service was attentive but a bit slow, so it's not a good choice if you're in a hurry. But otherwise it's great, particularly that it's located in a neighborhood with few interesting dining options.
Lunch at the Morgan Dining room is an excellent way to round off a visit to the Morgan Library which has some stunning exhibitions. The food is good, the service excellent and the prices reasonable in very pleasant surroundings.
We had a great afternoon break at the Morgan Cafe before visiting the museum. The food was delicious. Service was fair at the beginning. It seemed like they were short staffed and it took quite a while to get seated and to receive a menu. There seemed to be a quite a few tables of diners who looked a little impatient. However, once we ordered our food the service improved. We ordered the Morgan Tea which I recommend if you are looking for a light afternoon snack.
We came to visit the Morgan Library and thought that dining in the Morgan dining room would be a unique experience. Also, it was very convenient. We order our food ( pasta and a salad) and then we waited and waited and waited! Our waiter seemed totally unconcerned about it. Finally, I asked about our meals. He went to check and came back saying the chef did not like how the pasta turned out and had to re-prepare it. Finally, after waiting almost an hour from the time we originally ordered our food, it came out. My partner did like his pasta but it was obvious that my salad (which had chicken and a slice of bacon with it) had sat there a long time because both were luke-warm and tough; it was certainly not worth the money we paid.
It was delightful as always. Service was amazing and the atmosphere was cozy.
A n unusual lovely setting (the original Morgan dining room) in a fine museum. But food is just fair and prices are pretty high. Service is usually (not always) good but the acoustics are poor, making even grown up quiet company too loud. Good for guests who are impressed with truly lovely setting, particularly if they are not overly concerned about food.
